Abstract

We are still attempting to reduce COVID-19 morbidity and mortality through several means, including immunization. In early December 2021, Indonesia had 49.19% coverage of the second COVID-19 vaccination. Researching and collecting data on the association between vaccine completion and symptom severity is critical to persuade individuals to vaccinate. This study aims to examine the relationship between COVID-19 vaccination status and the degree of symptom severity in COVID-19 patients. This cross-sectional study used secondary data from the medical records of COVID-19 patients at the PDHI Yogyakarta Islamic Hospital from June to October 2021. The "PeduliLindungi" application was used to acquire vaccination status information. We used the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression for bivariate and multivariate analyses. The study enrolled 112 participants who met the criteria. The severity of COVID-19 symptoms was related to vaccination status and hypertension. Patients who were unvaccinated or had only partially vaccinated were 62.383 times more likely to develop severe and critical severity (aOR 62.383; 95% CI 12.129-320.861). Patients with hypertension were 3.643 times more likely than those without hypertension to experience severe or critical symptoms (aOR=3.643; 95% CI 1.025-12.952). Male gender, elderly age, chronic lung illness, and diabetes mellitus slightly increased the likelihood of severe symptoms but were not statistically significant. Complete immunization is strongly advised to reduce the risk of severe or critical symptoms.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of anemia among pregnant women in Indonesian remains high at 48.9%, with the highest rates observed among young mothers aged 15-24 years. Anemia is associated with adverse outcomes for both mothers and their children. Understanding the determinants of anemia in young mothers is crucial for taking preventive measures. However, there are currently no national studies in Indonesia on the prevalence and risk factors of anemia in pregnant women aged 15 to 24 years. Objective: To measure the prevalence and factors associated with anemia in young pregnant women in Indonesia. Methods: This cross-sectional study utilized on secondary data from the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riset Kesehatan Dasar= Riskesdas). The subject of this research were pregnant women aged 15 to 24 years who participated in Riskesdas 2018 and had independent variables data including hemoglobin measurement data, age, education, residence, occupation, travel time to health facilities, age at first pregnancy, ownership of the maternal and child health (MCH) handbook, history of previous abortion, gestational age, number of iron supplement tablets, supplementary feeding, and chronic energy deficiency. Univariate analysis was conducted to analyse the subject characteristics and hemoglobin data, while chi-square and logistic regression were used to determine factors associated with anemia in young pregnant women Results: The study found that 36.2% of young pregnant women had anemia. The incidence of anemia was associated with gestational age but not with other factors. Pregnancy in the first trimester poses the highest risk compared to other trimesters (cOR=3.89; 95%CI:1.47-10.30; p=0.006), as confirmed by multivariate analysis (aOR=4.44; 95%CI: 1.41-13.95; p=0.01).Conclusion: Anemia affects 36.2% of pregnant women aged 15 to 24 years in Indonesia. The risk of anemia in young pregnant women is significantly associated with gestational age with the first trimester being the most critical period.

Abstract

This study explores the increasing trend of traveling outdoors after the COVID-19 pandemic. There is still limited research in Indonesia exploring the role of multisensory experiences on tourists’ mental health benefits. Two main theories are used “the Attention Restorative Theory (ATR) and the Theory of Grounded Cognition, as the basis for developing the research model. This study aims to analyze the impact of the multisensory experience of outdoor tourism on place attachment, the perception of environmental restoration, and the perception of mental health benefits. This study examined 278 respondents who visited city parks and outdoor tourist sites in Yogyakarta and its surroundings. Using quantitative approaches and PLS statistical tools, it was found that the influence of multisensory experiences affects place attachment, perception of environmental restoration, and mental health benefits. The perception of environmental restoration also affects the mental health benefits. Only place attachment does not affect the mental health benefits of visiting outdoor destinations.  The implication for marketing strategies is that tourism should be designed to provide mental health benefits or balance between physical and mental health.

Abstract

Introduction: Older people are at high risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS), non-communicable diseases, and mortality. This makes it difficult for older people in slum areas to achieve healthy and productive quality of life (QOL). In Indonesia, a developing country with a significant and growing number of slum areas, research on this issue remains scarce.  This study aimed to analyze the risk factors that play a role in the incidence of MetS in older people living in slum areas. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The participants were male and female residents aged ≥45 years, with a total sample size of 150. The participants were selected through simple random sampling from a list of older people. Data analysis was performed using the chi-squared test for bivariate analysis and binary logistic regression for multivariate analysis. Results: The majority of the participants were female (62%), aged between 60-74 years (53.33%), with low-level education (86%), nutritional status in the overweight and obese categories (41.4%), and residence duration <5 years (70%). There was a significant association between district (p < 0.001) and body mass index (BMI) (p < 0.001) with MetS. Overweight participants were more likely to have MetS (AOR 3.75; 95%CI, 1.37-10.24), and the risk was higher among those with obesity (AOR 11.85; 95%CI, 3.90-35.97). Conclusions: The risk of MetS in slum dwellers is higher if they are overweight or obese. Periodic evaluation of body weight can help to control the incidence of MetS.

Abstract

Background: Overweight and obesity are increasing globally and in Indonesia, particularly among pre-seniors and seniors. Age-related changes and behavioral factors heighten obesity risk. Data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) show a high burden of obesity among older adults in Central Java. Objective: To identify determinants of overweight and obesity risk factors among pre-seniors and seniors in Central Java based on the 2023 SKI data. Methods: A cross-sectional study using secondary data from 23,602 respondents aged ≥45 years in Central Java. Nutritional status was assessed using Body Mass Index (BMI). Sociodemographic characteristics, consumption patterns, and physical activity were analyzed using chi-square tests and multivariate logistic regression to estimate Adjusted Odds Ratios (aOR). Results: 42.2% of respondents were overweight or obese. Risk factors included age ≥60 years (aOR=1.695), urban residence (aOR=1.349), and daily sweet beverage consumption (aOR=1.374). Protective factors included male sex (aOR=0.414), low education (aOR=0.628), marital status (married/widowed), and heavy physical activity (aOR=0.808). Moderate physical activity was not significant after adjustment. Conclusion: Obesity among pre-seniors and seniors in Central Java is influenced by demographic, social, and behavioral factors, indicating the need for tailored prevention strategies for older adults.
