Abstract

Workers in the tourism sector automatically lose their jobs due to restrictions on mobility and a ban on gatherings during the pandemic. The pandemic has caused mental health problems due to the economic breakdown, distance from social life and loss due to the death of family members. This qualitative study aims to analyze perceptions and the perceived health impacts of COVID-19 pandemic and on tourism workers in Yogyakarta. The approach used is a case study, conducted in June-September 2021. Female and male informants were involved to see if there were differences in the gender perspective. Survivors and non-survivors were involved to see differences in perceptions. The number of informants consists of 8 people, using the principles of adequacy and suitability. In-depth interviews were conducted online (phone whats app and google meet). Data were analyzed using content analysis method. The results of the study found that the economic impact was felt equally by male and female workers. Gender differences do not affect the decision of superiors when reducing employees and reducing working hours. There is no psychological pressure due to the inequalities of communication between men and women in financial management. There are no complaints of family nutritional insecurity in women because they still get enough nutrition and food, and there is also no gender-based violence at home or at work. The psychological and social impacts were not evident for women, but were found in male informants who were shown to be reluctant to socialize because they were ashamed of losing their jobs. This research is expected to contribute to gender-based policies for handling pandemics and workers in the non-formal tourism sector.

Abstract

Why don't online shop workers enroll in BPJS health insurance? a case study from the City of YogyakartaPurposeThis study aimed to explore why an informal sector group has not decided to become a part of BPJS health by identifying knowledge or health insurance literacy.MethodThis research was a qualitative study with a phenomenology approach. Determination of informants was used by snowball sampling technique. Data collection was conducted with in-depth interviews with 15 people from an online entrepreneurs group who live around the city of Yogyakarta. Data were identified with inductive thematic analysis related to health insurance literacy to determine any relationship pattern of research variables.ResultsThe majority of informants have knowledge health insurance as a health care program used to seek treatment when sick. Specifically, informants have difficulties in understanding and explaining the basic terms about BPJS health insurance such as membership type, premium, benefits package, services procedure, the way of registration. The main determinant is caused by personal factors of informants themselves who are not seeking information about BPJS health because busy with works, still young, unmarried, and get ill rarely. Another factor is informants more often rely on getting insurance information from friends or family, while information from the Government and BPJS organization itself is very rare.ConclusionLow health insurance literacy is the main cause why informants decide not to be participants in BPJS health insurance. So it’s necessary to educate people about the BPJS health insurance both from the government, BPJS organization, and especially health providers in health facilities.

Abstract

Two hundred and twenty-two public health centers have organized Basic Occupational Health and Safety (BOHS) in Yogyakarta province in 2022. Based on previous research, most of the implementation of the BOHS of community health centers is not yet running and specific. One of the BOHS for tourism sector workers is the “Kasongan Sehat”, in the Kasongan Tourism Village. This qualitative research aims to analyze the implementation of the BOHS in the “Kasongan Sehat”. The research subjects were occupational health trainers at the Community Health Center level, cadres, pottery industry workers in Kasongan, and hamlets selected using purposive sampling. In-depth interview and observation data collection techniques. The analysis uses the content analysis method. Research findings; The basis for administering the BOHS is Bantul Regent's regulation number 42 of 2015. This post has implemented an integrated BOHS by Minister of Health Regulation number 100 of 2015, which can be seen from the combination of their activities and management. Activities have been running regularly; including measuring blood pressure, body weight, first aid, and providing referrals to community health centers. The Community Health Center has distributed facilities and infrastructure and held first aid training for treating wounds for cadres. In general, occupational health service activities by cadres at the “Kasongan Sehat” have not been implemented comprehensively, due to a lack of training on OHS and the BOHS has just been revitalized after being stagnant after the 2006 Yogya earthquake. Specific training and guidance on BOHS are needed for supervisors as well as cadres.

Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a critical health issue, particularly in developing countries with low socio-economic conditions. The World Health Organization (WHO) reveals that more than 80% of 2.5 million babies born worldwide each year experience deaths due to LBW. Indonesia falls into the category of countries with a significant incidence of LBW in the Southeast Asian region. In 2019, the highest Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in Indonesia was linked to LBW cases. This research adopts a quantitative approach with an observational analytic design, focusing on the analysis of relationships between variables. The research method used is a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta in June 2023. The sampling method applied is non-probability sampling with purposive sampling variations. The research findings indicate a significant relationship between the age of mothers during childbirth and the incidence of LBW (p-value = 0.000). Rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H1) depict a strong association between the age of mothers during childbirth and LBW incidents. The results of the Odds Ratio (OR) analysis show a figure of 10.427. Overall, this research concludes that a significant relationship exists between the age of mothers during childbirth and the occurrence of LBW. These findings highlight the potential impact of maternal age during childbirth on the risk of LBW in newborns.     This is an open access article under the CC–BY-SA license.
