Abstract

This research was conducted to observe the influence of electric stimulation and chilling period on meat of Simmental cross. This experiment used factorial design with 5 blocks. The first factor was electric stimulation (with and without electric stimulation), the second factor was chilling period (0, 12 and 24 hours). Around 7.5 kg Simmental cross meat (Tricep brachii) from 5 head were used on this research. The observed variables were pH, cooking loss and tenderness. The results showed that there was no interaction of electric stimulation and chilling period (up to 24 hours) on all of observed variables. Electric stimulation treatment was significant improved tenderness of Simmental cross beef but it was not significant on pH and cooking loss. There was significant influenced of chilling period on pH, cooking loss and tenderness of Simmental cross beef.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi ukuran tubuh sapi Bali dan Simbal di daerah Luhak Nan Duo, Pasaman Barat. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode survei dengan menggunakan sampel sebanyak 60 ekor sapi jantan pada sapi Bali dan Simbal yang  terbagi atas 30 ekor sapi Bali dan 30 ekor sapi Simbal. Setiap unit perlakuan terdiri atas 10 ekor. Perlakuan dikelompokkan pada berbagai umur ternak yakni lepas sapih (I0), 1,5-2 tahun (I1) dan 2,5-3 tahun (I2). Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Sedangkan perbandingan  jenis sapi perlakuan dianalisis menggunakan uji-t. Dari hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa panjang badan sapi Bali jantan pada umur I0, I1, I2 yaitu: 67,7+ 1,34; 82,3±7,01; 112,8±2,57 cm. Tinggi pundak: 84,5±1,58; 92,3±4,83; 111,9±4,28 cm. Lingkar dada yaitu: 93,1±2,23; 120,7±7,36; 142,4±7,73 cm. Sedangkan bobot badan adalah 53,09±3,36; 108,69±13,98; 209,35±24,04 kg. Panjang badan sapi Simbal yaitu: 82±2,62; 106,4±0,97; 126,6±1,07 cm. Tinggi pundak: 91,3±1,34; 105,3±95; 123,7±2,31 cm. Lingkar dada sebesar 96,9±37; 136,7±1,49; 155,3±1,64 cm. Sedangkan bobot badan 69,69±3,08; 179,93±5,01; 276,29±7,12 kg. Dari hal diatas dapat ditarik simpulan bahwa ukuran tubuh sapi Simbal lebih unggul dibandingkan sapi Bali.

Abstract

The activities of devotion for farmers group Rawang Saiyo and farmer groups Tuah Sepakat in Solok Regency and South Solok Regency of West Sumatra with objective to cultivate a farm beef cattle and utilisation the land for pastura; trying to overcome the problem of inadequate enclosure conditions, lack of water stock due to leaking water reservoirs and distant water sources, the length of the sewage treatment process due to inadequate processing of sewage, lack of forage that occurs during dry season. This program is carried out with counseling methods, focused discussions, piloting and training. Science and technology implementation method is carried out by applying a number of technologies according to existing problems, namely cage repair, repair of sewage treatment plants and water reservoirs and increased production of natural pastures with the introduction of cover crop legumes, water procurement efforts to farmer groups so as to ensure the sustainable of cattle farming. Utilisation of rice straw which is a by product of rice fields that are near farmer groups through straw ammonia technology so that it can be used as an alternative to forage.

Abstract

One of the most critical factors in increasing beef cattle is feed. Besides, breeders also need practical, quality, and continuous cattle feed. We need the development of superior grass technology/king grass using the arbuscular Mycorrhizal fungi to support feed production for beef cattle. The arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi play a role in increasing plant growth and resistance to attack by root pathogens and resistance to stress conditions. The objectives of this activity are: 1. to improve breeders' knowledge and skills in useful and profitable beef cattle cultivation; 2. to increase farmer's knowledge and skills in cultivating superior grass with arbuscular mycorrhizae. The method used is the counseling method, where previously through an approach, counseling, training and coaching, and finally, evaluation and monitoring. While the activities include good and profitable beef cattle cultivation and superior grass cultivation using the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. The partners of this activity are the Kubu Sepakat livestock group and the Parak Karakah community, Padang. Partners' problems are 1. breeders have difficulty providing forage feed, 2—lack of knowledge on good and profitable beef cattle cultivation. The activity results found that breeders increased their knowledge about excellent and profitable beef cattle cultivation techniques. From the results of the activity, it can be seen that the livestock's ability to cultivate superior grass using the arbuscular Mycorrhizal fungi has increased so that the nutritional needs of livestock can be met. Based on the results of the statistical tests that the activities carried out have an index value of 90, this indicates that the activities carried out are beneficial or successful in transferring knowledge and skills to breeders.

Abstract

Kota Padang sangat berpotensi besar pada usaha peternakan, hal ini disebabkan tingginya kebutuhan daging di kota ini disebabkan peningkatan laju pertambahan penduduk. Selama ini kebutuhan daging masih di suplai dari daerah lain, untuk meminimalisir suplai daging tersebut maka perlu memacu peternak kota Padang dengan sistem peternakan kota. Sistem peternakan ini dapat mengoptimalkan lahan yang sempit. Tujuan kegiatan ini yaitu: 1. meningkatkan keterampilan peternak terhadap budidaya sapi potong yang menguntungkan, 2. peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan peternak dalam penerapan teknologi deteksi kebuntingan dini sapi potong. Metode kegiatan ini terdiri atas penyuluhan, demonstrasi/pelatihan dan evaluasi terhadap budidaya sapi potong yang baik dan menguntungkan, deteksi kebuntingan dini sapi potong. Mitra kegiatan ini adalah Kelompok ternak Kubu Sepakat, masyarakat dan Dinas Peternakan dan pertanian Provinsi Sumatera Barat. Dari hasil kegiatan terlihat meningkatnya pengetahuan peternak dalam budidaya sapi potong yang baik berbasis menguntungkan bahkan peternak juga mampu dalam penerapan teknologi deteksi kebuntingan dini pada sapi potong yang dimiliki. Teknologi ini dapat mendeteksi kebuntingan dini sapi potong dalam waktu relatif singkat, murah, dan massal serta tidak membutuhkan skill bagi peternak. Hal ini tentu dapat meningkatkan populasi dan produktivitas sapi potong serta menyejahterakan petani/peternak dalam rangka mempercepat proses swasembada pangan tahun 2024 di Sumatera Barat. Dari hasil kegiatan maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan ini dapat terlaksana dengan baik dan lancar sesuai dengan target yang diharapkan. Di samping itu, peserta/peternak bersemangat dan antusias dalam mengikuti kegiatan ini. Kegiatan ini sangat bermanfaat bagi peternak serta berhasil dalam mentransfer ilmu pengetahuan dan peningkatan keterampilan peternak dalam penerapan teknologi.

Abstract

Cow candy is a feed supplement that contains a source of protein, energy and minerals needed by livestock. This cow candy is shaped on and rich in nutrients which is used to increase beef cattle productivity. Cow candy is very useful in growing microbes in the rumen, adding energy, growing lust, and fattening. This activity aims to: 1. increase beef cattle population / productivity through cow candy making in Kenagarian Sungai Kunyit Solok Selatan, 2. improve breeders 'understanding of making beef candy as feed for Nagari River Kunyit beef cattle, 3. improve breeders' skills in making candy cattle, and 4. the application of technology from the campus to the Sungai Kunyit nagari community. This activity was carried out in June 2019 which involved Unand students, breeders and the community in Nagari Sungai Kunyit. The method of this activity is in the form of counseling, demonstration, guidance, coaching and evaluation. From the implementation of the activity, the results of the activities are as follows: 1. The response of farmers / community is very high following the activities of counseling and demonstration of cow candy, 2. Improving the understanding of breeders / community in making cow candy, 3. Increasing the income / welfare of the community in the business of cow candy. This activity was categorized as successful after evaluating the activity and benefiting breeders / community of Sungai Kunyit, South Solok.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini bertujuan: 1. penerapan teknologi deteksi kebuntingan dini untuk meningkatkan produktivitas sapi potong di Nagari Sungai Kunyit, Solok Selatan, 2. meningkatkan pemahaman peternak dalam teknologi deteksi kebuntingan dini, 3. meningkatkan ketrampilan peternak dalam penerapan teknologi deteksi kebuntingan dini pada sapi potong. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Nagari Sungai Kunyit, Solok Selatan pada bulan Juli 2019. Kegiatan ini melibatkan petani/peternak, masyarakat Sungai Kunyit, Solok Selatan bahkan mahasiswa Universitas Andalas yang terdiri dari berbagai Fakultas. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan ini yakni penyuluhan, demonstrasi/pelatihan, bimbingan dan pembinaan. Hasil kegiatan yang diperoleh yaitu: 1. meningkatnya pemahaman peternak dan masyarakat dalam teknologi deteksi kebuntingan dini, 2. meningkatnya ketrampilan peternak/masyarakat dalam penerapan teknologi deteksi kebuntingan dini pada sapi potong, 3. peserta pelatihan sangat antusias mengikuti kegiatan ini yang diharapkan adanya peningkatan pendapatan/kesejahteraan peternak di Nagari Sungai Kunyit, Solok Selatan. Dari hasil evaluasi kegiatan dapat diambil suatu kesimpulan bahwa kegiatan ini sangat sukses dan bermanfaat bagi peternak/masyarakat di Nagari Sungai Kunyit, Solok Selatan dalam mendukung pengembangan usaha peternakannya.

Abstract

In the context of developing beef cattle, it is necessary to look at the existing potential and the strategies used. The purpose of this study is to analyze the potential for beef cattle development in the district of Rokan upstream and to formulate a development strategy in the future. This research is descriptive qualitative, the data used are primary data and secondary data through interviews and direct observation. This research was carried out in three stages. Stage one; Identification and analysis of beef cattle development potential. Stage two; Analysis of beef cattle business in the central area. The third stage is formulating a strategy. To formulate a strategy using a SWOT analysis followed by a QSPM analysis in determining the priority of beef cattle development strategies. The results showed that there were seven sub-districts that became the basis for the development of beef cattle, namely: Bangun ancient sub-districts, Kecepatan upstream, Rambah samo, Rambah downstream, Rokan IV Koto, Pendalian IV Koto, Tandun and Pagaran tapah. The value of the capacity for increasing the population of ruminant livestock (KPPTR) is 33,724,02 ST. The priority strategies in beef cattle development are 1) Determination of livestock areas through regional regulations, 2) Encouraging groups to develop livestock nurseries, 3) Encouraging the growth of financial institutions to increase farmer capital, 4) Improving the marketing system, 5) Improving livestock breeding, 6) Livestock development with an integrated system, 7) Land optimization, 8) Encouraging the growth of financial institutions, 9) Conducting farmer training, 10) Increasing farmer's capital, 11) Group counseling and 12) Group development in beef cattle business efficiency.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the composition of the pH, cooking loss and water holding capacity of Bali cattle, at different ages and muscle locations. The locations of the muscles observed were the Longissimus dorsi (LD), Pectoralis superficialis (PS), Semitendinosus (ST) and Triceps Brachii (TB) muscles. Cattle aged 1-1.5 years and 3.5-4 years with moderate body condition, 250 g of each sample was taken for every 6 Bali cattle. This study used a 4x2x3 factorial design with a total of 24 experimental units, in a randomized block design (RBD), factor A was muscle type (A1 (LD), A2 (PS), A3 (ST), and A4 (TB)). Factor B is age (B1 aged 1-1.5 years and B2 aged 3.5-4 years). The treatment showed a significant effect, so further tests were carried out using the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) and how to analyze the data using SPSS. The variables measured were pH, cooking losses and water holding capacity. The research data was processed using analysis of variation (ANOVA). The results of this study concluded that there was no interaction between the type of muscle and the age of the cattle in the meat quality test on pH, cooking loss and water holding capacity of Bali beef. Muscle type has no effect on pH, cooking loss and water holding capacity of Bali beef. Age greatly influences the pH of Bali beef and affects the water holding capacity of Bali beef, but has no effect on cooking loss of Bali beef. Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of fattening Kaur cattle-fed sakura block plus supplements and ammoniated palm frond-based rations. The production efficiency of Kaur cattle fed with sakura block plus supplements and ammoniated palm-frond-based ration. The study design uses Latin Square Design (LSD) with treatments P0 (10% sakura block plus), P1(12% sakura block plus), and P3 (14% sakura block plus). This study employed four 12-month-old male Kaur cattle for four 10-day treatment periods. Ration Efficiency (RE), Feed Cost per Gain (FC/G), Income Over Feed Cost (IOFC), and Revenue per Cost Ratio (R/C) were not substantially different between treatments (P>0.05).
