Abstract

This paper investigates the connections between the Jacobson graph and the algebraic properties of rings through the analysis of the Jacobson graph of the ring \mathbb{Z}_{3p}, where p is a prime number greater than 3. The Jacobson graph of a commutative ring R is constructed by taking the elements of R, excluding its Jacobson Radical, as vertices, and connecting two distinct vertices if 1 minus their product is not a unit in R. The F-Index is utilized to capture and represent the structural properties of the ring through its associated graph. A detailed examination of the Jacobson Radical, maximal ideals, and vertex degrees in \mathbb{Z}_{3p} leads to the calculation of the F-Index, providing insights into the graph’s connectivity and underlying algebraic structure. This study contributes to the intersection of algebra and graph theory, offering a foundation for further research into more complex algebraic structures.

Abstract

Islamic banking emerged as a response to the limitations of interest-based financial systems, offering alternative models rooted in Shariah principles—chief among them the profit-and-loss sharing (PLS) mechanism. This study re-examines the implementation of PLS in Islamic banks, identifying key challenges and outlining directions for future research within the framework of Shariah-compliant financial practices. Employing a systematic literature review of Scopus-indexed journal articles, the study compares theoretical foundations and empirical evidence surrounding PLS applications in contemporary Islamic banking. Findings indicate that PLS practices remain only partially aligned with Shariah principles, constrained by insufficient regulatory oversight, heightened credit risk, and moral hazard concerns. The study also identifies critical gaps in community awareness and operational management, underscoring the need for product innovation, stronger governance structures, and targeted educational initiatives. These insights point to three strategic priorities for stakeholders: enhancing governance to mitigate moral hazards, integrating macroeconomic policy support to improve PLS scalability, and expanding public education to close knowledge gaps. Together, these measures can support a more sustainable, equitable, and competitive Islamic banking sector.

Abstract

This study presents a comparative analysis of waqf regulation, governance, management, and innovation in Muhammadiyah (Indonesia), Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam. The aim is to identify similarities and differences in their waqf systems and evaluate how governance and innovation impact community welfare. A qualitative library research approach was used, focusing on waqf-related regulations, management structures, and asset development strategies. Muhammadiyah manages waqf independently through internal institutional policies, guided by Law No. 41 of 2004. In Malaysia, waqf is regulated by the State Islamic Religious Councils (Majlis Agama Islam Negeri, MAIN), which promote corporate-based management such as property development and Sharia-compliant investments, exemplified by the Selangor Waqf Corporation (Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor, PWS). Brunei Darussalam centralizes waqf under the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kementerian Hal Ehwal Ugama, KHEU), with strict regulations and strong state support for Islamic economic empowerment. In terms of innovation, Malaysia demonstrates a more advanced corporate waqf model with productive asset management, while Brunei prioritizes centralized stability. Muhammadiyah continues to adopt new models such as cash waqf and Islamic investments, though improvement is still needed in professional asset governance and transparency. This research introduces a novel comparative framework by analyzing multi-country waqf governance and applying the concept of Good Waqf Governance, including transparency, accountability, and efficiency. Unlike previous studies that examined isolated cases, this paper maps cross-national governance strategies and their socio-economic outcomes. Furthermore, it highlights Malaysia’s and Brunei’s potential as models for Muhammadiyah’s reform. One key recommendation is to integrate Malaysia’s corporate waqf framework into Muhammadiyah’s waqf strategy to enhance long-term sustainability and economic returns. The study contributes to the discourse on Islamic philanthropy by offering scalable strategies for revitalizing waqf institutions in the Muslim world.

Abstract

Introduction: This systematic literature review provides an overview of profit and loss sharing (PLS) in the Indonesian Islamic banking industry. The study aims to identify the development of Islamic banking, as well as the challenge and opportunities of PLS products and services in Islamic banking Methods: This research utilizes a systematic literature review methodology employing a qualitative approach, using databases, including SINTA and Google Scholar, to identify relevant articles and studies. A total of 609 journal articles were initially identified. Results: The findings of the study indicate that the Indonesian Islamic banking industry has experienced significant growth in recent years. However, the market share of Islamic banks in Indonesia is still relatively small compared to conventional banks. The development of PLS products and services has been a key factor in this growth Conclusion and suggestion: The study concludes that PLS is an important feature of Islamic banking and has numerous opportunities to be targeted. Meanwhile, PLS Scheme has challenges and negative potential for Indonesian Islamic banking. Hence, because of this negative potential, high risk, and competitiveness issue. However, Further investigation is warranted to delve into empirical research studies that examine the potential of profit and loss sharing as well as revenue sharing mechanisms within Islamic banking, along with their implications for the Indonesian economy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the BI Rate, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Residential Property Price Index (RPPI), and Indonesia Sharia Stock Index (ISSI) on the mortgage financing of Islamic banks in Indonesia. The objective of this research is to provide recommendations for the government in formulating macroeconomic policies that facilitate public access to Islamic mortgage financing. This research employs a quantitative approach using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method, processed with E-Views 12. Data were sourced from Islamic Banking Statistics by OJK, Bank Indonesia, Kemendagri, BPS, and CEIC for the 2014-2024 period. The findings indicate that in the short term, the BI Rate and GDP have a significant positive influence, while RPPI has a significant negative influence on Islamic mortgage financing. Conversely, ISSI shows no significant influence in the short term. In the long term, only GDP has a significant positive impact on Islamic mortgage financing, whereas the BI Rate, RPPI, and ISSI exhibit no significant effects. These findings provide critical insights into the dynamics of macroeconomic variables affecting Islamic mortgage financing and their implications for economic policy formulation.

Abstract

Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT) is a microfinance institution operating under Sharia principles, integrating social welfare and commercial finance to promote poverty alleviation and economic empowerment. Despite its potential, BMTs face significant capital challenges that hinder their sustainability and impact. This study explores these challenges using a qualitative methodology with a literature review approach. Six key issues are identified: (1) limited capital from low member savings, (2) inadequate accumulation of social funds, (3) mismatch between available funds and customer needs, (4) reliance on external funding, (5) low business volume, and (6) weak integration between the social (Baitul Maal) and commercial (Baitul Tamwil) functions. These issues restrict BMTs from fully achieving their financial inclusion and social welfare objectives. To address these challenges, the study suggests optimizing low-cost funds, managing cash waqf, strengthening Baitul Maal, collaborating with zakat institutions, and integrating Islamic social finance with commercial operations. Additionally, increasing principal and mandatory savings is recommended to improve capital stability. Resolving these issues is essential for enhancing BMTs' role in poverty alleviation and ensuring their long-term sustainability and effectiveness within the Islamic finance framework.

Abstract

This research measures the efficiency of waqf funds managed by philanthropic institutions in Indonesia using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach over the 2013-2021 period. The unit of analysis consists of nine philanthropic waqf institutions. In the measurement of efficiency, the study takes human resource expenses and operational costs as inputs and collection and distribution of waqf funds as outputs. The findings indicate that the efficiency of philanthropic organizations in handling waqf funds varies from year to year between 2013 and 2021. The paper also notes that the Covid pandemic has no substantial impact on the efficiency of the waqf institutions. Interestingly, regional institution clusters are more efficient than mass organization and national institution clusters.
