Abstract

Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture has made a breakthrough in increasing the cattle population to reduce supply inequality through a SIWAB/SIKOMANDAN program. The program focuses on massive artificial insemination and is supported other activities, namely feed aid, animal health, veterinary public health, and community services. The purpose of the study was to determine the conservation of local cattle genetic resources, increasing population, and economic valuation. The research data was collected from Directorate General Livestock and Health (DGLH) for four years. Mathematics models were used to analyze the target and realization the number of frozen semen distribution, acceptor cows, pregnant cows, and calves born. The incremental capital-output ratio (ICOR) model was used to determine the economic valuation. The results show that the program could conserve local cattle, the number of pregnant cows was 8.17 million heads (87.84%), and the number of calves born was 7,040,160 heads or more than 100% of the target for four years as many as 7,040,000 cattle. The average service per-conception (S/C) value was 2.06 or in the normal range. The economic valuation of government investment could generate economic value added marked with an ICOR < 1 or efficient investment.

Abstract

Garut sheep is a livestock commodity that has been designated as an indigenous breed of Garut Regency. This livestock has become part of most of the agricultural communities of Garut Regency. This research was conducted in August - September 2024 and was conducted in Tarogong Kaler District. The number of respondents who became the sample was 61 farmers. The analysis method used is the participation rate which is determined by the number of activities inside the farm and outside the farm. The participation index is the ratio between on-farm and off-farm activities compared to the standard eight-hour workday. Based on the description of the research results, it shows that the participation of fathers, mothers, and children in the Garut family sheep farming business is dominated by the father as the person in charge of the family. Mothers and children have not contributed significantly in helping in the family farm. This condition affects the participation index value of each family member, where the father has a high participation index value compared to the child and mother.

Abstract

The livestock subsector contributes significantly to meeting the need for animal protein and improving the local economy. The study aims to analyze the development of beef, poultry, egg, and milk production, as well as the economic growth of the livestock subsector in West Java. In addition, the study also highlights the number of workers involved and investment in the livestock subsector. This study uses secondary data from the West Java Central Statistics Agency and related agencies. The results of the study show fluctuations in meat and egg production from 2020 to 2023, with poultry and egg production of laying hens experiencing a significant increase. However, the number of workers in this subsector has tended to decline in recent years, in line with the decline in the number of livestock business households. On the other hand, investment in the domestic (PMDN) and foreign (PMA) livestock subsectors has increased significantly, especially in cattle and poultry farming. These results indicate that the livestock subsector in West Java has a strategic role in supporting the local economy, despite the challenges of production fluctuations and a decline in the workforce.

Abstract

The livestock subsector is one of the main sectors in Indonesia's economy, contributing significantly to economic growth. Livestock farming in Central Java Province has experienced the fastest growth compared to other subsectors under the agricultural sector, such as food crops, horticulture, plantations, and agricultural services and hunting. The workforce involved in the livestock subsector also plays an important role in supporting economic growth. Business investment in a subsector is positively correlated with the labor absorbed in that subsector, making it essential for the government to implement strategic efforts and plans to enhance the region's potential for significant investment growth. This study aims to analyze the role of the livestock subsector in the economy of Central Java. The method used includes basic statistical analysis techniques, such as percentages, growth rates or trends, and comparisons. The statistical analysis results are described descriptively to provide explanations for the findings. The production of meat and milk in Central Java Province has shown a significant decrease, which is caused by PMK and LSD diseases as well as the economic impact of the post-COVID-19 pandemic. The population of beef cattle has experienced stable growth, but the population of other livestock such as goats and sheep has declined. The number of workers has also significantly decreased, possibly due to the PMK outbreak and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the value of domestic investment (PMDN) experienced a drastic decrease in 2020, it has significantly increased in 2021 and 2022.

Abstract

The livestock sector is one part of agribusiness that contributes to food supply, in this case animal protein. Production, breeding, processing, and marketing activities are central to the livestock business, including dairy farming. This study aims to identify and analyze internal (strengths and weaknesses) and external (opportunities and challenges) factors affecting livestock farming, as well as recommend alternative strategies and strategy priorities in order to develop dairy farming. Internal and external factors were evaluated using IFE matrix and EFE matrix, then alternative strategies were determined using IE matrix and SWOT analysis. For strategy prioritization. The research location was selected by purposive sampling by looking at data from internal and external aspects of farms located in the Tanjungsari area with the subject of dairy farmers who are members of KSU Tandangsari. The results of the study showed that the total IFE score of 2.95 and EFE of 2.60 showed that this cooperative was in a fairly good position in managing internal strengths and taking advantage of external opportunities. The IE matrix in the study is in cell 5, in this condition a hold and maintain strategy is needed.
