Abstract

Food insecurity caused by poverty is a global issue that requires attention and solutions. In response, food banks, as non-profit organizations coordinating the distribution of surplus food, offer a potential solution to hunger and food insecurity. In practice, food banks have mechanisms and goals similar to Zakat, Infaq, and Sadaqah (ZIS) in Islam. However, in some aspects, food banks have not fully addressed the application of Islamic principles, particularly concerning the halal status of food. Therefore, the concept of an Islamic food bank is needed as an implementation aligned with maqasid shariah principles. Maqasid shariah, which includes the protection of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and wealth, was further developed by Jamaluddin Athiyyah, providing an ethical and legal framework for social activities like food banks. This study aims to identify how food banks can contribute to social welfare through fair and effective food distribution, and how Islamic principles can ensure justice, transparency, and accountability in their management, in line with the maqasid shariah goals according to Jamaluddin Athiyyah's perspective. The analysis evaluates general food bank practices, assesses their alignment with maqasid shariah, and offers recommendations for improving sustainability. This research employs a qualitative approach with a literature review method. The findings show that food banks implemented in accordance with maqasid shariah not only meet food needs but also strengthen social networks, improve the overall quality of life, and provide peace of mind for Muslim communities.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: In financial statements, there is some data information needed to assess a company's financial performance. The study aimed to analyze the influence of financial performance assessments using EVA and MVA on abnormal returns of shares in tourism sub-sector companies listed in Indonesia Sharia Stock Index (ISSI) during the period 2018-2020. Background Problems: Although many previous studies have measured financial performance using the EVA and MVA methods, there is still limited use of EVA and MVA methods in tourism sector companies particularly listed in Islamic stock exchange. Novelty: The concept of economic value added (EVA) and market value added (MVA) become an alternative to performance measurement. Research Methods: This research is descriptive quantitative research with secondary data used as data collection technique. Dependent variable is abnormal stock return while independent variables used were EVA and MVA. Data was retrieved from Indonesian stock exchange web and 17 tourism sub-sector companies registered with ISSI during the period 2018-2020. Panel data regression with E-views tool employed as analysis technique. Finding/ Results: The study found that the coefficient sign for the EVA is positive and insignificant, while MVA is significant in affecting abnormal stock return. This indicates increasing in MVA will be causing increasing in abnormal return stock. Simultaneously, EVA & MVA have influence on abnormal stock return of the studied companies in Indonesia. The study suggests that investors can might consider MVA as an important factor in decision before purchasing their potential stock, also consider the importance of MVA impact on abnormal return as the basis of government’s related policy determinant.

Abstract

Islamic banking is struggling in maintaining it in the financial industry by adhering to sharia principles. The development of Islamic banking continues to increase, starting from the performance, products, and other services. However, there are some problems in Islamic banking such as the murobahah financing which still supports the approval of Islamic banking and the lack of public understanding of about Islamic finance products. The research method used in this study through a qualitative approach to the form of stages of observation, interviews with practitioners and academics to complete the data and data documentation. To achieve valid results, interviews were conducted using purposive sampling techniques. This research reveals that in general the main purpose of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah according to the agreement of the scholars is to achieve maslahah. To see the above, the maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah model is one model that can measure the performance of Islamic banking with a conception based on Islamic scholars. The three main points that become aspects of the benchmark are Tahdhib al-Fard (Educating individuals), Iqamah al-`Adl (Establishing justice) and Jalb al-Maslahah (Promoting Welfare).

Abstract

Today's environmental issues require quick and precise handling. Although it is not the leading actor of natural damage, the banking sector must still practice sustainable development without releasing its function as a profit institution. This study uses a quantitative method with content analysis on the annual report and the Sustainability Report of 10 Islamic banks, which were sampled using purposive sampling as the sampling technique—data analysis techniques using panel data analysis. The results of the study are partially mixed results. Green Banking and environmental performance variables each negatively affect the Net Income variable, with each t value lower than the t table value and a significance value greater than 0.05. In contrast, the effect between the ESG Disclosure variable and the Net Income variable is positive and significant. This results is similar to the simultaneous test results. Simultaneously, the Green Banking, ESG Disclosure, and Environmental Performance variables have a positive and significant effect on the Net Income variable. It can be concluded that if Islamic Banking wants to achieve an optimal level of profitability while in line with sustainable development practices, then Islamic Banking can strive for these three elements simultaneously. That is, carrying out Green Banking practices, disclosing ESG practices, and maximizing environmental performance.

However, NPF is often a problem faced by BMT. The purpose of this study is to analyse the issue of NPF in Islamic MFIs in Indonesia. The study also examines strategies to address issue of NPF in Islamic MFIs in Indonesia. To achieve the research objectives, the method used is through a qualitative approach with Analytic Network Process (ANP) used to be as analysis technique. Primary data sources were obtained through forum group discussions (FGDs) and pair-wise questionnaires and interviews with 10 respondents who are considered experts in related fields. The results of this study indicate that based on the ANP results internal management issue as main problem that causes NPF occur, followed by internal human resource issues, debtor/customer issues and regulatory issues. Main priority of the settlement strategy of NPF include strategy of improving internal management by improving internal human resources, then increasing sharia literacy, and government policy. The study suggests as the issues on internal management is in top rank, the Islamic MFIs should improve internal management elements including enhancing accountability and conducting professional administration.
