Abstract

ABSTRACT The role of the dog as a definitive host for a number of zoonotic parasites has been recognized as a significant public health problem especially strey dog population. In this population, poor levels of hygine and overcrowding, together with the lack of veterinary attention and zoonotic awareness, exacerbates the risk of disease infection. A public service was undertaken on Friday 16th September 2005 in Sanur beach to control the dog parasitic zoonoses. About 30 trey dogs and 31 domesticated dogs were treated with anthelmintic to control the helminth infections. All of strey dogs were clinically in poor condition.

Abstract

Etawah Crossbreed Goat are in demand by farmers because of the variety of products they produce, such as milk, meat, and fur. Coccidiosis is a disease that frequently infects goats in Indonesia and is influenced by host, agent and environment. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and intensity of Eimeria spp infection in etawah crossbreed goat kept in Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency. The number of samples used in this study was 100 feces samples of etawah crossbreed goats in Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency. The design used in this study was cross sectional study. There are two methods of examination carried out, namely qualitative and quantitative methods of examining fecal samples. In qualitative examination using the floating method then the results were analyzed with the chi-square test and quantitative examination using the McMaster method. The results of this study showed that there were 79 samples infected with Eimeria spp. with a prevalence of 79%. The average intensity of Eimeria spp. infection in PE goats in Sukawati District is 740.35 ± 557.05 oocysts/gram. After analysis using chi-square test, it can be concluded that risk factors were not associated with the prevalence of Eimeria spp. infection in PE goats in Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency. Considering the high prevalence of Eimeria spp. infection in PE goats in Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency, it is recommended that farmers increase their concern for cage sanitation and the environment around the cage and routine drug administration.

Abstract

Colibacillosis is a disease caused by pathogenic Escherichia coli bacteria. Infected piglets experience weight loss, stunted growth and if not treated immediately will cause death. A 16-day-old Landrace piglet died with clinical signs of weakness and yellowish white diarrhoea for 4 days. The farmer's population was 25 pigs. Epidemiology showed morbidity of 8%, mortality of 4%, and case fatality rate of 50%. Anatomical pathology examination revealed distended intestines with bleeding and hyperaemic lungs. Bacterial culture of lung and intestinal organs showed positive results of gram-negative Escherichia coli bacteria. The results of parasitological examination of native, sedimentation and floating methods were negative for protozoan and helminth infections. Histopathology showed congestion, haemorrhage and neutrophil-dominated inflammatory cell infiltration in the intestines and lungs, while the brain, heart and liver were congested. Based on all laboratory examination results, the case pig was diagnosed with colibacillosis. Improved sanitation and biosecurity of the barn and barn environment needs to be routinely carried out.

Abstract

Free-range chickens with traditional rearing systems are susceptible to be infected with AI and ND viruses, in fact, the two viruses that are deadly to poultry can occur simultaneously. This report aims to confirm the disease diagnosis and determine the cause of death of native chickens on one farm located in Sayan Village. The native chicken sample used for this case study came from a flock of chickens showing clinical symptoms such as anorexia, swelling around the eyes, and greenish-white diarrhea. There were 17 chickens showing symptoms of illness out of a total population of 30 chickens. Within 1 week, 9 chickens were found dead of out 17 chickens that exhibited illness. The rest of the chicken's condition did not improve after being treated, so it was decided to be taken one chicken to be euthanized and necropsied. Based on the lesion that was examined macroscopically and microscopically, the characteristic lesion led to AI and ND virus infection. Confirmation of the diagnosis of the possibility of AI and ND virus infection was carried out by the microtiter technique HA test and the rapid HI test obtained positive results. In the differential diagnosis examination of the lung and small intestine samples, as well as the feces, it showed that there was no secondary infection by E. coli bacteria or the parasite Eimeria spp. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that native chickens were infected with AI and ND viruses. Therefore, farmers are advised to separate sick and healthy native chickens, vaccinate the entire population and implement biosecurity.
