Abstract

This research was conducted among members of the Nagrak Asih Mandiri livestock group in Sukajaya Village, Lembang Subdistrict, West Bandung Regency, West Java Province. This study aims to analyze dairy cattle business income, income from waste utilization, contribution of waste utilization to dairy cattle business income, and the relationship between the number of livestock ownership with dairy cattle business income and income from waste utilization. This research was conducted using a survey method involving 30 respondents of livestock group members. The research location was determined purposively. Income analysis was conducted by calculating revenue and production costs including fixed costs and variable costs. The relationship between the number of livestock ownership with dairy cattle business income and income from waste utilization was analyzed with Pearson product moment correlation. The results showed that the average income of dairy cattle business was Rp. 8,644,176/ST/farmer/year, and the average income from waste utilization was Rp. 863,577/ST/farmer/year. The average contribution of income from waste utilization to dairy cattle business income is 1.86%/ST. The results of the correlation analysis showed a low positive relationship between the number of livestock ownership and income from waste utilization (r=0.324). The number of livestock ownership with the main income of dairy cattle farming is moderately related (r=0.547).

Abstract

Feed costs present a challenge in the process of raising broiler chickens in closed house systems, as feed expenses account for 70% of the total production costs. Therefore, strategies need to be developed to minimize feed costs while maintaining chicken performance. One of the strategies that can be applied is restricted feeding. In this study, the effect of feed restriction on final weight, FCR, and Income Over Feed Cost (IOFC) was analyzed. The study was conducted by observing and recording data from broiler farming with ad libitum feeding and restricted feeding treatments, each over 14 periods. The observed parameters were final weight, FCR, and IOFC, and the data were processed using T-tests in SPSS. The results showed that feed restriction treatment did not have a significant effect on final weight, FCR, or Income Over Feed Cost. However, when viewed from the data averages, feed restriction treatment resulted in lower body weight, lower FCR, and higher IOFC.

Abstract

ABSTRACT.  Livestock feed plays an important role in raising dairy cows. Good feed quality can improve the performance of milk production. In the situation of feed scarcity, dairy farmers provide feed with low nutritional value because of the difficulty in getting quality feed. Therefore, this study aims to explore the habits of dairy farmers in feeding their dairy cows and the strategies of dairy farmers to deal with feed scarcity. This research was conducted in Pangalengan district, from 2 to 30 September 2023 with 100 respondent farmers selected from 2 farmer groups (Cipanas and Los Cimaung). The study uses a mixed method (quantitative and qualitative methods) to find several findings related to feed availability in the context of feed scarcity. Interviews and focus group discussions are used to collect data and information from respondents and key persons in the cooperative (KPBS). The results showed that dairy farmers sought and found forages in their gardens, backyards, open access land (roadside and undeveloped plots), and others. Meanwhile, the cooperative guarantees the supply of concentrates for farmers in all seasons. The situation will be different in the dry season due to feed scarcity, especially for forages. Farmers have to spend money to buy forageswith or without collective action. The results also found that there were four strategies to anticipate forages scarcity, such as (1) forages preservation using silage technology, (2) reduction of forages and increasing concentrate, (3) utilization of agricultural waste, and (4) mixed strategies using strategies 2 and 3.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the level of sustainability of duck farming in Indramayu District by considering environmental, economic and social impacts. In addition, this study also focuses on identifying and understanding the factors that hinder the sustainability of the business, assessing the influence of technology use and institutional support, and knowing the strategic steps that can be taken to improve the sustainability of duck farming. The research method used is quantitative method. The research was conducted in Sliyeg and Sindang sub-districts, in January to February, 2025, involving 96 participating respondents that are randomly selected. The analysis method used in this study is Multidimensional Scaling (MDS), which is applied to determine the sustainability status of duck farming. The results research showed that the level of sustainability of duck farming is still lacking, with varying sustainability index values in each dimension. Factors such as low technology adoption, financial constraints and limited access to training are the main challenges that need to be overcome. Institutional support and the application of modern technology are expected to improve production efficiency and business sustainability. The resulting strategic recommendations include enhancing farmers' access to training on modern duck farming practices, providing subsidized loans for infrastructure improvement, and facilitating partnerships with feed suppliers. For example, implementing regular government-led training programs in each sub-district could increase awareness and adoption of efficient feeding systems, while financial assistance can help farmers build better housing facilities.

Abstract

Tandangsari Multipurpose Cooperative (KSU) is the only dairy cooperative in Sumedang Regency. The cooperative is a forum for dairy farmers to distribute their milk production. Along with the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD), milk production has decreased at the farm level. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze milk productivity and cooperative financial performance in 2021 (before FMD) and 2022 (during FMD). The analysis method of this research consists of two, namely the financial performance analysis method using the Regulation of the Deputy for Supervision of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (KUKM) of the Republic of Indonesia Number 06/Per/Dep.6/IV/2016 and the key performance index (KPI). The results of this study indicate that the performance of milk production has decreased by 24.75% in 2022 where in that year the FMD outbreak has lasted for eight months.  The financial performance of KSU Tandangsari has a KPI value before and during FMD of 57% and 63%, respectively. Both values are still included in the sufficient category. Even this cooperative was able to improve its KPI during the FMD outbreak.

Abstract

Broiler chickens are one of the livestock commodities that have an important role in fulfilling people's animal protein needs. However, the growth of the broiler farming industry is also followed by several significant negative impacts on the environment, local economy, and public health. This study aims to (1) analyze the environmental impacts of broiler farming, (2) determine community perceptions of the environmental impacts of broiler farming, and (3) analyze the sustainability and sensitive attributes of broiler farming. This study used survey methods, interviews, and secondary data analysis to collect information about the impacts of broiler farming in Pasini Farm. The research respondents were determined by purposive sampling method with the criteria of living around the farm environment within a 2 km radius and 10 informants from Jelat Ciamis Village were selected. Data analysis used in this study was problem tree analysis and descriptive percentage. The results showed that the existence of Pasini Farm broiler farms has made a positive contribution to the local economy, by creating jobs and increasing the income of local farmers and in social contributions helping to develop social communities, infrastructure and provision of animal protein. However, the increase in broiler production has also presented environmental challenges such as water and air pollution and the health problems of the surrounding community.

Abstract

Dairy cooperatives are a forum for dairy farmers to distribute their fresh milk production. If an extraordinary event occurs in dairy farmers, it can affect the performance of dairy cooperatives, such as an outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD). The aim of this study was to analyze the cooperative's milk production performance and the cooperative's financial performance before and during hoof and mouth disease. The analytical method used is basic statistics to see the performance of milk production, while the financial performance analysis uses the Regulation of the Deputy for Supervision of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (KUKM) of the Republic of Indonesia Number 06/Per/Dep.6/IV/2016 and the key performance index (KPIs). The research results showed that there was a 27% decrease in milk production during the foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak which was caused by the large number of deaths of productive dairy cows. The financial performance of KPS Bogor has a KPIs value before PMK of 73.21 and during FMD of 67.50 or both of these values are in the Fair category. However, it was seen that there was a decline in the value of financial performance before and during the FMD.
