Abstract

Abstract. Kabaret Bandung is a modern art performance that is popular among young people, especially in West Java. The hallmark of Bandung Cabaret is the use of audio playback, which distinguishes it from other cabarets. Every Bandung Cabaret performance always contains a message of information or knowledge that is conveyed in its story. Therefore, Bandung Cabaret performance art is used as a campaign medium to convey campaign messages to the public through the stories it presents because cabaret has a strong appeal, so it can attract the attention of the public and make it easier for them to receive the messages conveyed. This was also the case at the 2023 Spectacular Momentum Cabaret Festival, which used cabaret performance art as a campaign medium for the concept of life goals. This study aims to analyze Bandung cabaret performance art as a campaign medium. This study uses a qualitative case study research method with data collection through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The sources of data for this study are the organizers and spectators of the 2023 Spectacular Momentum Cabaret Festival as well as Bandung Cabaret experts. The results of this study are: 1) The purpose of cabaret is to convey socio-political messages in its performances, therefore the Bandung Cabaret performance in this Spectacular Momentum Cabaret Festival is to convey a campaign message about the concept of life goals. 2) Kabaret Bandung performance art as a campaign medium can cause dimensions of social change in society, including cognitive, affective, and behavioral changes. 3) Bandung performance art is effective as a campaign medium because Bandung Cabaret is a popular culture and the delivery of campaign messages is packaged in an interesting way so that it is easier to be accepted by the public. Abstrak. Kabaret Bandung merupakan sebuah pertunjukan seni modern yang populer di kalangan anak muda, terkhususnya di Jawa Barat. Ciri khas Kabaret Bandung adalah memiliki audio playback yang membedakan dengan cabaret lainnya. Dalam setiap pertunjukan Kabaret Bandung pasti terdapat pesan informasi atau ilmu pengetahuan yang disampaikan dalam ceritanya. Maka dari itu, seni pertunjukan Kabaret Bandung digunakan sebagai media kampanye untuk menyampaikan pesan-pesan kampanye kepada masyarakat melalui cerita yang dibawakannya karena kabaret memiliki daya tarik yang kuat, sehingga dapat menarik perhatian masyarakat dan membuat mereka lebih mudah menerima pesan yang disampaikan. Begitu juga pada Festival Kabaret Spektakuler Momentum 2023 yang menggunakan seni pertunjukan kabaret sebagai media kampanye mengenai konsep life goals. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis seni pertujunkan kabaret Bandung sebagai media kampanye. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif studi kasus dengan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dan analisis dokumen. Adapun narasumber dari penelitian ini adalah panitia dan penonton dari Festival Kabaret Spektakuler Momentum 2023 serta pakar Kabaret Bandung. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah 1) Tujuan dari cabaret yaitu untuk menyampaikan pesan-pesan sosial politik dalam pertunjukannya, maka dari itu pertunjukan Kabaret Bandung dalam Festival Kabaret Spektakuler Momentum ini adalah untuk menyampaikan pesan kampanye mengenai konsep life goals. 2) Seni pertunjukan Kabaret Bandung sebagai media kampanye dapat menyebabkan dimensi perubahan sosial di dalam masyarakat, diantaranya perbahan kognitif, afektif, dan behavioral. 3) Seni pertunjukan Bandung efektif sebagai media kampanye karena Kabaret Bandung merupakan budaya yang populer dan penyampaian pesan kampanye dikemas secara menarik jadi lebih mudah diterima oleh masyarakat.

Abstract

Abstract. The murder case of Mirna Salihin, which sparked controversy and inspired the making of the documentary film "Ice Cold." This film attempts to depict the chronology of the murder and the lengthy trial, with the aim of providing a broader perspective to the audience. This research will analyze how forensic communication is represented in the film, focusing on the messages related to forensic communication conveyed and interpreted in the film. This study aims to analyze the representation of forensic communication in the film "Ice Cold" using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach.The research methodology utilized a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative approach and data collection techniques involving observation, interviews, and literature review. The research subject is the film "Ice Cold," while the research objects encompass coffee symbolism, forensic sign analysis, visual representation, dialogue, and social context within the film. Primary data was obtained through direct observation of the film, while secondary data originated from relevant literature.Data analysis stages involved data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. Data validity was examined through technical triangulation and observer triangulation. The research findings are expected to provide a profound understanding of how the film "Ice Cold" represents forensic communication and its implications on the public's perception and evaluation of the murder case. Based on the discussion in this study, the researcher concludes several results as follows: (1) The denotative meaning shows the forensic communication process in detail through gestures, expressions, and the presentation of objective scientific evidence, depicting the accuracy of the forensic process in the film. (2) The connotative meaning portrays the complexity, pressure, and uncertainty involved in the forensic process and their impact on the perception and emotional reactions of the characters. (3) The film presents various societal myths about legal and forensic processes, such as the absolute certainty of scientific evidence and the transparency of investigations. (4) The forensic process is not only about finding factual truth but also about maintaining integrity, thoroughness, and honesty in the disclosure of evidence. (5) The representation in the film influences public understanding of the complexity and challenges of the forensic process, encouraging a deeper and more critical understanding of criminal investigation procedures. Abstrak. Kasus pembunuhan Mirna Salihin yang menimbulkan kontroversi dan menginspirasi pembuatan film dokumenter "Ice Cold". Film ini mencoba menggambarkan kronologi peristiwa pembunuhan tersebut serta pengadilan yang berlangsung lama, dengan tujuan memberikan perspektif yang lebih luas kepada penonton. Penelitian ini akan menganalisis bagaimana komunikasi forensik direpresentasikan dalam film tersebut, dengan fokus pada pesan-pesan terkait komunikasi forensik yang disampaikan dan diinterpretasikan dalam film. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi komunikasi forensik dalam film "Ice Cold" dengan menggunakan pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah paradigma konstruktivis dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara, dan studi pustaka. Subjek penelitian adalah film "Ice Cold," sementara objek penelitian mencakup simbolisme kopi, analisis tanda forensik, representasi visual, dialog, dan konteks sosial dalam film. Data primer diperoleh melalui observasi langsung terhadap film, sedangkan data sekunder berasal dari literatur terkait.Tahap analisis data melibatkan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi data. Keabsahan data diuji melalui triangulasi teknis dan triangulasi pengamat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Makna denotasi menunjukkan proses komunikasi forensik secara detail melalui gestur, ekspresi, dan presentasi bukti ilmiah yang objektif, menggambarkan akurasi proses forensik dalam film. (2) Makna konotasi menggambarkan kompleksitas, tekanan, dan ketidakpastian dalam proses forensik serta dampaknya terhadap persepsi dan reaksi emosional karakter. (3) Film ini mengangkat berbagai mitos masyarakat tentang proses hukum dan forensik, seperti kepastian absolut dari bukti ilmiah dan transparansi investigasi. (4) Proses forensik tidak hanya tentang menemukan kebenaran faktual, tetapi juga mempertahankan integritas, ketelitian, dan kejujuran dalam pengungkapan bukti. (5) Representasi dalam film mempengaruhi pemahaman masyarakat tentang kompleksitas dan tantangan proses forensik, mendorong pemahaman yang lebih mendalam dan kritis terhadap proses investigasi kriminal.

Abstract. Book is one of media that used to perpetuate a phenomenon in a form of literature that still relevant and accessible as a reference for the next generation. Book is also defined as a number of written messages that contain many messages and have a meaning for the wider community and designed to provide public knowledge about something and written in materials that not easily get damaged and easy to carry on. The purpose of this study is to find out the representation of investigative journalism on Don’t Read This: Catatan Melodic Punk Bandung dari Masa ke Masa as a documentation of local scene music, also the reason why Don’t Read This: Catatan Melodic Punk Bandung dari Masa ke Masa included as investigative journalism products. This study uses Robert K. Yin’s case study due to the harmony of his ideas in validating the results of this study. Abstrak. Buku adalah salah satu media untuk mengabadikan suatu fenomena dalam bentuk literatur yang menjadi sarana referensi yang dimuat dalam bentuk fisik serta dapat diakses kembali oleh generasi mendatang. Buku juga diartikan sebagai sejumlah pesan tertulis yang memuat banyak pesan dan memiliki arti bagi masyarakat luas, buku dicanangkan untuk memberi pengetahuan publik tentang sesuatu serta dicatat dalam bahan yang tidak mudah rusak dan mudah dibawa. Tujuan studi ini adalah untuk mengetahui representasi jurnalisme investigasi dalam buku Don’t Read This: Catatan Melodic Punk Bandung dari Masa ke Masa sebagai pengarsipan fenomena musik di kota Bandung. Posisi buku Don’t Read This: Catatan Melodic Punk Bandung dari Masa ke Masa, serta alasan mengapa buku Don’t Read This: Catatan Melodic Punk Bandung dari Masa ke Masa termasuk dalam produk jurnalisme investigasi. Studi ini menggunakan teori studi kasus Robert K. Yin dikarenakan keselarasan gagasannya dalam mengabsahkan hasil penelitian ini.

Abstract

In the September 16-22, 2019, edition of Tempo, the magazine cover was shown painting a picture of President Joko Widodo’s face with his long nose like a Pinocchio wooden doll. One year later, Tempo republished the magazine cover by displaying a picture of the same figure, namely Pinocchio. But this time in the background of the DPR plenary session on the 11-25 October 2020 edition. This study examines the sign's meaning, the repetition factor in the sign, and the attractiveness of the Tempo magazine cover. The qualitative research method used in this research is the semiotic approach of Charles Sanders Peirce. This research produces a representation of meaning on the two covers, a form of people’s disappointment in public officials for the discrepancy between their words and actions. The factor of repetition of the “Pinocchio” sign that occurs on both covers based on data and facts is found repeatedly. The attractiveness of the Tempo magazine cover includes characteristics, point of view, and target audience, and this attraction results in a business strategy for Tempo magazine.

Abstract

Abstrak. Dalam situasi bencana, jurnalis dianggap mempertaruhkan keselamatannya karena harus melakukan peliputan di zone berbahaya. Penelitian ini mencoba memandang jurnalisme kebencanaan dalam perspektif jurnalis yang memaknai profesionalitasnya ketika melakukan peliputan bencana yang membahayakan keselamatannya. Maka penelitian ini melakukan pendekatan fenomenologis pada jurnalis yang memaknai diri dan profesinya ketika situasi bencana. Pengumpulan data primer dilakukan dengan melakukan wawancara kepada 30 jurnalis dan juga FGD kepada beberapa jurnalis sebagai informan yang memiliki pengalaman pernah melakukan peliputan di lokasi bencana. Penelitian melakukan analisis dengan mencoba menemukan pemaknaan jurnalis dalam meliput bencana secara holistik. Melalui analisis fenomenologis interpretatif (IPA), penelitian mencoba mengeksplorasi bagaimana jurnalis memahami profesinya ketika bencana. Hasil penelitian menghasilkan kategorisasi motif, pengalaman, dan makna jurnalis. Informan mengemukakan sejumlah motif, yakni advokasi dan profesionalitas. Kemudian adanya pengalaman keterancaman pada jurnalis. Pemaknaan diri jurnalis terhadap profesinya perlu didukung oleh regulasi yang dapat menjamin keselamatan jurnalis ketika peliputan di daerah bencana. Abstract. In a disaster situation, journalists are considered to be risking their safety because they have to cover in a dangerous zone. This study tries to view journalism in a disaster situation from the perspective of journalists who interpret their professionalism when covering a disaster that endangers their safety. Therefore, this study uses a phenomenological approach to journalists who interpret themselves and their profession during a disaster situation. Primary data collection was conducted by interviewing 30 journalists and also FGDs with several journalists as informants who have experience covering disaster locations. The study conducted an analysis by trying to find the meaning of journalists in covering disasters holistically. Through interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA), the study tried to explore how journalists understand their profession during a disaster. The results of the study produced a categorization of motives, experiences, and meanings of journalists. Informants put forward a number of motives, namely advocacy and professionalism. Then there is the experience of being threatened by journalists. The meaning of journalists' self-interpretation of their profession needs to be supported by regulations that can guarantee the safety of journalists when covering disaster areas

Abstract

The evolution of smartphone technology has instigated significant shifts in journalistic culture. Both consciously and subconsciously, a multitude of television journalists have embraced mobile journalism (MoJo), especially for correspondents or journalists in the regions. This study aims to elucidate the impact of technological determinism on television journalists and how it fosters a distinctive MoJo work culture. Using a case study methodology, the research integrates observations and interviews with 35 television journalists who have engaged in mobile journalism. Data analysis focuses on four primary areas: technological determinism within journalists in the realms of reductionism, monism, neutralization, and technological imperatives. The research findings suggest that the adoption of MoJo does not obliterate the existing journalistic culture but serves as an alternative avenue for generating diverse and creative news content. The use of technology is inherently tied to the user, highlighting the need for enhanced moral considerations in its application. While the ease of technology facilitates reporting, journalists continue to uphold the content of their reports and maintain their professionalism. The evaluation of the MoJo concept in Indonesia should be supported by product regulations and standardization to ensure it does not become conflated with content creator practices.

Abstract

The proliferation of false information and hoaxes is significantly fueled by the rapid spread of unverified content on social media. This phenomenon poses a challenge to public trust and information integrity, underscoring the need for effective countermeasures. Journalism, particularly at the regional level, plays a crucial role in combating misinformation. This study investigates the role of local media, specifically Radar Tasikmalaya, a prominent news outlet in West Java, in addressing and countering hoaxes originating within its geographical area. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, this research explores how regional journalism functions as a countermeasure to misinformation. Data collection involved in-depth interviews with Radar Tasikmalaya editors, observations of journalistic practices, and a documentation study of published news. Interviews provided insights into the editorial strategies and responsibilities assigned to journalists, while observations highlighted the reporting processes. The documentation study complemented these findings by analyzing how published content addresses and clarifies circulating hoaxes. The study finds that Radar Tasikmalaya plays a proactive role in maintaining information accuracy by assigning journalists the responsibility of fact-checking and clarifying misinformation. When erroneous information is identified, journalists are expected to promptly verify and correct it through their reports. This approach not only enhances public trust in the media but also underscores the journalists' social responsibility to provide accurate and reliable information to the community. Fenomena ini menjadi tantangan bagi kepercayaan publik dan integritas informasi, yang menekankan perlunya langkah-langkah penanggulangan yang efektif. Jurnalisme, terutama di tingkat regional, memainkan peran penting dalam melawan misinformasi. Penelitian ini menyelidiki peran media lokal, khususnya Radar Tasikmalaya, sebuah media berita terkemuka di Jawa Barat, dalam menangani dan melawan hoaks yang berasal dari wilayah geografisnya. Dengan pendekatan studi kasus kualitatif, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi bagaimana jurnalisme regional berfungsi sebagai langkah penanggulangan terhadap misinformasi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan editor Radar Tasikmalaya, observasi praktik jurnalistik, dan studi dokumentasi berita yang telah diterbitkan. Wawancara memberikan wawasan mengenai strategi editorial dan tanggung jawab yang diberikan kepada jurnalis, sementara observasi menyoroti proses pelaporan berita. Studi dokumentasi melengkapi temuan ini dengan menganalisis bagaimana konten yang diterbitkan menangani dan mengklarifikasi hoaks yang beredar. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa Radar Tasikmalaya berperan proaktif dalam menjaga akurasi informasi dengan menugaskan jurnalis untuk melakukan pengecekan fakta dan mengklarifikasi misinformasi. Ketika informasi yang salah teridentifikasi, jurnalis diharapkan untuk segera memverifikasi dan mengoreksi melalui laporan mereka. Pendekatan ini tidak hanya meningkatkan kepercayaan publik terhadap media, tetapi juga menekankan tanggung jawab sosial jurnalis dalam menyediakan informasi yang akurat dan dapat dipercaya bagi masyarakat. Abstract

The comment section feature on social media serves as a public space for discussion, especially on news accounts. However, discussions often become a means of spreading hate speech and even hoaxes. The concept of tabayyun, as an approach rooted in verification and the search for truth, is very important in encouraging responsible discussion. This study aims to identify communication patterns that may spread misinformation and how this can be addressed through the application of tabayyun. A qualitative methodology was employed using a netnographic approach, with data collected through online data capture techniques from January 2023 to February 2024, comprising 923 posts. The analysed data was then used to draw conclusions that could serve as guidelines for developing tabayyun communication strategies in managing the overwhelming flow of information. Findings indicate that on the accounts of @pikiranrakyat and @republikaonline, the balance between positive and negative news coverage regarding the three candidate pairs is relatively balanced. Negative news, tends to generate a significant number of comments, creating space for active discussion among netizens, with comments that indicate hate speech. In Islam, the tabayyun communication pattern can create social responsibility to clarify and verify the information presented, whether by administrators or other netizens.

Abstract

Abstrak. Industri Media di Indonesia kini harus memiliki strategi kreatif untuk dapat bertahan di era digital. Pikiran Rakyat sebagai industri media memiliki strategi dalam mengembangkan industri pemberitaan di media online, yakni dengan menerapkan konsep sistem ekonomi kolaboratif. Penelitian ini melakukan pendekatan studi kasus untuk mendapatkan bagaimana risiko pada pengembangan sistem ekonomi kolaboratif pada industri media dan mengapa sistem ekonomi kolaboratif dapat menjadi alternatif dalam manajemen industri media di era digital. Penelitian melakukan observasi dan wawancara pada industri media Pikiran Rakyat Media Networks (PRMN) yang telah menerapkan sistem dengan menerapkan kemitraan pada media subdomain di berbagai daerah di Indonesia. Pengumpulan data pada 20 pemimpin redaksi 10 editor yang merupakan redaksi media yang tergabung sebagai mitra PRMN.  Analisis melalui teori manajemen krisis dan industri media menemukan bahwa pada sistem ekonomi kolaboratif ditemukan upside risk dan downside risk yang dapat menjadi peluang dan tantangan dalam penerapan sistem ini di industri media. Penetapan regulasi yang sesuai masih perlu dievaluasi. Sistem ekonomi kolaboratif memunculkan content creator yang menggantikan jurnalis juga berisiko pada kualitas informasi dan berita yang dihasilkan dan berisiko pada reputasi Pikiran Rakyat sebagai domain utama yang terdaftar pada Dewan Pers. Abstract. The Media Industry in Indonesia must now have a creative strategy to survive in the digital era. Pikiran Rakyat as a media industry has a strategy in developing the news industry in online media, namely by applying the concept of a collaborative economic system. This research takes a case study approach to get how the risks in the development of collaborative economic systems in the media industry and why collaborative economic systems can be an alternative in media industry management in the digital era. The research conducted observations and interviews in the media industry Pikiran Rakyat Media Networks (PRMN) which has implemented a system by implementing partnerships on subdomain media in various regions in Indonesia. Data were collected from 20 editor-in-chiefs and 10 editors who are editors of media that are members of PRMN partners.  Analysis through crisis management theory and the media industry found that in the collaborative economy system there are upside risks and downside risks that can be opportunities and challenges in implementing this system in the media industry. The determination of appropriate regulations still needs to be evaluated. Abstract

Abstract. This study is titled The Influence of YouTube Social Media on Political Participation Among Students (A Simple Linear Regression Study on the Influence of Political Content on the @Pandji.Pragiwaksono YouTube Account on the Political Participation of Fikom Universitas Islam Bandung Students Class of 2021 Who Watch Pandji Pragiwaksono's Content). The study employs the media exposure theory, which encompasses the dimensions of frequency, attention, and duration. The method used is simple linear regression analysis to measure the causal relationship between YouTube social media as the independent variable and student political participation as the dependent variable. Data analysis includes descriptive tests, classical assumption tests, simple linear regression tests, t-tests, and the coefficient of determination, conducted using SPSS version 25. The research population comprises 314 Fikom Unisba students from the Class of 2021 who have watched content on the @Pandji.Pragiwaksono YouTube channel, with 76 respondents selected through a survey targeting Class of 2021 students in Universitas Islam Bandung’s Faculty of Communication (Fikom) who watch Pandji Pragiwaksono's content. Data was collected using an online questionnaire. The findings show that the frequency, attention, and duration of media exposure significantly influence students' political participation, as evidenced by the t-value being greater than the t-table value. These findings highlight that YouTube political content can enhance political awareness and engagement among young people. This study provides insights for content creators to develop more effective social and political issue-based materials. Abstrak. Penelitian ini berjudul Pengaruh Media Sosial YouTube terhadap Partisipasi Politik pada Mahasiswa. Studi ini menganalisis pengaruh konten politik di akun YouTube @Pandji.Pragiwaksono terhadap partisipasi politik mahasiswa Fikom Universitas Islam Bandung Angkatan 2021 yang menonton kontennya. Penelitian menggunakan teori terpaan media (frekuensi, atensi, dan durasi) serta metode regresi linier sederhana untuk mengukur hubungan antara YouTube sebagai variabel independen dan partisipasi politik sebagai variabel dependen. Analisis data mencakup uji deskriptif, asumsi klasik, regresi linier sederhana, uji-t, dan koefisien determinasi menggunakan SPSS versi 25. Populasi penelitian adalah 314 mahasiswa Fikom Unisba Angkatan 2021, dengan 76 responden yang dipilih melalui survei daring.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa frekuensi, atensi, dan durasi terpaan media berpengaruh signifikan terhadap partisipasi politik mahasiswa, dibuktikan oleh nilai t-hitung yang lebih besar dari t-tabel. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa konten politik di YouTube dapat meningkatkan kesadaran dan keterlibatan politik generasi muda. Penelitian ini memberikan wawasan bagi pembuat konten untuk mengembangkan materi berbasis isu sosial dan politik yang lebih efektif.
