Abstract

This study aims to describe the translation of representation in understanding the Pythagorean theorem in terms of students' learning styles. Representation has an important role in learning mathematics. Representation as a means of understanding concepts and mathematical thinking and revealing conceptual understanding. The research method uses a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study came from 85 mathematics education students from the State Islamic University of Mataram. The selection of subjects was based on the results of a learning style questionnaire with categories of visual learning style, auditory learning style, and kinesthetic learning style. Data collection techniques used a learning style questionnaire, a Pythagorean theorem test instrument and task-based interviews. This study has proven that students successfully completed the Pythagorean theorem problems because they were able to carry out the translation process from verbal to visual representation and from visual to symbolic. This indicates that understanding concepts and the ability to change information in various forms of representation greatly influence success in solving mathematical problems.

Abstract

Algebraic reasoning plays a role in mathematical thinking. Understanding factor affective of algebraic reasoning is essential for improving mathematics education. This study aims to examine the effect of learning interest and social skills on students' algebraic reasoning. We conducted a quantitative study using a correlational design, employing questionnaires and a test as data collection methods. We selected 202 students from the Islamic state of junior high school in Mataram as a research sample using a simple random technique. The study used an algebraic reasoning test, a learning interest questionnaire, and a social skills questionnaire as research instruments. The data was analyzed using descriptive data and inferential analysis. Descriptive data consist of categorical descriptive and statistical descriptive. Inferential analysis used a multiple regression including prerequisite tests (normality, linearity, multicollinearity and heteroscedasticity) and hypothetical tests using t-test for partial and F-test for simultaneous. The result showed that learning interest has no effect on students algebraic reasoning (t-test =0,055, sig. = 0,957 > 0,05). Meanwhile, the social skills have an effect on students algebraic reasoning (t-test =2,943, sig. = 0,004 < 0,05). In addition, learning interest and social skill simultaneously have an effect on algebraic reasoning (F-test = 4,345, sig. = 0,014 < 0,05). The result also confirmed that learning interest and social skills have a 4,2% of contribution to increasing students algebraic reasoning. To improve the students learning interest and social skill, teacher should be encouraged in designing interactive learning and collaborative learning approaches, such as group discussions, peer tutoring, and cooperative problem-solving.

Abstract

This study seeks to elucidate the impact of self-efficacy on learning motivation and mathematics learning outcomes of seventh-grade students enrolled at a school in Mataram City. Furthermore, it explores the role of learning motivation as a mediating variable in this relationship. Employing a quantitative approach with a correlational design, the study sample comprises 168 individuals, selected through a simple random sampling technique. Data was collected via a questionnaire assessing self-efficacy, learning motivation, and mid-term test scores. The path analysis revealed that self-efficacy exhibited a positive and statistically significant influence on both learning motivation (86.8%) and learning outcomes (21.9%). Conversely, learning motivation did not demonstrate a significant impact on learning outcomes (7.6%) nor did it mediate the association between self-efficacy and learning outcomes. This study underscores the paramount significance of self-efficacy in fostering learning motivation. While increased motivation may not directly translate into enhanced learning outcomes, it necessitates the implementation of more effective learning strategies and teacher support to augment student achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the function of production factors on the agro industry production value in Central Lombok Regency from an islamic economic perspective. It was hypothesized that an increase in production factors such as labor, capital, and raw materials would align with an increase in production value. The research employed a quantitative descriptive approach using secondary data from 2018-2022. The analysis included descriptive statistics, Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR), Pearson correlation, economic ratios, and productivity analysis. The results indicate a very strong correlation among production factors (r=0.944-0.999), with raw materials and production value showing the highest correlation (r=0.999). Labor productivity experienced an average decrease of 0.38% per year, while investment grew by 1.015% annually. The proportion of labor costs was only 4.72% of the production value, indicating a capital intensive characteristic. Raw material efficiency remained stable at 2.42, with value added reaching 58.66%. From an Islamic economic perspective, this industry demonstrates alignment with tawhid, but requires improvements in distributive justice ('adl) and maslahah optimization. This research contributes theoretically to the integration of Islamic economics with industrial analysis and offers practical recommendations for the development of a just and sustainable agro industry.

Abstract

Computational thinking (CT) is a crucial skill for addressing the challenges of the 21st century. This study sought to investigate the impact of the Discovery Learning model on students’ CT abilities, examining the influence of learning models, self-regulated learning (SRL) levels, and their interplay. The research employed a quantitative approach employing a quasi-experimental design involving two Grade 7 classes: an experimental group (n = 26) receiving instruction through the Discovery Learning model and a control group (n = 24) receiving conventional instruction. Instruments included an essay test assessing CT and a Likert-scale questionnaire evaluating SRL. Data were analyzed employing descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney test, and the Kruskal-Wallis test. The findings indicated that the average CT score in the experimental class (67.60) was superior to that in the control class (62.82). However, the Mann-Whitney test revealed that this disparity was not statistically significant (p = 0.151 > 0.05). Although no significant difference was observed when comparing the two learning models collectively, the Kruskal-Wallis test demonstrated a substantial effect of SRL on CT (p = 0.000). Furthermore, a significant interaction was identified between the learning model and the SRL level (p = 0.000). Notably, students with high SRL achieved the highest CT performance within the Discovery Learning group. These findings underscore the efficacy of combining the Discovery Learning model with high levels of student self-directed learning in enhancing computational thinking abilities. This evidence suggests that integrating teaching models with student learning autonomy yields more favorable outcomes.
