Abstract

Hydroxyapatite (HAp, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) is the most stable form of calcium phosphate and widely used in various medical applications, mainly in orthopedics and dentistry due to its close similarities with the inorganic mineral component of bone and teeth. This study aims to synthesize hydroxyapatite from duck eggshell using the precipitation method. The duck eggshell was calcined, hydrated (slaking) and underwent carbonation to form Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC).  Afterwards, (NH4)2HPO4 was added to produce HAp by varying the molar ratio of Ca/P by 1.67, 1.77 and 1.87 and stirring speed by 200, 250, 300rpm under basic condition (pH 10 – 11). The best results were obtained at a molar ratio of 1.77 with 200rpm stirring speed. Furthermore, the X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that its crystals were hexagonal with sizes of 23.062nm, in the absence of other crystalline phases. Therefore, the hydroxyapatite was obtained in the agglomerates form with a specific surface area of ??55.929m2/g.

Abstract

Salah satu tanaman penghasil minyak atsiri dan telah dibudidayakan di Desa Siabu, Kecamatan Salo, Kabupaten Kampar, Provinsi Riau adalah tanaman serai wangi. Petani serai wangi melakukan penyulingan langsung untuk dapat menghasilkan minyak atsiri yang telah dijalankan sekitar dua tahun. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan hasil inovasi dalam bentuk teknologi tepat guna (TTG) alat penyulingan minyak serai wangi. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian adalah sebagai berikut: 1. Memantau sistem kerja alat penyulingan sehingga dihasilkan produksi minyak serai wangi yang baik; 2. Menangani manajemen hasil produksi minyak serai wangi dari alat penyulingan dan 3. Mengevaluasi kualitas minyak serai wangi yang dihasilkan sehingga dapat menembus pasar. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan dengan melakukan sosialisasi teknik penyulingan, distilasi minyak atsiri dari serai wangi, dan pengujian karakteristik minyak atsiri dari serai wangi. Berdasarkan hasil uji dan pengamatan, minyak atsiri yang dihasilkan memiliki karakteristik fisik dan kimia yang telah sesuai dengan yang dipersyaratkan. Karakteristik minyak atsiri serai wangi menghasilkan minyak atsiri dengan berat jenis 0,86 mg/L, viscositas pada suhu 45oC sebesar 2,41x10-6 N.S/ m2, angka asam lemak bebas (ALB) 1,1% dan kadar air 3,1%.

Abstract

Doughnuts are one of the most popular sweet foods for people of all ages around the world. Although made from simple ingredients such as flour, sugar, eggs, yeast, milk powder, salt, water, and margarine, however producing doughnuts requires special techniques to produce good-quality doughnuts. It needs more energy, even physically and electrical equipment. A workshop on doughnut production with autolyze method for Dharma Women Association, Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau, was conducted to increase the knowledge and skills of members of the organization in making healthy dishes for the family. In this workshop, doughnuts were made using the autolysis method, which is mixing bread flour with water and then keeping the dough until gluten was formed. The formation of gluten is one indicator of the formation of smooth, soft, and elastic dough. The workshop results showed high interest among the Dharma Women Association members in making doughnuts with this alternative method.

Abstract

Brick is a building material that is often used for residential walls. The bricks in this study were bricks with the addition of palm frond charcoal in the manufacturing process. The aims of this study were (1) to determine the effect of adding palm stem charcoal on the manufacture of red bricks in terms of compressive strength, water absorption (Suction rate) and apparent density (apparent density). (2) Comparing the test results with the SNI 15-2094-2000 standard. The manufacture of experimental bricks begins with adding clay with pulverized palm frond charcoal in a ratio of 100:0, 95:5, 90:10, 85:15 and 80:20, then molded, dried, burned and tested for new mechanical properties. brick. In this study, the compressive strength of bricks that enter class 100 is a ratio of 100:0 and 95:5 namely 11.75 Mpa and 10.10 Mpa, then bricks grade 50 is a ratio of 90:10 and 85:15 which is 8.08 Mpa and 6.27 Mpa. The water absorption capacity of bricks that meet the requirements of SNI 15-2094-2000 is a ratio of 100:0 and 95:5, namely 18.65% and 19.74%. The apparent density of bricks that meet the requirements of SNI 15-2094-2000 are the ratios of 100:0, 95:5, 90:10 and 85:15, which are 1.63 g/cm3, 1.54 g/cm3, 1,37 g/cm3 and 1.24 g/cm3. Bricks that meet the standards and are recommended as masonry bricks are bricks with a ratio of 95:5.

Abstract

Sourdough bread is known to have health benefits due to its fermentation process using lactic acid and wild yeast. It can improve the taste, texture, shelf life, and nutritional content of bread as a functional food. In this study, sourdough was made from fermented papaya with varying fermentation times of 4, 5, and 6 days. The substrate was fed five times to strengthen the sourdough, resulting in a robust enough mixture to develop the dough. The resulting sourdough was used to create sourdough bread with a 30% sourdough concentration. The fermentation time impacted the quality of the sourdough, with results showing that sourdough became increasingly active as fermentation time progressed. The best sourdough was obtained from a six-day fermentation period, with a pH of 3.60 and a total plate count of 1.70 × 104 CFU/ml. The best donuts were produced using the sourdough that had been fermented for six days, with an almost perfect score of 3.9 out of 4 for all aspects, including color, aroma, taste, and texture. Using this sourdough resulted in a significantly longer shelf life; no mold appeared until the eighth day of storage at room temperature. The moisture content of the donuts was measured at 4.57%. This study demonstrates the potential benefits of using sourdough made from fermented papaya to improve the quality and shelf life of sourdough bread while also providing potential health benefits.

Abstract

Pandemi COVID-19 menyisakan ketidakstabilan ekonomi pada masyarakat. Harga bahan kebutuhan pokok yang masih tinggi, membuat para ibu rumah tangga harus berpikir keras untuk mengelola keuangan keluarga. Hal ini dialami oleh beberapa ibu rumah tangga di lingkungan Perumahan Mutiara Ayu 8 Desa Kualu Kecamatan Tambang Kabupaten Kampar. Kegiatan ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan para ibu rumah tangga dalam manajemen keuangan keluarga dan memberikan motivasi bisnis untuk menambah pendapatan keluarga. Metode yang dilakukan adalah observasi lapangan, melaksanakan penyuluhan tentang manajemen keuangan dan motivasi bisnis, dan evaluasi hasil kegiatan terhadap 20 orang ibu rumah tangga. Manajemen keuangan keluarga yang efektif dapat dilakukan dengan cara membedakan kebutuhan dengan keinginan, menyusun daftar pengeluaran prioritas per bulan, alokasikan dana untuk tabungan dan dana darurat, dan minimalisir hutang. Untuk menambah pendapatan keluarga, ibu rumah tangga dapat melakukan bisnis sendiri. Hal-hal yang perlu dipersiapkan untuk memulai bisnis adalah adanya dukungan keluarga, sesuaikan dengan kemampuan, dapat memisahkan antara keluarga dan bisnis, menyusun target, dan perluas jaringan. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan tentang manajemen keuangan dan bisnis pada para peserta.

Abstract

The removal efficiency of adsorption is very dependent on the type of adsorbent. The use of hydroxyapatite as an adsorbent for synthetic dyes still needs to be developed. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of dyes and adsorbent mass on removal efficiency, and the best conditions in the adsorption process using of hydroxyapatite. Analysis was conducted by spectrophotometric and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) methods. The results showed that the mass of the adsorbent affects the removal efficiency of dyes. The best removal efficiency is at 0.5 g adsorbent mass for each dye. Adsorption capacity for methylene blue at 2 minutes was 1.96 mg/g with 26,12% of removal efficiency. Adsorption capacity for methyl red at 5 minutes was 6.68 mg/g with 89% of removal efficiency. Dye adsorption was not found during adsorption process of methyl orange. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis showed that there was no adsorption of azo group on all spectra, indicated that there was not chemical reaction between the adsorbent and the adsorbate during the adsorption process.Key Words: adsorption, hydroxyapatite, methyl orange, methyl red, methylene blue.

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) is a calcium phosphate compound that has been widely used as bone implant material due to its chemical composition which is identical with the natural bone. The aims of this study are to synthesize, characterize and determine the kinetic reactions of the synthesized hydroxyapatite from Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) coral reefs through the precipitation method. Synthesis of hydroxyapatite used the variation temperatures of 30oC; 40oC; 50oC; 60oC with the calcium to phosphate (Ca/P) ratio of 1,67 at pH 9 and 11. The reactants were stirred for 24 hours, where the samples were taken every 10 minutes at first hour to determine the rate of kinetic and aged for 24 hours. Concentration of Ca in filtrate was analysed by using AAS method. The synthesized hydroxyapatite was characterized by XRD and obtained a hexagonal crystalline structure with size in range of 20 - 25 nm. The kinetic of the synthesized hydroxyapatite followed the pseudo second order equation with the values of reaction rate constants (k) at pH 9 were 0,003 min-1; 0,0055 min-1; 0,0044 min-1; 0,0057 min-1; while for pH 11 were 0,0033 min-1; 0,0069 min-1; 0,0079 min-1; 0,0087min-1.Keywords: coral reefs, hydroxyapatite, PCC, precipitation, reaction kinetics

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite is a bioceramic acid which is widely used as a bone and tooth graft, catalyst and adsorbent. Hydroxyapatite is a calcium phosphate compound that can be synthesized from natural ingredients with calcium content such as coral reefs. Coral reefs are marine biota with a CaCO3 content of 98.8%. This study aims to synthesize hydroxyapatite through the formation of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) from coral reefs. The research procedure begins with the calcination process of coral reefs to form CaO which is then made into PCC using the carbonation method. PCC as a source of calcium is synthesized into hydroxyapatite using the precipitation process with variations in pH (9 and 11) and sintering temperature (without sintering, 400oC, 500oC, 600oC). The synthesized hydroxyapatite was analyzed by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results of the XRD analysis showed the formation of hydroxyapatite compounds from the angle 2θ which corresponds to the data (ICDD 01-072-1243). Hydroxyapatite synthesized at pH 11 and sintering temperature of 600oC gave the best results with hexagonal crystal structure, the value of the degree of crystallinity was 89,632 and the crystal size was 18,0623. Abstract

Daging burung puyuh merupakan sumber protein hewani yang dibutuhkan oleh manusia. Harganya yang relatif murah dapat menjadi alternatif sumber gizi bagi masyarakat. Daging burung puyuh yang tipis dan alot menyebabkan sumber protein ini kurang diminati di masyarakat. Penyuluhan dan pelatihan tentang pengolahan burung puyuh presto bagi msyarakat Desa Batu Belah dilakukan agar masyarakat dapat mengkonsumsi daging puyuh dengan nikmat tanpa rasa alot. Proses pengolahan dilakukan dengan memasak daging burung puyuh yang telah dilengkapi dengan bumbu ungkep dalam panci presto selama 20 menit. Selanjutnya setelah uap panas daging burung puyuh presto tidak ada lagi, daging puyuh digoreng dan dapat dimakan. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian ini dapat dicapai dengan baik berdasarkan ketertarikan masyarakat terhadap topik pengolahan burung puyuh presto sebesar 92% peserta dan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan 75% peserta yang belum mengetahui.
