Abstract

The popularity of herbal cosmetics has been growing due to their effectiveness and ability to reduce the adverse effects associated with the use of synthetic goods. Plants contain phytochemicals like alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, sterols, triterpenoids, and tannins, which give them many health benefits, such as antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory effects, UV protection, skin regeneration, depigmentation, anti-dandruff properties, and more. Plants like tomatoes and Aloe vera contain phytochemicals that can be used in cosmetics. We want to give you all the information you need about how tomatoes and Aloe vera might be used in cosmetics. This includes what chemicals they contain, how they work biologically, and how to make cosmetics with them. This article review employs online literature studies as its methodology. The research data comprises articles sourced from reputable journal platforms, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, and Research Gate. These articles were selected from publications spanning the period from 2013 to 2023. The research that has already been done supports the idea that both tomatoes and Aloe vera contain many chemicals that could be used in cosmetic treatments.

Abstract

Antioxidant plays an important role in the body’s defense against various diseases, because antioxidant compounds were able to prevent bad effects caused by free radicals. Phenolic and flavonoids compound are known as natural antioxidant from plants. Binahong (Anredera cordifolia) is known contain phenolic and flavonoid. The aim of this research was to determine total phenolics, flavonoids content and also antioxidant activity from extract binahong using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. The results showed that binahong ethanol extract had total phenolic 223.76 mg GAE/g and flavonoid content of 0.483 mg RE/g. Meanwhile, for antioxidant activity, IC50 for ethanol extract, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction were 717.27; 586.28; dan 425.81 ppm respectively. Binahong extracts and fractions are included in the weak antioxidant category.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes melitus merupakan penyakit yang disebut sebagai mother of illness, karena dapat menyebabkan komplikasi dalam tubuh. Pemeriksaan kadar glukosa darah merupakan langkah awal untuk mendeteksi diabetes. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran kadar glukosa darah sewaktu dan tingkat pengetahuan penyakit diabetes melitus pada masyarakat Desa Jingkang Kecamatan Tanjung Medar Kabupaten Sumedang. Metode: Metode pengabdian meliputi pemberian materi penyuluhan, pemeriksaan tekanan darah, kadar glukosa sewaktu, dan pengisian kuesioner tingkat pengetahuan mengenai  diabetes melitus. Hasil: Dari kegiatan pengabdian ini didapatkan hasil bahwa penderita diabetes yang terdeteksi cukup rendah yaitu sebesar 6,52% atau sebanyak 3 orang dari 46 orang peserta yang mengikuti kegiatan. Tingkat pengetahuan masyarakat Desa Jingkang mengenai diabetes melitus juga baik, sejalan dengan rendahnya penderita diabetes yang terdeteksi. Kesimpulan: Masyarakat Desa Jingkang memiliki tingkat pengetahuan yang baik terhadap penyakit diabetes melitus, hal ini sejalan dengan rendahnya tingkat penderita pasien diabetes yang terdeteksi pada kegiatan pengabdian ini. Adanya aktivitas fisik yang tinggi dan pemenuhan gizi yang seimbang dapat mengurangi kadar glukosa darah dan mengurangi resiko terjadinya penyakit diabetes melitus
