Performing procedure text in English has its own complexities especially for twelve graders since they need to clearly present a series of action in logical order. When students performed their presentations online, they felt it was not as difficult as having an onsite presentation. Yet, the transition of learning mode in the current post-pandemic brings a greater challenge to them. To overcome this issue, this classroom action research offered the use of flashcards containing images and keywords that became the main attraction for students. The participants of this study were 28 students of a senior high school in Kediri. The results indicate that flashcards were significantly helpful in enhancing the twelve graders proficiency in performing procedure text with the increase from pre-test score of 76.79 into the post-test score 83.79 with a significance level of 000. It means that flashcards are able to improve student learning outcomes, especially in performing speaking for procedure text. Therefore, English speaking teachers are recommended to use flashcard to enrich student’s vocabulary and support the systematic presentation of procedure text.

This study analyzes the linguistic and paralinguistic features used by students who experience English-speaking anxiety in front of the Islamic Senior High School of Al–Karimi Gresik class. Speaking anxiety makes students afraid to express themselves because they feel incompetent and afraid of making mistakes. The study aimed to discover the linguistic and paralinguistic features shown when students are anxious about speaking. A qualitative method was used with data from voice recorder transcripts and notes. Further data collection was carried out using questionnaires to determine each participant's anxiety level. The findings show that code-mixing is the linguistic feature that most students exhibit. They constantly switch languages to Javanese or Indonesian when they experience anxiety due to vocabulary limitations. Meanwhile, pausing in the middle of sentences is the most exhibited paralinguistic feature. Based on the findings, it is recommended that English class students increase their vocabulary to reduce the possibility of language switching. In addition, teachers can ask students to prepare visuals and prompts to eliminate pauses and boost fluency.

This study used a systematic review, namely the research process by identifying previous research. Furthermore, this research applies a systematic analysis method that identifies the literature available on Google Scholar. This method has been used to produce original research as well as help researchers to critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize complex ideas. The five phases of systematic literature review are: 1) Framing questions for review 2) Relevant work 3) Assessing study quality 4) Summarizing the evidence 5) Interpret findings. From the results of the review a description it can be understood that there are student problems; they first have difficulty in terms of grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation. However, they also have problems in their psychology in learning speaking. Regarding online learning reviews, online learning is one of the alternative solutions for the learning process, including for students and teachers, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although it raises some problems, for teachers and students, all parties must be ready to implement it. So that online learning has positive and negative impacts.

In the utterances of Wernicke's aphasia sufferers, there are deixis inaccuracy or errors that can make the interlocutor unable to understand the meaning of Wernicke's aphasia sufferers. Existing research on deixis is still limited to ordinary people's speech, so in-depth research is needed on deixis in the utterance of Wernicke's aphasia sufferers, especially on deixis errors. Therefore, this study aims to identify the types and analyze the meaning of deixis errors expressed by Wernicke's aphasia sufferers. The deixis errors were identified from the utterances produced by four Wernicke's aphasia sufferers on YouTube channels. Data retrieval is in the form of choosing a few words that are only included in the expression of the use of deictic errors identified according to Levinson (1983). After that, the utterances containing deixis errors were interpreted from the context and the typology of the inaccuracy. The finding shows three out of five types of deixis errors made by Wernicke's aphasia sufferers. The most dominant type of deixis errors found is personal deixis. The results of this study can be helpful for further research to examine deixis errors in the speech of Wernicke's aphasia sufferers across different severity, language choice, age, gender and others. In addition, those who have interaction with Wernicke aphasia are supposed to provide easy-to-understand questions to avoid more occurrences of deixis inaccuracy.

Current linguistic studies tend to investigate sentence structure to determine the form of valency in written sentences. However, the study of valency in verbal communication still needs more exploration. This study investigated the types of valency and its arguments used by Ariana Jalia, a 6-year-old child, in her spontaneous utterances during the interview on ‘Steve TV Show’. As a qualitative descriptive study, the purpose was to gain a deep understanding of valency and its arguments found in the child's speech. In the field of semantics, the findings of this study indicated that the utterances produced by Ariana contained four types of valency zero, twelve types of valency one, and three types of verb valency. In addition, the semantic analysis investigated the thematic roles assigned to the argument verbs used by the child. Viewed from the agents, themes, causes, and topics of what Ariana described in her narrative, she employed transitive verbs. The findings shed light on the way children used language in informal and conversational settings and how they constructed sentences with different verb structures to convey their thoughts and ideas. It also highlights the importance of understanding the grammatical structures used by children in order to better support their language development. The need for further research suggests that there is still much to be learned about the early stages of language development and how children use language in various settings.

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) faces challenges in engaging students with grammar instruction. Grammar is a critical component of language education that underpins effective communication and comprehension. This study aims to develop an Educaplay-based grammar assessment tool for tenth-grade students at Senior High School 5 Taruna Brawijaya in Kediri, Indonesia. The instruments used for data collection included a grammar test, validated by experts to ensure content validity, and a questionnaire for expert feedback. The Research and Development (R&D) method was employed, following the steps outlined by Borg and Gall (1983), which involve product development, validation, and iterative revisions. Data analysis involved assessing the validity, reliability, difficulty index, and item discrimination of the grammar test. The findings indicate that the tool is valid and reliable, with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.884, although there is a need for more challenging items to better cater to a range of student abilities. It is concluded that Educaplay provides an effective and engaging alternative to traditional grammar assessments. These results are expected to provide valuable insights into how digital platforms such as Educaplay can be used to improve grammar teaching and student learning outcomes, not only in Indonesia but also in other countries facing similar challenges. The study recommends further development of the tool to incorporate more complex items and suggests exploring the long-term effects of using digital tools like Educaplay in grammar education.

The ongoing argument about the effectiveness of Native English-Speaking Teachers (NESTs) versus Non-Native English-Speaking Teachers (NNESTs) raises critical questions about students' preferences and the factors shaping their learning experiences. This study explores 10th-grade English as Foreign Language (EFL) students’ preferences for teaching approaches employed by NESTs and NNESTs. Using a qualitative research design, the study employed thematic analysis to examine data collected through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and structured interviews with 10 high school students experienced with both NESTs and NNESTs. Findings indicate that students preferred NESTs for clarity of explanation, pronunciation correction, and interactive activities, such as games and group work, which fostered engagement and independent learning. NNESTs, on the other hand, were valued for their structured reliance on course materials and relatable motivational stories. These preferences highlight complementary strengths, suggesting that a balanced integration of both teaching styles could enhance English language learning. The study contributes to the ongoing discourse on the role of native-speaker-ism in English education and calls for teacher training programs that emphasize the unique strengths of NESTs and NNESTs. Future research should include teacher perspectives and observational data for a more comprehensive analysis.
