Abstract

This comprehensive case study investigates the multifaceted challenges faced by English for Specific Purposes (ESP) lecturers in the context of pedagogical instruction at STAIN Madina, Indonesia. ESP instruction is crucial for equipping students with specialized language skills tailored to their future careers. However, this research reveals various challenges ESP lecturers encounter, including curriculum design complexities, pedagogical strategy adaptations, resource limitations, diverse student backgrounds, and assessment intricacies. These challenges impact the quality of ESP instruction, with implications for student preparedness in religious studies and beyond. The significance of this study lies in its potential to enhance the overall quality of ESP education at STAIN Madina and similar institutions in Indonesia and globally. Practical recommendations are provided for addressing these challenges, such as curriculum updates, innovative teaching strategies, improved resources, tailored support for diverse student backgrounds, and alternative assessment methods. By understanding and mitigating these challenges, institutions can better prepare students for specialized careers, fostering effective communication in various professional domains

Abstract

Blended learning (BL) is a demand for curriculum innovation. The need of BL for working students is avoidable. This research investigates the respond of the Recognition of Past Learning (RPL) program students of factor that influence students toward blended learning adoption in higher education. This research employed quantitative method with survey design. The subjects of the research were 25 of RPL students. To collect the data, the researcher used questionnaires with Likert scale. The data analysis was descriptive statistics. Results showed that 84% RPL students preferred BL setting. The students also manifested a positive respond of each factors of the blended learning adoption in their campus. Thus, positive support factors, students’ attitude, students’ perspective, and learning effectiveness regarding blended learning adoption has positive contribution to innovate curriculum development especially for RPL class.Keywords: blended learning, curriculum, innovation, respond

Abstract

Teacher beliefs are about how teachers conceptualize their work in classroom. Based on the theories, teacher beliefs is an important element in improving the quality of educational  practice.  Therefore,  the  purposes  of  this  study  are  to describe  the  teachers‟  beliefs  and  to  investigate  how  the  teachers “practice of teaching grammar in classroom. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were two English teachers who were experienced in teaching English at  SMPN 1 Harau. The instruments used are interview, field notes, and documents. The technique of data analyses used the Mile and Huberman model. Based on the result of the study the data show that teachers beliefs that grammar is important because it effects on how students make the correct sentence. There are five factors that support the beliefs, lesson plan, teaching method, teaching procedure, sources of teaching materials, the teachers and students roles. However, in teaching practices not those factors are applied because the teachers had to a lot of time to manage the classroom.
