Abstract

This study aims to explain the application of the circular fashion concepts in the ready-to-wear fashion collection “Veerangana” through the utilization of upcycled denim and tenun bulu textiles within a single aesthetic and functional design. The research background is grounded in the increasing volume of textile waste resulting from linear consumption patterns and the limited use of traditional textiles in contemporary fashion, thereby indicating the need for innovation that supports environmental sustainability and the preservation of local culture. The method applied is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model, which consists of the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation, encompassing literature review, concept and moodboard development, as well as the prototyping and construction of the “Veerangana” fashion. Product feasibility was assessed through expert judgment by three fashion design experts using six indicators: design, sizing, aesthetics, sewing technique, performance, and uniqueness indicators. The assessment results show that the “Veerangana” ready-to-wear fashion falls into the “Highly Feasible” category, thus meeting visual, constructional, and functional feasibility standards, and has the potential to serve as a model of circular fashion implementation that contributes to reducing textile waste and strengthening the position of tenun bulu within the sustainable fashion industry.

Abstract

This study examines the development of contemporary ready-to-wear apparel “Viramrdu” by integrating upcycled denim and tenun bulu as an effort to address textile waste issues while preserving traditional Indonesian textiles. The rapid growth of the fashion industry has increased denim waste and reduced the relevance of local textiles in modern fashion, necessitating sustainable and innovative design approaches. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Product feasibility was assessed through expert judgment involving three professional fashion designers using evaluation indicators covering design, size, aesthetics, sewing techniques, fashion performance, and product uniqueness. The findings indicate that the “Viramrdu” ready-to-wear fashhion achieved a “Highly Feasible” category across all assessment indicators, demonstrating strong design quality, proportional sizing, aesthetic value, functional comfort, and innovation in material exploration. The integration of upcycled denim and tenun bulu successfully produced a contemporary, edgy, and functional fashion while maintaining sustainability principles. This study concludes that combining upcycled materials with traditional textiles has significant potential to support the development of sustainable ready-to-wear fashion with a strong design identity and market relevance.

Abstract

Traditional games are a cultural heritage that is becoming less familiar to the younger generation, necessitating adaptive and relevant preservation media. This research developed the ready-to-wear clothing "Klakka," adapting the traditional game of congklak by representing congklak elements through cuts, decorations, motifs, and colors. This study aimed to test the feasibility of the ready-to-wear clothing "Klakka" as culture-based ready-to-wear clothing. The method used was descriptive quantitative, with the feasibility assessment processed as a percentage. Data collection used a feasibility assessment instrument assessed by three fashion expert validators. The instrument consisted of six indicators: design, size, sewing technique, aesthetics, performance, and uniqueness of the clothing. The results showed that the "Klakka" clothing achieved a feasibility score of 91%, which is classified as very feasible. These findings indicate that the application of cultural elements to ready-to-wear clothing can meet technical and aesthetic requirements and has potential for developing ent in the fashion industry targeting young consumers.

Abstract

The ephemeral nature of water-based body painting presents significant technical challenges in tropical climates, particularly regarding durability against perspiration and friction during long duration performances. This study explores a material innovation using a baby powder locking technique to enhance pigment adhesion and achieve a specific matte aesthetic resembling "dry bone" (To Makula). The artwork, titled "The Eternal Beauty of Death from Tongkonan House," reinterprets the Toraja Aluk Todolo philosophy through fantasy makeup. Employing a mixed-method design, the research integrates Practice Art-Based Research (PABR) through three creation cycles exploration, experimentation, and realization and a descriptive quantitative approach for product feasibility testing. Experimental results demonstrate that the intermediate and layering locking techniques successfully prevented pigment oxidation and cracking. The makeup maintained visual integrity for approximately 12 hours (03:00 AM to 02:50 PM), withstanding intense stage lighting and outdoor parade conditions as evidenced during the Gelar Karya event. Expert validation involving three specialists yielded an average feasibility score of 93%, categorizing the product as "Very Feasible," with the Visual Aesthetics indicator achieving the highest score of 98%. The study concludes that this domestic material intervention offers a cost-effective, high-durability solution for professional fantasy makeup, successfully synthesizing traditional cultural narratives with avant-garde technical application.
