Abstract

Indonesia is a maritime country that has an abundance of marine catches. In 2022, the production of marine catches reached 24.85 millions tons, while the export amount was 1.221 millions tons. This is due to the limited technology that can extend the freshness of marine catches. Based on this problem, a cooling system was designed in the form of an ABF that can freeze marine catch products. The Air Blast Freezing (ABF) system is designed at an air temperature of -40oC using a cascade refrigeration system. The working fluid used is R290/R32 hydrocarbon, which has very low GWP and ODP so it is safe for the environment and the earth's ozone layer. The results obtained show that the cooling load is 444.037 Watts, the LTC compressor power and HTC compressor power are 116.19 Watts and 205.98 watts. The designed air blast freezing system has a surface area of LTC evaporator of 2.670 m2 and HTC condenser of 4.780 m2. The calculated capillary pipe length is 1.94 m for HTC and 1.51 m for LTC, the COP of the ABF system is 2.774.

Abstract

Energy management and audits are important steps in improving a building's energy efficiency. Mosques, as centers of religious and social activities, often have significant energy requirements. The research methods used include field observations at the Teratak Buluh Grand Mosque, measuring energy consumption, and recommendations for saving energy use. The research results show that mosques have the potential for significant energy savings with recommendations for energy conservation opportunities that can be implemented by reducing the number of lamps used and the number of air conditioners. Previously, electrical power consumption at the Teratak Buluh Grand Mosque was 74,480.40 kWh/year with electricity costs reaching IDR 68,894,370/year. Meanwhile, electrical power usage after energy conservation opportunities (ECO) is 41,918.40 kWh/year with electricity costs of IDR 38,774,520/year, with an energy consumption intensity (IKE) value at the mosque of 13.49 kWh/m2/ month. Based on Permen No. 13 Tahun 2012 Tentang Penghematan Energi Listrik, this value is included in the fairly efficient energy consumption category.

Abstract

Plastik sebagai inovasi dalam dunia material telah membawa dampak besar terhadap pencemaran lingkungan. Dampak negatif yang dihasilkan menjadi semakin nyata seiring dengan peningkatan produksi dan penggunaannya. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) adalah jenis plastik yang digunakan dalam pembuatan botol minuman, kemasan makanan, dan berbagai produk lainnya. Solusi yang sedang dikembangkan untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut adalah pemanfaatan limbah plastik sebagai bahan dasar pembuatan karbon aktif. Karbon aktif adalah adsorben yang digunakan dalam aplikasi filtrasi air, pemurnian gas, dan pengolahan limbah. Daya serap Iodium (DSI) merupakan parameter yang sangat penting dalam menentukan kualitas dari suatu karbon aktif sebagai adsorben. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui nilai DSI pada karbon aktif berbahan dasar limbah plastik PET. Metode penelitian ini adalah plastik PET dikarbonisasi pada temperatur 400ºC selama 240 menit. Kemudian diaktivasi fisika pada variasi temperatur 800ºC dan 850ºC selama 120, 180 dan 240 menit. Karbon aktif yang dihasilkan pada penelitian ini telah memenuhi standar SNI 06-3703-1995 dengan hasil pengujian DSI paling optimum terdapat pada karbon aktif yang diaktivasi pada temperatur 800ºC selama 240 menit yaitu sebesar 895,78 mg/g.

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan tinjauan komprehensif mengenai pengaruh variasi sudut deadrise terhadap performa kapal, termasuk aspek tahanan, stabilitas, seakeeping, dan fenomena slamming. Fokus utama dari review ini adalah menganalisis hasil-hasil penelitian terdahulu dan mengevaluasi dampak sudut deadrise terhadap kinerja kapal dalam berbagai kondisi operasi. Pada aspek tahanan, penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penurunan sudut deadrise dapat meningkatkan gaya angkat, mengurangi tahanan total, namun meningkatkan risiko slamming. Dari segi stabilitas, posisi Longitudinal Center of Gravity (LCG) yang lebih dekat ke haluan dapat memengaruhi periode dan amplitudo gerakan pitch serta porpoising, terutama pada kapal dengan sudut deadrise rendah. Untuk seakeeping, kapal dengan sudut deadrise rendah memiliki kecenderungan mengalami gerakan porpoising lebih besar, yang berpotensi meningkatkan risiko operasional, terutama dalam kondisi laut ekstrem. Fenomena slamming juga menjadi perhatian utama, karena gelombang yang bertabrakan dengan lambung kapal dapat menghasilkan tekanan besar yang tiba-tiba, mengancam struktur kapal. Dengan menganalisis berbagai temuan dari studi eksperimental dan numerik, review ini memberikan pemahaman yang mendalam tentang tantangan dan peluang desain kapal dengan variasi sudut deadrise. Hasil review ini diharapkan dapat membantu perancang kapal dalam mengoptimalkan desain yang efisien dan aman untuk beroperasi di berbagai kondisi laut, sekaligus meminimalkan risiko kerusakan struktur akibat slamming.

Abstract

Previous research has not analyzed the helium temperature distribution in the RDE steam generator shell. This study aims to fill that gap by analyzing these thermal characteristics with empirical calculations and Ansys Fluent simulations. The validity of the RDE steam generator design is reaffirmed, having been successfully analyzed from both the water-flow perspective in previous research and the helium-side perspective in the present study. The analytical methods used herein showed strong consistency, with empirical and numerical simulation results differing by less than 10% across all parameters. Although the calculated shell height of 5.73 m exceeds the RDE design's 4.97 m, the overall design's validity is confirmed.

Abstract

This research evaluates the energy efficiency of the Aloe vera drying process using a Freeze Vacuum Drying (FVD) system, focusing on the thermal performance and the role of a Thermal Energy Storage (TES) unit with paraffin wax as the storage medium. Experiments were conducted with Aloe vera samples of 2 kg, 3 kg, and 4 kg to assess their effects on energy usage, Coefficient of Performance (COP), and moisture removal efficiency. The highest Specific Moisture Extraction Rate (SMER) was 0.132 kg.water/kWh for the 4 kg sample, with a Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) of 7.223 kWh/kg.water and a COP of 5.4. The energy efficiency peaked at 10.80%, achieved by incorporating TES. The results demonstrate that TES improves COP and reduces the specific energy demand, leading to a more energy-efficient drying process.
