Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the misconceptions encountered by students with a visual learning style in solving algebraic numeracy problems using the Certainty of Response Index (CRI) method. The research was conducted with eighth-grade students at SMPN 4 Jember who had previously studied equations and inequalities. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through questionnaires, tests, and interviews. To ensure data validity, member checks were conducted. The findings reveal three distinct types of misconceptions: theoretical, correlational, and classificational. Students with a visual learning style exhibited theoretical misconceptions, including misunderstandings of variable concepts and PtLSV (Pertidaksamaan Linear Satu Variabel - One-variable Linear Inequality) framework, errors in algebraic operation principles, and flawed reasoning when responding to problems. Additionally, correlational misconceptions were identified, such as difficulties in translating given information into mathematical expressions and errors in representing concepts across different mathematical formats. These misconceptions primarily stem from students' incomplete or inaccurate prior knowledge, limited conceptual understanding, and associative thinking patterns. To mitigate these issues, educators are encouraged to assess students' initial comprehension through diagnostic testing, enabling early identification and correction of misconceptions. Addressing these misunderstandings at an early stage can prevent further cognitive obstacles when students engage with more complex mathematical concepts.

Abstract

Digital transformation in education requires teachers not only to master technology but also to integrate it into meaningful learning practices. This community service program aimed to enhance the competencies of teachers at SMA Al-Furqan Jember in implementing deep learning supported by artificial intelligence (AI). The activity was conducted through an intensive workshop involving 16 teachers from various subject areas, focusing on strengthening AI literacy, understanding the concepts of deep learning namely meaningful, mindful, and joyful learning and utilizing Padlet TA and Gimkit as learning platforms. The implementation methods included needs analysis, theoretical and practical training sessions, as well as evaluation through pre-tests, post-tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The results showed an improvement in teachers’ competencies in designing AI-assisted lesson plans, developing interactive learning activities, and understanding deep learning concepts more comprehensively. Teachers also expressed positive responses to the use of Padlet and Gimkit, as these tools were considered effective in increasing student engagement and learning creativity. This program demonstrates that practice-based mentoring is effective in supporting the sustainable implementation of deep learning in school-based instruction. ABSTRAK Transformasi digital dalam pendidikan menuntut guru tidak hanya menguasai teknologi, tetapi juga mampu mengintegrasikannya dalam pembelajaran yang bermakna. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi guru SMA Al-Furqan Jember dalam menerapkan pembelajaran deep learning berbantuan kecerdasan buatan (AI). Kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui workshop intensif yang melibatkan 16 guru dari berbagai mata pelajaran, dengan fokus pada penguatan literasi AI, pemahaman konsep deep learning yang meliputi meaningful, mindful, dan joyful learning, serta pemanfaatan platform Padlet TA dan Gimkit. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi analisis kebutuhan, pelatihan teori dan praktik, serta evaluasi melalui pre-test, post-test, angket, dan wawancara. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kompetensi guru dalam menyusun perangkat pembelajaran berbantuan AI, merancang aktivitas pembelajaran interaktif, serta memahami konsep pembelajaran mendalam secara lebih komprehensif. Guru juga memberikan respons positif terhadap penggunaan Padlet dan Gimkit karena dinilai mampu meningkatkan keterlibatan dan kreativitas dalam pembelajaran. Kegiatan ini membuktikan bahwa pendampingan berbasis praktik efektif dalam mendorong implementasi pembelajaran deep learning secara berkelanjutan di sekolah.

Abstract

Critical thinking is very necessary to face the development of the era that continues to develop. The international instrument that is often used to measure mathematical critical thinking skills is the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). This qualitative research with a descriptive approach aims to describe the process of students' mathematical critical thinking in solving PISA questions on the content of change and relationship in terms of self-regulated learning. The subjects of this study were one subject with a high self-regulated learning category and one subject with a moderate self-regulated learning category in grade VIII. The selection of subjects was based on the results of the self-regulated learning questionnaire criteria and the results of critical thinking tests. The results of the analysis obtained showed that students with high self-regulated learning had a superior mathematical critical thinking process compared to students with moderate self-regulated learning. Subjects with high self-regulated learning not only understood the questions well, but were also able to analyze them in depth, evaluate the results of their work, and draw logical and relevant conclusions. In contrast, subjects with moderate self-regulated learning were still able to solve the questions, but with simpler strategies and less in-depth thinking. They tended to follow standard procedures without further exploration of the concepts underlying problem solving.

Abstract

Proses berpikir aljabar siswa tercermin dari cara mereka menyelesaikan soal kontekstual. Penyelesaian soal kontekstual memungkinkan siswa mengembangkan pola pikir yang lebih kompleks karena melibatkan pengetahuan matematika formal dan informal. Variasi pendekatan siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah tidak hanya dipengaruhi oleh kemampuan kognitif, tetapi juga oleh faktor nonkognitif yaitu tipe kepribadian dan salah satu teori yang digunakan untuk mengklasifikasikan tipe kepribadian adalah Hippocrates–Galenus. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan tiga subjek kelas VIII, satu siswa bertipe Sanguinis dan dua siswa bertipe Plegmatis. Subjek tersebut dipilih secara purposive berdasarkan skor angket serta kemampuan komunikasi mereka. Data diperoleh melalui tes berpikir aljabar, observasi, dan wawancara, kemudian dianalisis melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Keabsahan data dijamin melalui teknik triangulasi metode. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa subjek Sanguinis mampu mengenali pola, menyusun rumus umum, dan menyimbolkan informasi, meskipun pemahaman hubungan antarvariabel masih bersifat konseptual. Pemodelan yang dilakukan belum konsisten, strategi analitik bersifat intuitif, dan pengorganisasian cenderung kurang terstruktur. Sementara itu, subjek Plegmatis mampu mengenali pola dan menyusun rumus, namun hanya memahami hubungan antarvariabel secara konseptual, cenderung tidak mengembangkan model atau menghasilkan model yang kurang tepat, serta menunjukkan hasil kerja yang kurang terorganisasi.
