Abstract

The study aims to investigate the importance of infusing SSI (Socioscientific Issue) into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)-based Biotechnology learning by capturing the perceptions of students in Natural Science and Social Science. This is intended to make learning more effective because it helps students to achieve the comprehension of the material being taught. The research apply mix methods by capturing quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data are collected from the percentage of answers from 291 students who have filled out quizzes through online surveys. While qualitative data is collected from garnering students’ answers through unstructured interviews. The results showed that students of Natural Science discussed biotechnology more technically and normatively resulting in product effects, while students of Social Science focused more on the policy and risk aspects of biotech products. It is the difference in perception between the two majors that requires the SSI approach to be infused into the STEM approach. The benefits of such infusionare improved students' HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills), which is in line with the current learning trend of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Abstract

Metacognition refers to the capacity for supervising, arranging, and directing the process of learning, while argumentation skills encompass the aptitude to construct and validate logical points. Proficiency in problem-solving holds a crucial role within the realm of scientific education. This research aims to explore the interconnection between metacognitive skills, argumentation skills, and problem-solving abilities in the domain of biology education. Employing a correlational research design, the investigation encompassed 118 students engaged in biology studies within the University of Jember's Biology Education Study Program during the academic term of 2022/2023, specifically within the Introduction to Education Science course. The research instrument utilized was a survey featuring 10 queries for each category—metacognitive skills, argumentation skills, and problem-solving abilities. Statistical analysis involved inferential methods, particularly multiple linear regression correlation. The findings unveiled a positive correlation between students' metacognitive skills and argumentation skills and their adeptness in problem-solving within the context of biology learning, signified by a noteworthy p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This finding shows the importance of developing metacognitive skills and argumentation skills in improving students' problem solving abilities in learning. The implication of this finding can be used to design more effective learning strategies in improving metacognitive skills, argumentation skills and students' problem solving in biology subjects

Abstract

Biology learning is a study of science with complex material, making it difficult for students to understand and reducing their interest and motivation to learn. Therefore, engaging and meaningful learning methods, such as the Brain-Based Learning (BBL) model using the AI Plant Net Identifier media, are needed. This study aimed to determine the effect of the BBL model using the AI Plant Net Identifier media on students' learning interest and argumentative skills. The research method employed a quantitative quasi-experimental method involving two classes: an experimental class and a control class. Data analysis was conducted using ANACOVA tests for learning interest and argumentative skills. Learning interest obtained a significance value of 0.011, while argumentation skills obtained a significance value of 0.000. Thus, it was concluded that the Brain-Based Learning model using the AI Plant Net Identifier media influenced students' learning interest and argumentation skills. The average scores obtained in the experimental and control classes for learning interest were 62.4, categorized as interested, and 57.7, categorized as moderately interested. The average scores for argumentation skills in the experimental and control classes were 71.4, categorized as high, and 60.5, categorized as moderate.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of digital textbooks on Brain-based Learning assisted by animated videos and Maze ChaseWordwall to improve science literacy and learning outcomes of high school students. The media was developed using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The research method used mixed methods, combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Based on the analysis results, digital textbooks on Brain-based learning assisted by animated videos and Maze ChaseWordwalls can effectively improve student learning outcomes and science literacy as indicated by the small-scale and large-scale class learning outcomes that obtained a high category with an N-gain value of 0.81. Furthermore, science literacy skills received an average score in the high category with a value of 86.ABSTRAK: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keefektifan buku ajar digital berbasis Brain-based Learning yang dilengkapi dengan video animasi dan Maze Chase-Wordwall untuk meningkatkan literasi sains dan hasil belajar siswa SMA. Pengembangan media pada penelitian ini menggunakan model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Metode penelitian yang digunakan ialah penelitian kombinasi (mixed methods) yaitu gabungan metode kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat dinyatakan bahwa buku ajar digital dengan Brain-based Learning menggunakan video animasi dan Maze Chase-Wordwalls secara efektif dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar dan literasi sains siswa yang ditunjukkan dengan kategori hasil belajar kelas skala kecil dan skala besar yang memiliki kategori tinggi dengan memiliki nilai N-gain sebesar 0,81, sedangkan hasil kemampuan literasi sains memperoleh skor rata-rata pada kategori tinggi dengan memiliki nilai sebesar 86.

Abstract

Produksi kakao di Indonesia mengalami penurunan. Kerusakan kakao paling besar disebabkan oleh hama serangga, yaitu Helopeltis antonii Sign. yang dapat menurunkan kuantitas produksi hingga 60%. Alternatif insektisida yang dapat digunakan yaitu menggunakan insektisida nabati umbi gadung, karena mengandung senyawa dioskorin dan asam sianida (HCN). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui toksisitas ekstrak umbi gadung terhadap mortalitas nimfa Helopeltis antonii Sign. instar IV. Pembuatan ekstrak umbi gadung menggunakan pelarut etanol 70%. Pengujian dilakukan menggunakan lima serial konsentrasi, yaitu 0,25%, 0,5%, 0,75%, 1%, dan 1,25%. Pengujian masing-masing perlakuan menggunakan 20 ekor nimfa dengan 4 kali ulangan. Tingkat toksisitas diuji menggunakan analisis probit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan LC50 dan LC95 ekstrak umbi gadung terhadap mortalitas nimfa Helopeltis antonii Sign. dalam waktu dedah 48 jam adalah berturut-turut 0,713% dan 1,150%.

Abstract

This study aims to develop e-LKPD based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) using Canva on the respiratory system material of fifth grade elementary school students. The background of this study is based on the low critical thinking skills and learning outcomes of students due to the dominance of lecture methods and limited interactive digital learning media. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The validation results show that e-LKPD is declared very valid by material experts (95%), media experts (89%), and practitioners (100%). The practicality test shows the implementation of learning above 87% and very good student responses above 95%. The effectiveness of the product is evidenced by a significant increase in learning outcomes, with an N-Gain value between 0.71 and 0.73 (high category). In addition, indicators of students' critical thinking skills have increased in all aspects after the implementation of e-LKPD. Thus, the PBL-based e-LKPD using Canva that was developed is declared valid, practical, and effective in improving critical thinking skills and learning outcomes of elementary school students.

Abstract

One of the objectives of regulating the procurement and distribution of silkworm eggs based on the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Number P.37/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/6/2017 is to ensure the fulfillment of the need for quality silkworm eggs in sufficient quantities and continuous. The aim of the research is to develop a silkworm business development strategy in East Java Province. The research was conducted using a quantitative descriptive approach. Data collection was carried out using observation methods, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and surveys. The survey was conducted in 2 ways, namely interviews and filling out questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the Force Field Analysis (FFA) approach, taking into account the driving factors (D) and inhibiting factors (H). The results showed that the main driving factor for the development of the silkworm business in East Java Province was the initiation of silkworm-based educational tourism destinations. On the other hand, the main inhibiting factor was the suboptimal role of the government. The conclusions of the research and policy recommendations based on the consideration of the main driving factors and the main inhibiting factors. The silkworm business development strategy in East Java Province can be implemented by increasing the government's role in formulating policies for the integrated development of silkworm cultivation, aiming for zero waste. This strategy will be complemented by the the concept of educational tourism involving community participation.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are a requirement that needs to be possessed in 21st-century learning. The development of e-modules based on the latest technology that can improve students' critical thinking skills is very important. The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of STEM-based learning e-modules on business and energy to improve critical thinking skills in high school students. Development research using 4D design. The purposive area sampling method resulted in 3 schools, namely SMAN 3 Jember, small and large group trials, distribution school trials, namely SMAN Mumbulsari and SMAN Jenggawah. The test subjects were class X high school students. The results of this research are that STEM-based learning e-modules are declared effective for improving critical thinking skills based on the N-gain value in small group trials of 0.68 in the medium category, large group trials of 0.72 in the high category, and school trials. spread of 0.65 in the medium category. The overall average N-gain value is categorized as moderate.

Abstract

Metacognitive skills are vital for empowering students, especially in subjects like biology that are intertwined with scientific activities. Science process skills are crucial for enhancing the learning process in science. This study aimed to assess the impact of STEM e-modules in Biotechnology on metacognitive and science process skills among students in the industrial agricultural sector, particularly those with low academic proficiency. The research followed a quasi-experimental, non-equivalent control group design with a pretest-posttest research structure. The study population comprised public high schools in Jember, with class XII students from SMAN 1 Jember selected as the sample through cluster random sampling and class equivalence testing using ANOVA. Data collection involved essay tests, and prerequisite tests ensured homogeneity and normality. Hypothesis testing employed a two-way ANCOVA at a 0.5% significance level. The findings revealed that significant differences in metacognitive and science process skills when STEM e-modules were used in Biotechnology material, variations in metacognitive and science process skills based on students' academic abilities, and an interaction between STEM e-modules and academic ability on metacognitive and science process skills. This research suggests exploring the effects of STEM Biotechnology e-modules and academic ability on other dependent variables.

Abstract

Pupuk ZA merupakan pupuk anorganik yang mengandung nitrogen dan sulfur. Nitrogen merupakan unsur hara utama pada pertumbuhan tanaman yang merupakan penyusun protein, sedangkan sulfur merupakan penyusun 21 asamamino pembentuk protein. Protein dibutuhkan oleh Bombyx mori L. untuk metabolisme dalam tubuhnya serta untuk pembentukan kokon. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian pupuk ZA pada tanamanmurbei terhadap kokon ulat sutera alam (B. mori). Tanaman murbei yang diberi perlakuan pupuk ZA berumur 1 bulan dari penanaman, dan digunakan sebagai pakan setelah berumur 3 bulan dari penanaman. Jenis penelitian ini yaitu deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh tanaman murbei yang diberi pupuk ZA terhadap berat kokon (F=8,767, p=0,000) dan diameter kokon (F=2,914, p=0,036). Rerata berat kokon tertinggi yaitu pada P3 (18,75 g/polybag) dengan rerata 1,91 g. Rerata diameter kokon tertinggi pada P3 (18,75 g/polybag) dengan rerata 2,08 cm.
