Abstract

The progress in artificial intelligence (AI) technology has greatly changed various facets of society. This study aimed to explore aspects that need to be considered in developing AI curriculum for senior high schools in Indonesia. The qualitative approach employed in this study. The researchers utilized focus group discussions with schools’ management and students at seven cities and group interviews with students at three cities. The results show that some schools want AI as an extracurricular activity, while others want it as a mandatory subject. School management and teachers aim for 2-3 competent AI instructors in each school. If no teachers are available, training will be provided to ICT, mathematics, or physics teachers for about a year to become AI educators. All participants agree on the importance of teaching students about AI applications and discussing ethical issues related to AI.

Abstract

AbstractMathematics has a strong connection with traditions that exist within society. The use of cultural contexts in learning can help explain abstract mathematical concepts. This study aims to explore mathematical concepts embedded in the traditional leuit building, which is part of Sundanese cultural heritage. The research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach from September to December 2024 at the Sindang Barang Cultural Village, Bogor. Data were collected through observation, interviews with cultural village managers, and documentation, then analyzed using Spradley’s model, which includes selecting an ethnographic project, formulating questions, collecting and recording data, analyzing, and writing reports. The results show that the leuit structure contains concepts of plane geometry, solid geometry, and reflection. These findings indicate that the leuit can be utilized as a contextual learning medium for geometry topics at the elementary and junior high school levels. Thus, this traditional building functions not only as a cultural symbol but also as a learning resource that connects mathematical concepts to real-life experiences.

Abstract

The low mathematical computational thinking ability of students is caused by the lack of mathematics learning innovation that supports this ability. This study aims to analyse the effect of Realistic Mathematics Education on mathematical computational thinking ability based on students self-regulated learning. The research design used was a pseudo-experiment with a 2x3 factorial design. This research was conducted in class XI of one of South Tangerang State High School. The sample consisted of 42 students in each experimental and control class in which there were high, medium, low self-regulated learning groups. Data were collected using tests and questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analysed using two-way analysis of variance. The test results showed that: 1) there is a significant average difference in mathematical computational thinking ability between students learning using Realistic Mathematics Education and students learning using conventional approaches, 2) there is a significant average difference in mathematical computational thinking ability between students who have high, medium, and low self-regulated learning, and 3) there is no interaction between learning approaches on mathematical computational thinking ability in terms of students self-regulated learning

Abstract

This research aims to develop a mathematics e-module using CBL based on Augmented Reality (AR) with Jakarta Ethnomathematics nuances that is valid, able to facilitate students' mathematical critical thinking skills, and get very good responses. The method used was the development method (R&D) with the Plomp model. The Plomp model consists of 3 phases, which are preliminary research, prototype phase, and assessment phase.  The results showed that in the preliminary research phase, the results of curriculum analysis, learner needs analysis, and task analysis were obtained so that a solution to improve critical thinking skills could be formulated. In the prototyping phase, an e-module was produced which had an average level of percentage score of material and media validity of 93.44% and 92.31% with “Very Valid” criteria. The posttest results showed that the e-module was able to facilitate students' critical thinking skills seen from the achievement of average completeness which was more than KKTP and classical proportion completeness of more than 75%. Mathematics e-modules using AR-based CBL with Jakarta Ethnomathematics nuances received a “Very Good” response from students of 96.63%. In conclusion, mathematics e-modules using AR-based CBL with Jakarta Ethnomathematics nuances are proven to be categorized as very valid, able to facilitate students' mathematical critical thinking skills, and this module is easy to use in the learning activity.   Keywords: Augmented Reality, Challenge Based Learning, Critical Thinking, E-Module, Ethnomathematics

Abstract

-This study aims to explore the impact of using the Quadratic Equation Board in improving seventh-grade students' understanding of quadratic equations through a qualitative research approach. Unlike previous studies that used experimental methods, this study relied on in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis to obtain a comprehensive overview of students' learning experiences and teachers' perceptions of the use of this innovative tool. Data were collected from students and teachersdirectly involved in the learning process using the Quadratic Equation Board. The results indicate that this tool can increase student engagement, facilitate understanding of the abstract concept of quadratic equations, and encourage active participation in classroom discussions. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating innovative learning media based on concrete teaching aids into mathematics lessons to create a more interactive and meaningful learning environment. This study recommends that mathematics teachers consider using similar tools to improve the quality of classroom instruction.

Abstract

Computational thinking is the ability to think about solving problems the way a computer works. This ability is very important in the 21st century, so it needs a teacher's attention when teaching mathematics. This study aims to explore and analyze the impact of discovery learning on students' mathematical computational thinking abilities and self-confidence. The research was carried out at a private high school in Bogor for the 2023/2024 academic year. This research uses a quasi-experimental method with a randomized posttest-only control group design. The research sample consisted of 28 students using the discovery learning model and 26 students using the conventional model. Data collection instruments are tests and questionnaires that have been tested for validity and reliability. The research results show that the average mathematical computational thinking ability taught using the discovery learning model is higher than the conventional model class, with a large influence in the medium category (= 0.221). The average self-confidence of experimental class students is higher than that of the control class with large being included in the medium category (= 0.186). The discovery learning model influences students' mathematical computational thinking abilities and self-confidence in the high category (= 0.292).
