Abstract

The Penimbangan is one of the potential locations for underwater tourism in the Regency Buleleng, by unique dive spot. Planning and sustainable coastal development are essential for the continuity ecosystem, sea, and economy. Fish and coral studies in Penimbangan, District Buleleng, occurred from December 2022 to February 2023. Location observation shared four sites of data retrieval. The determination sites study uses purposive sampling based on the spread of coral naturally. Data was collected by Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) for coral and Underwater Visual Census (UVC) for fish. Transect area coral 50m long with quadratic transect (58cmx44cm), and classified categories using CPCe software. Transect area fish of 350 m2 (length 70 m, limit right and left 2.5 m), identified fish to level species. The most studied habitat associations in coral reefs are coral (HC) and fish in coral assemblages. Percentage composition substrate basis in Penimbangan, namely dead coral with algae (106.74), coral (90.27), and sand (70). Lifeform coral is found in as many as ten types; the most are CM (39.00), CE (23.20), and ACS (10.07). A total of 17 families with 70 reef fish species were recorded in this study. The family with the most species is Pomacentridae (25), followed by Chaetodontidae (9) and Labridae (8). The composition of fish will vary according to the type of habitat. Different coral habitats covered by benthic influence the abundance of certain trophic levels of reef fish in an area of water.

Abstract

Betta fish (Betta splendens) has export and import potential. Several popular betta fish strains include halfmoon, crown tail, double tail, and placard. We used the observation method to observe four betta fish strains with five replications. The four fish strains were spawned and will be dissected to obtain the female betta fish's gonads. The parameters observed in this study were fecundity, egg diameter, fertility, and hatchability. This study's data analysis method was analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Duncan's multiple range test. Based on the findings of the observations, it is known that the results of betta fish spawning and gonadal dissection on these various betta fish strains show a significant difference in fish fecundity (P 0.05). However, no significant difference in egg diameter, fertility, or hatchability was observed (P > 0.05). Betta splendes strains differ in terms of fecundity, fertility, hatching rate, and egg size.

Abstract

Tilapia is one of the fish that is widely cultivated in Indonesia. The obstacle to tilapia cultivation is high reproduction, which inhibits growth. An alternative to increase growth is by inhibiting gonad growth, so that feed energy is focused on somatic development. The aim of this research was to analyse the effect of velvet bean extract concentration on individual growth and gonad development of female tilapia fish and to determine the optimum concentration of velvet bean extract to increase growth and reduce reproductive activity in female tilapia fish. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with the addition of various velvet bean extracts and compared with the control (without velvet bean extract). The use of velvet bean extract had a significant effect (p<0.05) on growth parameters such as length, weight, fecundity and egg diameter. The best treatment was found in treatment 3 (velvet bean extract 5 ml.kg-1 ) which resulted in growth in individual length of 16.1 cm, individual weight of 89.43 g, fecundity of 2206 and egg diameter of 1.11 mm. In addition, the dose in this treatment may reduce the reproductive activity of tilapia.

Abstract

Macrognathus aculeatus is a local fish from the Bengawan Solo and Brantas Rivers threatened with extinction. Due to the lack of literacy on the biology of this fish. Biological parameters can be used to determine the condition of this fish in nature. Field observations at five stations from the two rivers were conducted to obtain samples. Biological and reproductive parameters such as weight and length, gonad maturity level (GML), Gonadosomatic Index (GSI), Hepatosomatic Index (HSI), and Condition Factor (CF) were the parameters observed in this study. All data obtained were presented as mean and standard deviation. Furthermore, analysis of variance was conducted using ANOVA (p < 0.05) to determine differences in samples from each observation station. The results showed that some biological factors had significant results (p < 0.05) on Gonadosomatic Index and Hepatosomatic Index). However, there was no significant difference (p > 0.05) in the condition factor. On the other hand, there were significant differences (p < 0.05) in body weight, total length, ovary weight, and fecundity parameters across all sampling sites.

Abstract

Betta fish (Betta splendens) are ornamental fish with a long history of domestication and selective hybridization aimed at enhancing phenotypic variation. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of reciprocal hybridization between crowntail (CT) and doubletail (DT) strains on the phenotypic variation of the offspring. Four breeding combinations were applied: TA (CT♂ × CT♀), TB (DT ♂ × DT ♀), TC (CT♂ × DT♀), and TD (DT♂ × CT♀), representing intra- and inter-strain crosses between crowntail (CT) and doubletail (DT) broodstock. The experiment was conducted for 75 days, from spawning to juvenile rearing. Observed parameters included meristic and morphometric characteristics, coloration, growth performance, and survival rate of the offspring. The results indicated that reciprocal hybridization significantly affected the observed parameters. Male and female offspring from treatments TC (0.99681) and TD (0.99709) showed closer correlations with control TA (CT♂ × CT♀) in meristic characters. In terms of morphometric traits, male offspring from treatments TC (0.99054) and TD (0.98765) were more closely associated with treatment TA, whereas female offspring showed a stronger correlation with treatment TD. Hybridization between crowntail and doubletail white platinum strains produced novel color variations, including platinum-red and platinum-silver phenotypes. Furthermore, the growth performance of reciprocal hybrids differed significantly (p < 0.05) from that of the control groups. These findings demonstrate that reciprocal crossing between crowntail and doubletail strains influences phenotypic expression in offspring.
