Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to improve student activity in learning the human respiratory system using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by audio-visual media in class V of SD Negeri 152/X Sungai Sayang in the 2023/2024 academic year. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted in three cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The data collected included student activity in asking questions, discussing, and expressing opinions. The results of the study showed a gradual increase in student activity. In the first cycle, student activity was still low with a percentage of asking questions of 48%, discussing 60%, and expressing opinions 40%. In the second cycle, student activity increased to 72%, 80%, and 68% for each aspect. At its peak in the third cycle, student activity reached a high category with a percentage of asking questions of 88%, discussing 92%, and expressing opinions 80%. The use of audio-visual media has proven effective in attracting students' attention and facilitating their understanding of the material. In addition, teacher guidance plays an important role in encouraging students to be more confident and active during learning. The conclusion of this study is that the PBL model assisted by audio-visual media is effective in increasing student activity while helping them understand the material in depth. This approach is recommended to be applied to learning in various other subjects that require interaction and conceptual understanding.

Abstract

Outing Class learning is a contextual learning strategy that allows students to gain hands-on learning experiences in a real-world environment. This type of learning is highly relevant within the Independent Curriculum (Curriculum Merdeka), emphasizing flexibility, hands-on experience, and the development of the Pancasila Student Profile. This study aims to describe how Outing Class is implemented as a contextual learning strategy in third-grade elementary school science (IPAS) content and to identify the benefits, challenges, and strategies used by teachers. The study used descriptive qualitative methods using observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that Outing Class increases student motivation, participation, and conceptual understanding, but faces challenges such as safety risks and managing student behavior. Teachers address these challenges through briefings, group division, intensive supervision, and parental involvement. Outing Class learning is effectively implemented within the Independent Curriculum when supported by thorough planning and sound risk management.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of Bantaian Adat local wisdom into the teaching of Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) through the use of an electronic module in elementary schools. The research employed a mixed methods approach with a sequential explanatory design, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches in successive stages. The study involved 40 fourth grade students from classes IVA and IVB, as well as two fourth grade teachers one from the experimental class and one from the control class who participated in interviews. Quantitative data were collected through pre tests and post tests to measure the improvement in students’ learning outcomes after using the Bantaian Adat based electronic module. The results indicated a significant improvement, with an average pre test score of 68.25 and a post test score of 85.40, yielding an N gain of 0.54 (moderate category). Qualitative data were obtained through in depth interviews and classroom observations in both groups, showing that the teacher in the experimental class perceived an increase in student engagement and greater ease in connecting local values with scientific and social concepts. This study emphasizes that the integration of Bantaian Adat local wisdom through an electronic module not only enhances students’ learning outcomes but also strengthens their character and cultural identity in IPAS learning at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and weak learning discipline among fifth-grade students at an elementary school in Muaro Jambi during IPAS lessons. Initial observations and pretest results showed that students’ higher-order thinking abilities were still limited, with an average score of 54.76 and 0% of students meeting the minimum mastery criteria. Learning discipline was also low, indicated by only 4% of students being categorized as good. These conditions encouraged the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model to improve cognitive performance and discipline. This research employed Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected using HOTS tests, observation sheets, and discipline rating scales. The findings revealed a significant improvement: the average HOTS score increased to 66.24 in Cycle I and 82.92 in Cycle II, with learning mastery reaching 92%, and a normalized gain of 0.613. Student discipline also improved, with 96% categorized as good in Cycle II. These results indicate that PBL is effective in enhancing HOTS and learning discipline in IPAS learning.
