Abstract

The new challenges for first-year students potentially to influence their academic achievement. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of students and families, parental support, academic emotions, and learning strategies and their effects on the academic achievement of first-year students. Determination of research location by purposive at Institut Pertanian Bogor. An example of this study is a total of 110 students of the Program Pendidikan Kompetensi Umum (PPKU) selected by simple random sampling. The results found that parental support related to emotional and instrumental aspects, positive and negative academic emotions were significantly correlated with the use of learning strategies. The dimension of learning strategy that is time and environment management and effort learning correlated on academic achievement.

Abstract

Academic achievement is affected by external and internal factors. This study generally aims to examine the influence of family characteristics (per capita income and parental education), individual characteristics (age and gender), cognitive intelligence, and self-regulated learning toward academic achievement in adolescents. A total of 91 samples (Mage=13.9 years) with the largest percentage of the respondents were women were selected from two different junior high schools in Bogor area. Cognitive intelligence, self-regulated learning, and academic achievement were measured using Riley Inventory Basic of Learning Skills (RIBLS), Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSQL), and student academic record, respectively. The partial regression analysis showed there was a negative effect of mother’s education on self-regulated learning. Gender was found to positively predicted cognitive intelligence. The regression analysis also showed that parental education and cognitive intelligence positively predicted adolescent academic achievement. Per capita income, gender, and self-regulated learning showed no significant effects on academic achievement.

Abstract

Pre-marital sexual behavior in adolescents is influenced by personal, family, and environmental factors, including peer groups. This study aims to analyze the influence of adolescent-parental attachment, self-control, and the role of peers on the pre-marital sexual behavior of high school/vocational high school adolescents. This explanatory research was conducted purposively at SMA and SMK in Bogor city. Data collection was carried out voluntarily using a questionnaire via google form in January 2022. Respondents in this study were 245 teenagers who had unmarried criteria and still had intact parents. The results showed that the majority of adolescent pre-marital sexual behavior was in the "never" category (86.7%), only 1.6% were included in the "always" category. Furthermore, most adolescents have moderate self-control (48.6%), almost half (44.9%) have an attachment to their father in the "moderate" category, more than half of adolescent-mother attachments are in the "good" category (50.6%), while almost half of in the "very good" category in positive peer roles (47.8%). In addition, it was revealed that there was a negative influence between the role of peers and the tendency of pre-marital sexual behavior.

Abstract

Adolescence brings about major changes that are intertwined in all domains of development, not only in the physical dimension but also in social-emotional development. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the social-emotional development of children and adolescents. This study used a systematic literature review method. The analysis used was the Preferred Reporting Item for Systematic Review and Meta-Analytic (PRISMA) method. After scanning titles, abstracts and inclusion criteria, 575 journals were analyzed. Some findings were excluded because they did not meet the criteria, so the number of journals included in the discussion totaled 38 articles. The results showed that factors influencing socio-emotional development were grouped into six factors, namely socio-economic characteristics, mother-child interactions, risky behavior and device use, parental psychological conditions, attachment and parenting, and school learning programs. Suggestions that can be given are improving the psychological well-being of mothers, maintaining and increasing positive interactions between mothers and adolescents, parents have attachment and conduct positive parenting, adolescents have the ability to recognize and manage emotions.

Abstract

The technological advancements of the 21st century have created a shift in learning experiences for children, exposing them to various digital devices from an early age. One of the keys to a prosperous future for children is knowing the impact of screen time on children's well-being. This systematic literature review aims to provide an overview of the influence of screen time on early childhood well-being from existing empirical evidence. Using the PRISMA principles, this literature review identified 23 relevant studies from scopus indexed articles (Q1-Q4). The research subjects were children and mothers. The analysis grouped themes and displayed the interconnectedness of emerging themes using VosViewer software. The results of the systematic literature review showed that generally screen time has a negative impact on early childhood well-being in the physical and psychosocial dimensions. The impact of screen time on the cognitive dimension is negative and positive. The negative impact of screen time on the cognitive dimension of early childhood well-being includes delays in early childhood language development. Meanwhile, the positive impact of screen time on the cognitive dimension of early childhood well-being is that the media and tools in learning become more interesting. The results of this literature review have implications for the importance of providing insight to various stakeholders about the impact of screen time on early childhood well-being in various conditions.

Abstract

The November 2022 earthquake in Cianjur had both adverse and beneficial psychological effects, with children being among the most susceptible groups. This aims the factors influencing the resilience of child disaster survivors, focusing on paternal factors such as educational background, income, and the children's gender. The study employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. Participants were 196 students from grades 4 to 6 residing in Cijedil Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency. The sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling, and Spearman's correlation was applied to analyze the results. The findings revealed a significant positive relationship between fathers' education and income and the resilience of child earthquake survivors in Cianjur, with the father's education emerging as the most influential factor. While girls demonstrated a higher average resilience score compared to boys, the difference was not statistically significant. This research contributes to understanding children's resilience after disasters and offers insights to strengthen children's resilience against the psychological impact of such events. The research proposes practical recommendations for improving child resilience in disaster-prone areas like Cianjur, focusing on strengthening economic support for families, promoting parental education, enhancing access to education and mental health services, and developing community-based resilience programs.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that can disrupt children's growth and development, one of which is social-emotional development. This research generally aims to analyze the influence of parenting style and social-emotional stimulation on children's social-emotional development. The research design uses explanatory survey methods. The research involved 41 stunting toddlers and 41 non-stunting toddlers aged 2-3 years and their mothers as main caregivers who were selected purposively and lived in Cibodas Village, Rumpin District, Bogor Regency, West Java on July 2023. Data were processed and analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2016 software and IBM Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Statistics 26 software. The results show that stunting toddlers are more commonly found in boys, families with low-educated mothers and fathers, and low incomes. Even so, in this study no significant different test results were found. The results of the correlation test show that age of father and mother is significantly positively related to authoritative parenting style. It can be interpreted that as father and mother get older, the authoritative parenting style is possibly applied more frequently. The results of the regression test show that authoritative parenting styles and social-emotional stimulation have a significant positive effect on social-emotional development. The application of good authoritative parenting style and social-emotional stimulation will improve social-emotional development in both stunting and non-stunting children.
