Abstract

The demand for teachers’ digital literacy competencies has become a worldwide concern in transforming education in the digital era, as technology has become an important part of the teaching and learning process. Therefore, this study aimed to identify how sustainable teacher development impacts teachers’ digital literacy competencies. This study used a qualitative approach with interviews, questionnaires, documentation, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) as instruments to gather data. The findings showed that preschool teachers’ digital literacy improved, particularly in their ability to create digital content for learning. The strategy to enhance preschool teachers’ digital literacy was conducted through a sustainable professional development scheme that placed the teacher community at its center, serving as a medium for teachers to develop their professional abilities. The program focused on three main schemes to improve teachers’ digital literacy skills: (1) self-development through Wakelet training to assist teachers in managing digital content in collaboration with other teachers, (2) conducting research-based learning to improve the quality of learning, and (3) fostering teacher innovation in developing teaching media that integrates technology into learning practices. The results of this study provide a significant contribution to exploring the schemes for preschool teachers’ professional development in improving digital literacy skills. Future research could capture more creative solutions to technical challenges in sustaining teachers’ professional development programs.

Abstract

Indonesian is taught in grades 1-6 of primary school. Learning is divided into lower and upper grades, with a thematic approach and specialized teaching materials The uniqueness is seen in the thematic approach and teaching materials used. Indonesian language learning in the lower grades aims for students to focus on language skills, understand forms and functions, and use them creatively. This study uses qualitative methods to understand social phenomena from the views of participants. Data was collected from students who conducted teaching assistance at Yapita Surabaya Elementary School for three months. The purpose of the study was to determine the impact of the application of the time token learning method on the motivation of students in class 6A. The research sample consisted of 28 students. The learning strategy encourages changes in the motivation of Yapita Elementary School students in class 6A to learn Indonesian. The time token learning model has advantages in motivating students to participate more independently, improving students' communication skills, and helping students develop habits of listening, sharing, contributing, and accepting criticism. However, the disadvantage of this model is that it can only be used for certain subjects and is not suitable for classes with a large number of students. The steps in time token learning involve conditioning the class for discussion, giving each student a speaking coupon, and awarding points depending on the situation. Students who have used their coupons cannot speak.

Abstract

Building children's readiness for learning during the transition from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Elementary School (ES) will help children adapt to the new school environment and will influence their subsequent learning process. This study aims to (1) analyze children's learning readiness from a psychological perspective, and (2) to identify effective strategies to support their transition from early childhood education to elementary school. This qualitative research employed interviews and observations of three early childhood participants (ages 6-8) identified as having high (NA), medium (RA), and low (RD) learning readiness based on indirect questionnaires from 19 first-grade students. The secondary data were obtained from two classroom teachers and the school principal. This study utilized source triangulation (participants, parents, and teachers), technique triangulation (observation and interviews), and time triangulation. The findings indicate that the aspects of physical development and health, approaches to learning, cognition and general knowledge, language and early literacy, and social and emotional development vary among the three respondents. Effective strategies applied to respond to children's learning readiness is focusing on improving the quality of learning by aligning the concepts of early elementary school learning with those of ECE through enjoyable learning processes, instructional adjustments, and parental involvement in the ECE-ES transition. This study provides insights for parents, teachers, and educators in preparing children for the transition, emphasizing cognitive aspects, physical, and socio-emotional aspects. Additionally, recommendations are made for schools regarding the provision of enjoyable learning experiences for students, facilitate teaching at the right level, and ensuring students are well-prepared for subsequent stages of learning through parent involvement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of using Wordwall educational games on the mathematics learning motivation of third-grade students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. The study applied a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation involving 22 students. Three students representing high, moderate, and low motivation levels were selected for in-depth analysis. The findings revealed that the use of Wordwall had a positive effect on improving mathematics learning motivation, with the most significant contributions seen in the indicators of perseverance and interest in learning. Highly motivated students showed improvements across all indicators, moderately motivated students experienced gains in learning interest, while students with low motivation demonstrated initial engagement but still required additional guidance. The design of the "box-opening" and "spinning wheel" games effectively encouraged active interaction and cooperative student participation. These results suggest that Wordwall can serve as a technology-based pedagogical strategy relevant to enhancing student learning motivation. This study also contributes to the growing body of literature on the effectiveness of digital educational media in primary education, particularly in mathematics learning through interactive games. Keywords: Wordwall; learning motivation; mathematics; Madrasah Ibtidaiyah; educational games.
