Abstract

This research is undermined by the observance of directive illusions in the presidency debate of the Republic of Indonesia in 2024. The aim of the study was to describe the observance of directive illusions in the presidency debate of the Republic of Indonesia in 2024 and to explain how speakers use language to the purpose of action and how the speaker partners conclude the meaning intended to shape what is said. This research method uses descriptive qualitative methods to describe data compliance with directive illusions in the presidential debate of the Republic of Indonesia in 2024. The theory used in this study is the pragmatic theory, where pragmatics is the linguistics that study the meaning of the speaker. The results of the research show that the fulfillment of the illusion of the directive that emerges is questions and demands. It shows variations in the use of obedience to directive illusions, including orders, requests, suggestions, and prohibitions, used by the vice president to influence the views and actions of voters. In addition, the rhetorical strategy used in the debate also affects the effectiveness of following the illusion of directives in achieving the desired communicative objectives. Implications of this research are a better understanding of the use of language in political contexts and the importance of pragmatic analysis in understanding verbal interaction in the political arena.

Abstract

This research addressed the need for engaging and effective learning media in Indonesian language education, focusing on improving reading comprehension skills among fifth-grade students. Recognizing the limitations of standard worksheets, the study developed and validated the Education Gift Box (DUGIBO), a learning tool designed to teach main idea identification within environmental insight texts. Employing a research and development approach using the 4D model, the study aimed to assess the validity of DUGIBO as a viable educational resource. Data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation, involving an expert validator, a stakeholder teacher, and 21 students from class 5A at MI Ma'arif Kadipaten Ponorogo. The evaluation encompassed media, material, and language aspects, with data analyzed using percentage correction formulas. The findings revealed that the expert validation yielded a "very valid" rating, indicating the high quality and suitability of the DUGIBO media. Furthermore, student responses, gathered through questionnaires, demonstrated a "very good" reception, highlighting the media's effectiveness and appeal. Consequently, the study concluded that DUGIBO is a highly valid and feasible learning medium for enhancing reading skills in Indonesian language instruction, offering a valuable alternative to traditional learning materials and promoting environmental awareness.

Abstract

Tindak ilokusi mengacu pada tindak tutur yang sengaja dilakukan dengan tujuan dan fungsi tertentu. Penelitian ini berfokus pada berbagai jenis tindak tutur ilokusi, seperti asertif, direktif, ekspresif, komisif, dan deklaratif, yang ditemukan dalam novel Paradigma karya Shahid Muhammad. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meneliti jenis-jenis tindak tutur ilokusi yang terlihat dalam novel “Paradigma” oleh Shahid Muhammad. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan pendekatan pengumpulan data yang melibatkan investigasi kepustakaan. Tahap awal dari analisis data adalah dengan membaca buku “Paradigma”, mendokumentasikan ujaran-ujaran yang mencakup tindak tutur ilokusi, mengkategorikan dan mengklasifikasikan data, dan pada akhirnya meneliti data tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan novel “Paradigma” karya Shahid Muhammad sebagai sumber data utama. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori Searle. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa novel “Paradigma” karya Shahid Muhammad mengandung berbagai tindak tutur ilokusi. Hal ini termasuk tindak asertif seperti menjelaskan, menyatakan, memberitahukan, dan mempertahankan; tindak direktif seperti memerintah, menyarankan, menasehati, dan mengundang; tindak komisif yang semata-mata melibatkan penawaran; tindak ekspresif yang melibatkan pengekspresian perasaan kasihan, menyalahkan, berterima kasih, dan meminta maaf; dan tindak deklaratif yang semata-mata melibatkan pengambilan keputusan.

Abstract

This study analyzes the forms of expressions of acceptance in dialogues between students in Islamic boarding schools from a pragmatic perspective. This study aims to identify various expressions of acceptance used by students in daily interactions and to understand how the social and cultural context of Islamic boarding schools influences the use of these expressions. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observation and recording of conversations that occurred in the Islamic boarding school environment. The results of the study indicate that expressions of acceptance can be manifested through various forms, including direct speech such as "iyo" or "matur nuwun," acceptance with choice, and nonverbal expressions such as nodding and smiling. In addition, the principles of politeness and cooperation in student communication are evident in the use of acceptance strategies that consider social norms and hierarchies in Islamic boarding schools. These findings complement the study of pragmatics in the context of communication based on Islamic values ​​and show that interaction patterns in Islamic boarding schools reflect a balance between compliance with norms and curiosity in communication.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of illocutional speech acts contained in the lyrics of the song Hati-Hati di Jalan karya Tulus. The background of this research is based on the importance of understanding song lyrics as a form of communication that is full of pragmatic meaning, especially in the context of emotions and interpersonal relationships. The method used is qualitative descriptive with a content analysis technique based on the theory of classification of illocutional speech acts by Searle. Data were taken from all song lyrics and analyzed based on five types of illocution speech acts, namely representative, directive, expressive, commissive, and declarative. The results of the study show that in the lyrics of this song there are four types of illocutional speech acts, namely representative, directive, expressive, and commissive, with a dominance of representative and expressive types. The act of speech reflects various communication functions such as expressing beliefs, expressing feelings, giving hope, and showing commitment. This research implies that song lyrics can be a valuable object of pragmatic study, as well as enriching the understanding of communication strategies through language in popular literary works. This study has limitations on the scope of a single song and the interpretation of the researcher, so it is recommended that the next study examine other songs to broaden the perspective.

Abstract

Film serves not only as entertainment but also as a medium for conveying messages through verbal interactions between characters. In pragmatics, illocutionary acts are central to understanding a speaker’s intention within a given context. This study aims to describe and analyze the types and functions of illocutionary speech acts in the Indonesian film Komang (2025) by Naya Anindita, which portrays a love story across religious and cultural boundaries. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation and transcription of dialogue from the film. The analysis is based on Searle’s classification of illocutionary acts: representatives, directives, expressives, commissives, and declaratives. The findings reveal that all five types appear in the film, each playing a role in shaping interpersonal dynamics, emotional tension, and cultural values. Directive and expressive acts are the most dominant, reflecting intense emotional exchanges and social interactions. Commissive and declarative acts highlight commitment and authority, contributing to the narrative progression and cultural identity negotiation. The study concludes that illocutionary acts in films can represent social conflicts and cultural expressions, and recommends further research on other films with varied genres and contexts. The integration of multimodal elements is also suggested to enrich the analysis of meaning in audiovisual texts.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the application and deviation of conversational maxims in Grice's cooperative theory in the podcast "Sule and Rizwan". This podcast was chosen because it presents interactions full of humor, spontaneity, and communication dynamics that are interesting to study pragmatically. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with listening and note-taking techniques as data collection instruments. Data in the form of utterances containing maxims of quantity, quality, relevance, and method are analyzed based on Grice's cooperative principle. The results of the study show that the speakers in this podcast consciously or unconsciously apply the four Grice maxims, but also often deviate from them for the purpose of humor, satire, or dramatic effect. These deviations do not interfere with communication, but rather enrich the meaning and strengthen the appeal of the conversation. These findings indicate that violation of maxims in the context of entertainment is not a form of communication failure, but rather an effective pragmatic strategy.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the maxims of politeness of language used when communicating with lecturers via WhatsApp. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach method, data collection techniques, namely interviews and observations, other supporting data, namely screenshots of WhatsApp chats of students and lecturers. And using the word "sorry" to respect the interlocutor, sorry for disturbing his time, or disturbing his comfort, in the maxim of wisdom the speaker shows respect for the interlocutor, the maxim of appreciation shows respect for the opinion of the interlocutor, the maxim of generosity shows responsibility, the maxim of simplicity shows the humility and humility of the speaker, the maxim of agreement shows an agreement between lecturers and students, the maxim of sympathy, shows respect and sympathy for the interlocutor. Violation of politeness maxim of tact Hari senin bisa saya bimbingan ngga bun the speaker does not give a choice. A speaker's consensus maxim is unable to prepare himself in forming an agreement.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji variasi bahasa dan penggunaan sapaan dalam interaksi sosial di lingkungan Pondok Pesantren, dengan fokus pada cara-cara berbahasa yang mencerminkan nilai-nilai sosial, kesantunan, dan hierarki. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode simak, dengar, dan catat. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif di mana peneliti mengamati interaksi antar santri, ustaz, dan pengasuh dalam berbagai kegiatan sehari-hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya variasi bahasa dalam bentuk penggunaan tingkat tutur bahasa Jawa (ngoko dan krama alus) serta sapaan yang memiliki muatan sosial dan religius. Misalnya, sapaan “Bu Nyai” dan “Umi” digunakan untuk menyapa pengasuh wanita, sementara “Gus” dan “Kang” digunakan untuk menyapa pengasuh atau senior pria. Selain itu, terdapat pula penggunaan istilah khas pesantren seperti “ngaos”,“storan hafalan”,"ngaji binadhor" juga muncul sebagai bentuk pembelajaran mengaji langsung dengan membaca Al-Qur'an di hadapan guru, yang menunjukkan kedekatan antara pengajar dan santri dalam proses pembelajaran. Variasi bahasa ini tidak hanya mencerminkan kedekatan atau jarak sosial, tetapi juga menegaskan norma kesantunan dan hubungan hierarkis dalam komunitas pesantren. asil penelitian ini berguna bagi peneliti, pendidik, dan pemerhati bahasa untuk memahami dinamika interaksi sosial dan peran bahasa dalam membentuk tata hubungan sosial yang harmonis dan beradab dalam lingkungan pendidikan pesantren.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis tindak tutur ekspresif dalam novel Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak karya Ahmad Tohari. Tindak tutur ekspresif mencerminkan sikap dan emosi penutur dalam berbagai situasi dan keadaan, seperti mengejek, mengeluh, mengucapkan terima kasih, memuji, menyalahkan, dan mengkritik. Proses tindak tutur tidak hanya berfokus pada penyampaian informasi, tetapi juga mencakup tanggapan dari lawan bicara.Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik dokumentasi untuk mengumpulkan data dari seluruh isi novel, fokus pada tuturan yang mengandung ekspresi psikologis tokoh. Hasil analisis mengidentifikasi enam jenis tindak tutur ekspresif yaitu: mengejek, mengeluh, memuji, mengucapkan terima kasih, menyalahkan, dan mengkritik. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa Ahmad Tohari secara konsisten menggunakan tindak tutur ekspresif untuk memperkuat karakterisasi dan menggambarkan dinamika sosial dalam cerita. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan kajian pragmatik sastra, khususnya dalam memahami hubungan antara bahasa, ekspresi emosi, dan konteks sosial dalam karya sastra.
