Abstract

Background: Measles and rubella are infectious diseases caused by viruses. The average number of measles cases found in infancy to four years old was 1.125 cases (41.8%) in 2021, with 366 and 13 cases for East Java and Malang, respectively. To eliminate measles and rubella cases in 2023, the high coverage of measles and rubella (MR) vaccination must be met at least 95%. Since 2021, the Bareng Primary Healthcare Centre in Malang has shown the lowest MR vaccination, with 217 children vaccinated (33.23%).Method: This study used a quantitative research method with observational analysis and a cross-sectional study design with a sample size of 68 people. The sampling technique used was proportionate random sampling. Then, data were done through univariate and bivariate analyses using the Spearman rank correlation test. Results: Based on the univariate results, most respondents were aged 27 to 35 years (55.9%) with secondary education (Senior High School/Vocational School/Islamic Senior High School) (55.9%) and had no income (41.2%). Based on the results of the bivariate analysis, intention and attitude correlated (0.000) with subjective norm (0.000) and perceived control over behavior (0.000). Variables significantly related to mother’s intention in giving measles-rubella vaccination were attitude over behavior, subjective norm, and perception of control over behavior. It is expected that the result of this study could raise the mother's intention to participate in counseling and socialization by providing accurate information about the MR vaccination.

Abstract

Intervensi Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) terbukti dapat menurunkan 860.000 kematian anak akibat kekurangan gizi salah satunya stunting.

Abstract

Background: Cultures, traditions, or habits that exist in society, such as dietary restrictions and wrong eating patterns, can lead to increased nutritional problems, especially in toddlers, which ultimately impacts their growth and development. Low-income family parenting patterns in feeding and primary health care for toddlers can also increase the incidence of stunting in toddlers. This could be the cause of the stunting rate in the Jember Regency, especially in coastal areas. Dietary problems, including stunting, in coastal areas should be less likely to occur because the availability of high-protein animal foods such as fish is quite high, but Curahnongko Village is included in the stunting locus area in Jember Regency. Aims: This research aims to describe the socio-cultural nutrition and parenting styles of toddlers in Curahnongko Village. Methods: The study used qualitative and research methods with a case study approach. Results: The socio-culture during pregnancy in the coastal communities of Jember Regency regarding TTD consumption, routine check-ups, taboos during pregnancy, and visits to midwives are quite good. Socio-culturally during the breastfeeding period, it can be concluded that all informants carried out Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD). Socio-culturally during the feeding period for toddlers, all informants do not give food other than breast milk to babies when they are born. Conclusion: The socio-cultural aspect that appears to influence the occurrence of stunting is during the feeding period for toddlers, namely the frequency of children's snack consumption outside the home.

Abstract

Introduction: The picture book media 'Recognizing the Threat of Smoking' as education about the dangers of smoking for children. The theme used in the picture book media is the danger of smoking, which was appropriately given to children, especially those in grades 4-6 of elementary school, with an age range of 10-12 years old. Objective: The general aim of this research was to test the feasibility of the picture book as a media for educating children about the dangers of smoking. Methods: This research was a research and development study with a qualitative approach conducted in January 2021 in Jember Regency. Data collection was done through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis used Thematic Content Analysis. Results: This picture book consists of 18 pages, created through four stages: starting from the synopsis made directly by the researcher, creating a storyline also done directly by the researcher. Followed by a colleague as an illustrator for creating digital images, and a digital book is also done by the illustrator, then the final stage is printing done by the researcher. Conclusion: The material presented in the picture storybook about the dangers of smoking to children was suitable for children to read, but there were suggestions regarding the exposure of information on the health effects of smoking, which was considered insufficient. It was feared that if the health effects of smoking were only limited to a few diseases, the educational message would be less effective for children, who might think that smoking only causes minor health issues.
