Abstract

The use of Indonesian in teaching and learning interactions is a form of communication. Interactions carried out by students to lecturers can be in the form of conversations, dialogues, or questions about everything related to what students are feeling or complaining about. The speech acts used in discussions vary widely because they generally come from different regions. It is this impression that makes researchers interested in studying illocutionary speech acts in the lecture process. This study specifically aims to describe the use of illocutionary speech acts between students and lecturers of the Indonesian language and literature education study program at UMN Al Washliyah. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were students and lecturers in learning interactions in Indonesian language and literature education study program classes. The object of research is speech acts, especially illocutionary speech acts which are forms of student speech to lecturers. In this study, data collection was carried out using two methods, namely (1) the listening method and (2) the speaking method. The results of the study show that illocutionary speech acts between lecturers and students during the teaching and learning process take place in the form of declaration, representative, expressive, directive and commissive speech acts.

Abstract

Indonesian language functions as the primary medium of academic communication in higher education, yet language errors persist among university students. This study investigated the forms, frequencies, and causal factors of language errors among Indonesian Language and Literature Education students at STKIP Budidaya Binjai. Employing qualitative descriptive methodology, the research collected data from 20 students in semesters III and V through systematic observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentary analysis of over 200 written samples during a 14-week period. Results revealed five error categories with varying frequencies: non-standard words (38%), code mixing (25%), ineffective sentences (15%), spelling errors (12%), and morphological errors (10%). Analysis demonstrated substantial contextual variation, with digital communication platforms showing significantly higher error rates than formal academic contexts. Primary causal factors included informal language habits reinforced through peer interaction, pervasive social media influence, and insufficient emphasis on formal register maintenance. The findings indicate that students possess greater linguistic competency than aggregate error rates suggest but demonstrate selective application of standard forms based on perceived formality requirements. This research contributes empirical evidence for developing targeted pedagogical interventions including explicit register instruction, vocabulary formality training, and structured language development activities to enhance communicative competence among prospective educators in Indonesian teacher education contexts.

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Big Book learning media in improving the beginning reading skills of first-grade students at SDN 01 Rantau Selatan, Labuhan Batu Regency. The main problem raised in this study is the low beginning reading skills of students and the lack of use of interesting and effective learning media. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of Big Book in improving students' reading skills. The research method used was a quantitative method with a pretest-posttest experimental design. The research sample consisted of 23 first-grade students selected using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through an beginning reading test given before and after treatment using Big Book media. The results showed a significant increase in students' beginning reading skills after the use of Big Book. The average pretest score of students was 48.69, with a standard deviation of 17.91, indicating that most students had low to moderate beginning reading skills. After being given treatment, the average posttest score increased to 69.13 with a standard deviation of 10.83, indicating an increase of 20.44 points. In addition, the distribution of score categories also experienced changes, where in the pretest only 17.39% of students were in the high category, while in the posttest it increased to 30.43%. The t-test results showed that the calculated t of 8.095 was greater than the t table, so it can be concluded that there was a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores after the application of Big Book media in early reading learning. Thus, this study proves that the use of Big Book media can significantly improve students' early reading skills

Abstract

A differentiated teaching module, developed systematically and contextually over five sessions improve the language skills. The development of a differentiated teaching module in Indonesian language learning had a positive impact on students with ADHD. The paper aims to design to accommodate diverse student learning characteristics, taking into account content, processes, and learning products. The research is qualitative, supported by R&D and ADDIE models as techniques. The population includes all students with ADHD problems at a state school, and there are only two students classified in the sample. Data are collected through observation and in-depth interviews; both are conducted with classroom teachers, the teachers’ group, and parents. A documentation study also assists data collection. Focus is given on students’ attention, interaction, social skills, and engagement during learning, interviews, and the Indonesian language test. Data analysis technique uses qualitative methods in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The research reveals several challenges in implementing the differentiated teaching module. Teachers face obstacles in adapting learning strategies to students’ needs, especially in heterogeneous classrooms. Further training is needed for teachers to implement differentiated learning methods. With the teaching module, schools can improve the quality of inclusive education for their students, enabling them to obtain a more optimal learning experience. This research also emphasizes the importance of collaboration between teachers, parents, and the school in supporting students’ academic and social development with ADHD through a more flexible and responsive learning approach to their needs.

Abstract

Indonesian-speaking skills of fourth-grade students are low because of a lack of confidence, fluency, and minimal active participation in conventional oral learning. This study also aims to determine the effectiveness of using language game learning methods in improving students' speaking skills and activity. The research method uses Kemmis and McTaggart’s Classroom Action Research (CAR) model, which is implemented in two cycles, where each cycle consists of four stages. The subjects are 30 fourth-grade students. Data collection instruments include a performance test (oral assessment) and student activity observation sheets. The criteria for the success of the action are determined if the percentage of classical completeness reaches at least 80%. The results show that there is a consistent and significant increase. The average score of students’ speaking skills in the pre-action stage only reaches 55.00, with a very low percentage of classical completeness. After the implementation of language games in Cycle I, the average score increases to 72.50 (65% completeness). Through corrective actions in Cycle II, the average score increases again to 85.00, and the classical completion percentage reaches 90%. This improvement is also accompanied by increasing students’ activity and confidence in speaking in class. Based on these results, this study concludes that the language game learning method is effective and successful in developing Indonesian speaking skills. This method has been proven to create a fun, interactive learning environment and motivate students to dare to speak, so the action hypothesis is accepted.
