Abstract

The red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum Herbst (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), is a secondary and major pest in flour processing and storage areas. T. castaneum has a wide host range such as flours made from other foods, including corn, rice, wheat, sorghum, and biscuits. The level of susceptibility of type flour corn and rice to T. castaneum infestation depends on varieties. The objective of this study was to evaluate the classification susceptibility of flour rice and corn to infestation T. castaneum during storage. The research was carried out in a form of an experimental laboratory that used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with treatments type flour corn and rice, each treatment was repeated four times. The data obtained were analyzed using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), the results data were significantly different (P <0.05) followed by the Duncan test. Measurement strength relationship between index susceptibility with the number of F1 and median development time was determined by correlation analysis. The results showed that classification susceptibility flour rice was moderate to susceptible, while flour corn was classified as moderate to susceptible and susceptible to very susceptible. The susceptibility of two types flour was determined by the number of F1 and median development time of T. castaneum. Information classification susceptibility flour rice and corn against T. castaneum can help detect damage and lose weight of flour during storage.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Sorghum is a food crop commodity that has important potential as a source of food and renewable energy for food and energy independence during the COVID-19 pandemic. Community service activities regarding processing sorghum into food and energy are very important in dealing with food dependence on rice and fuel energy from crude oil. Through extension activities and training on sorghum processing, it is hoped that it can increase public knowledge about sorghum and its processing. The method used is counseling and training on sorghum processing to the community. Extension and training activities for processing sorghum into alternative food and renewable energy in order to increase community knowledge in Blang Nibong Village, Samudera District, North Aceh Regency have been carried out and can be well received by the community. The community is very enthusiastic about participating in the service activities. The community has knowledge of the processing of sorghum into sorghum flour as an ingredient for processed food products such as steamed brownies, krispi tofu spices, cakes, and nagasari. Partners also have knowledge about other benefits of sorghum, namely as a renewable energy source. Sorghum stalks are known to contain bioethanol as fuel. Programs like this are very important to carry out, especially for people living in rural areas that have the potential for developing sorghum areas so that the program will be sustainable.

Abstract

Plasma nutfah padi lokal memiliki sifat keunggulan yang spesifik seperti aroma wangi, pulen, dan tahan terhadap hama. Penelitian tentang ketahanan beras terhadap Sitophilus oryzae dapat dilakukan dengan pengujian kerentanan beras dari berbagai aksesi padi lokal. Beras lokal Aceh belum teridentifikasi memiliki sifat fisik dan kimia sebagai sumber ketahanan terhadap infestasi S. oryzae. Penelitian bertujuan menentukan klasifikasi kerentanan beras dari plasma nutfah padi lokal Aceh terhadap hama S. oryzae selama penyimpanan. Beras lokal Aceh antara lain Sigudang, Segaru, Lilin, Malaya, Aweuh, Cantik Lembayan, Beras Merah, Siwe, Surya, Sitinggong, Sirangkoh, dan Sigupai. Evaluasi kerentanan beras menggunakan metode tanpa pilihan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan beras lokal Aceh memiliki tingkat kerentanan terhadap S. oryzae yang berbeda-beda. Beras Malaya tergolong moderat, sedangkan beras Sigudang, Segaru, Lilin, Cantik Lembayan, Sirangkoh Mirah, dan Awueh tergolong moderat sampai rentan. Beras Merah, Siwe, Surya, Sigupai, dan Sitinggong tergolong dalam katagori rentan terhadap serangan hama S. oryzae selama penyimpanan beras. Kerentanan beras lokal Aceh dipengaruhi kandungan kimia beras seperti kadar air, lemak, protein, dan serat.

Abstract

The rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae L. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is a major pest and causes damage to rice in storage. This study aimed to study the dimensional characters and determine the susceptibility of rice from germplasm paddy local in Dairi Regency, North Sumatra Province, against S. oryzae during storage. The types of local rice are Sibatubara, Siramos, Sijarum, Siangkat, Si100 hari, Sibosur, Sirukun, Sicantik, and Sigabe. Evaluation susceptibility of rice used the method without choice. The results showed that local rice in Dairi Regency, North Sumatra Province, was grouped into rice long–very long and medium-sized and had different levels of susceptibility against S. oryzae. Rice of Sibatubara, Sijarum, Siramos, and Sicantik was classified as susceptible, while rice Sijarum, Si100 hari, Sirukun, and Siangkat classified as moderate-susceptible. Rice Sigabe were classified moderate against S. oryzae during storage. The susceptibility of rice was influenced by the large number of F1 and short median development time. The damage of higher causes rice classified as susceptible and moderate-susceptible. Dimensions of rice are a source susceptibility rice against S. oryzae.

Abstract

Bukan hanya gagal panen bahkan gagal tumbuh dan berkembangnya rumpun padidisertai warna kemerahan yang berlanjut pada kematian tanaman padi merupakansatu hal yang ditakuti oleh para petani. Selain petani mengalami kerugian, merekajuga mengalami kekecewaan tuduhan asal mula penyakit berasal dari lahan sawahmereka. Kondisi ini disebabkan oleh rendahnya nilai pH tanah. Jika diukur denganalat pengukur ph tanah, nilai ph tanahnya jauh dibawah 3,5. untuk mengembalikankesuburan tanahnya, maka tujuan pengabdian ini adalah untuk menaikkan ph tanah.Upaya menaikkan nilai pH tanah dilakukan dengan menebarkan mikroba baik yangtelah difermentasikan, yang kemudiannya dicairkan dengan air dan disemprotkan kelahan sawah dengan pengulangan yang sama sebanyak 3 kali yaitu pada h-17 h-12 dan h-5. Selanjutnya penyemprotan ke tanaman padi dengan pengulangan yang samasebanyak 4 kali yaitu, pada h+14, h+28, h+42, h+56. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkanbahwa perlakuan penyemprotan mikroba yang difermentasikan dan disemprotkan 3kali ke tanah telah meningkatkan nilai pH tanah dari tidak terbaca oleh alat pengukurpH (jauh dibawah 3,5) berubah menjadi bernilai 5,5. Kemudian, hasil panen padinyamencapai 6, 6 ton/Ha dengan jenis bibit inpari 32.

Abstract

Hama pascapanen Sitophilus oryzae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) dan Rhyzopertha dominica (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) merupakan hama utama yang menyebabkan kerusakan secara kuantitas dan kualitas sorgum selama penyimpanan.  Interaksi antar individu S. oryzae dan R. dominica dapat terjadi pada spesies yang sama maupun spesies yang berbeda di penyimpanan sorgum. Tujuan penelitian mempelajari interaksi antara S. oryzae dan R. dominica terhadap pertumbuhan populalsi keduanya dan dan kerusakan sorgum.   Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan perlakuan intraspesifik dan interspesifik S. oryzae dan R. dominica. Jenis perlakuan terdiri dari tiga taraf yaitu 30 pasang imago S. oryzae, 30 pasang imago R. dominica, dan 15 pasang imago S. oryzae + 15 pasang imago R. dominica. Imag-imago tersebut diinfestasikan ke dalam stoples plastik yang berisikan 150 g sorgum dan disimpan selama 60 hari. Parameter pengamatan meliputi jumlah imago, persentase berat bubuk dan susut berat sorgum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa interaksi antara S. oryzae dan R. dominica mempengaruhi pertumbuhhan populasi keduanya dan kerusakan sorgum. Kompetisi interspesifik antara spesies S. oryzae dan R. dominica secara nyata dapat mengurangi populasi kedua tersebut.  Kompetisi intraspesifik S. oryzae mampu menyebabkan persentase susut berat dan persentase berat bubuk yang lebih besar dibandingkan kompetisi intraspesifik R. dominica dan kompetisi interspesifik keduanya. Informasi tentang interaksi antar spesies S. oryzae dan R. dominica sebagai acuan kegiatan pemantauan untuk mengevaluasi tindakan pengendalian yang dilakukan terhadap hama tersebut di penyimpanan sorgum.

Abstract

Sorgum merupakan sumber pangan alternatif setelah beras karena memiliki keunggulan komparatif terhadap serealia lainnya.  Sorgum mempunyai kandungan karbohidrat dan protein yang tinggi dibandingkan dengan beras. Kerusakan pascapanen sorgum yang paling banyak terjadi selama proses penyimpanan terjadi karena adanya serangan hama Sitophilus oryzae. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mempelajari kerusakan sorgum berdasarkan perbedaan kepadatan populasi S. oryzae dan periode penyimpanan sorgum. Parameter pengujian meliputi periode penyimpanan selama 40, 60, 80, 100, dan 120 hari serta kepadatan populasi S. oryzae yang yaitu 5, 10, 15,20, dan 25 pasang imago/150 g sorgum. Setiap perlakuan dengan empat ulangan sehingga terdapat 20 satuan unit percobaan. Parameter pengamatan meliputi populasi, kerusakan, dan peningkatan kadar air sorgum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepadatan populasi awal S. oryzae dan periode penyimpanan sorgum mempengaruhi populasi, susut berat, dan peningkatan kadar air sorgum.  Kepadatan populasi 25 pasang imago per 150 g sorgum dapat meningkatkan populasi, persentase susut berat, dan kadar air sorgum. Periode penyimpanan sorgum selama 120 hari dapat meningkatkan populasi, persentase susut berat, dan kadar air sorgum.

Abstract

Storage of cereal is a section of the stage post-harvest and helpful for maintaining food availability against crop failures and natural disasters. The losses yield commodity cereal happened at the stage storage caused by Rhyzopertha dominica. This study aimed to determine the comparison population R. dominica and damage to rice and sorghum based on the storage period. The types of cereals used are rice and sorghum. The research was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with the treatment of storage periods for rice and sorghum consisting of five levels is storage for 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120 days. Observation parameters included population R. dominica and damage as well increased moisture content of rice and sorghum. Data obtained from the observations were analyzed using analysis of variance.  The results showed that the population of R. dominica and damage more happened to sorghum than rice based on the storage period. The storage period of 120 days could increase population R. dominica, damage and moisture content of rice and sorghum. Knowledge of the storage period for rice and sorghum give information so that not to stored rice and sorghum for long time periods

Abstract

The lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) is a primary pest that causes damage to stored cereals such as corn, grain, rice, wheat, sorghum, tubers, and starch-containing substrates and packaging made from wood. R. dominica not only cause losses in terms of quantity but also affect quality during the storage period through their feeding activities. The study aimed to determine the level of susceptibility to rice during storage to R. dominica. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Pest and Disease, Faculty of Agriculture, Malikussaleh University, Aceh which began from November 2019 to February 2020. The study was done in the form of laboratory experiments using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) nonfactorial with a total treatment of 10 rice varieties. The results of variance analysis using the Duncan Multiple Range test showed that the susceptibility level of rice to R. dominica infestation was classified into moderate category. The highest percentage of weight loss was found in Mekongga varieties (1,95%) while the lowest in Inpari 30 (0,73%)

Abstract

The problem on physical properties of land in Reuleut Timu Village is that topography varies from flat, wavy, and sloping. As a different topography, depth water varies as well, some are shallow and deep. The depth of tillage is shallow and has a dense layer, lack of water, low organic matter, generally has a structure soil dense. The purpose of community service activities is to increase motivation partner farmers use abandoned land, increase conservation soil and income from partner farmers, guide farmers to utilize waste agricultural as compost and intercropping. Methods of community service activities are counseling, practices composting, and intercropping. The results that showed to activity can be said effective because activity has been running according to purpose activity. Partners gain knowledge and skills about manufacture and application of straw compost and intercropping, which are soil conservation techniques using method vegetative. Conservation soil can increase fertility soil with increase income farmers' by making straw compost.
