Abstract

Purpose - This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Arabic Language Development Program at the University of Darussalam Gontor by reviewing the alignment between institutional objectives, program planning, field implementation, and achieved outcomes within the context of pesantren-based Islamic higher education.Methodology - This research uses a Sequential Explanatory Mixed-Method design, beginning with the quantitative stage through the use of a structured evaluation checklist to assess four components of the CSE-UCLA model (Need Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Outcomes), then continuing with the qualitative stage through semi-structured interviews, observation, and document analysis to explain and validate the quantitative results. The research participants consist of relevant stakeholders in the management and implementation of the Arabic language program, with qualitative data analysis conducted using a thematic approach.Findings - The findings show that the Need Assessment and Planning aspects are in the category of very good, with strong alignment between the institutional vision, program rationale, and curriculum design. However, there is a gap in the Implementation stage, which is influenced by variations in student abilities, the dynamics of academic–pesantren activities, and the limitations of productive assessment instruments. Nevertheless, the summative evaluation indicates that the program has a significant impact on improving students’ academic competence and strengthening the institution's scientific identity.Contribution - This research contributes to the expansion of the application of the CSE-UCLA evaluation model in the context of Islamic higher education, and provides policy recommendations for strengthening performance-based assessment, harmonizing academic–pesantren environments, and improving program quality in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This article examines the development of students’ emotional and spiritual intelligence through leadership education at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor. The pesantren implements a comprehensive educational approach that actively involves students in the learning process. Leadership education is carried out through the rayon management organization, entrusted to fifth-grade KMI students equivalent to eleventh-grade senior high school students. As rayon administrators, students assume continuous leadership responsibilities within a dynamic dormitory environment governed by a distinctive disciplinary system. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, the study finds that direct leadership experience enhances emotional intelligence, including emotional regulation, empathy, communication, and conflict resolution. Spiritual intelligence also develops through routine religious practices and the internalization of Islamic values, strengthening students’ emotional–spiritual balance and leadership character.

Abstract

Through activities in the Student Shop Cooperation Section of the Modern Islamic Boarding School Student Organization (OPPM) of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor Putri 1, this study seeks to examine how female students develop independent character. This study employs a descriptive design and a qualitative methodology. Participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation studies were used to gather data from research subjects, which included administrators, Cooperation advisers, and student shop Cooperation members. Throughout the phases of data condensation, data display, conclusion drawing, and verification, data analysis was done interactively. The study's findings show that an organized student management pattern, which includes organizing, planning, carrying out, and assessing Cooperation activities, helps female students develop independent character. The development of emotional, financial, intellectual, and social independence is facilitated by female students' participation in Cooperation management. The Islamic boarding school's student shop Cooperation serves as both an economic entity and a vehicle for character education grounded in ongoing habituation and real-world experiences. According to the study's findings, integrating student management with Cooperation learning activities is a successful tactic for helping female students develop independent personalities. The results of this study are anticipated to have both practical consequences for the administration of student organizations centered on character formation and theoretical contributions to the advancement of character education studies in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Several educational experts assert that self-regulation is a critical factor influencing students’ academic resilience. This study aims to test that thesis by investigating the influence of self-regulation on the academic resilience of pesantren students. This influence is framed within curriculum development perspective seeing curriculum as the broading meaning comprising list of subjects and learning experiences. The research employed a quantitative approach, utilizing an associative survey method involving 168 second-year female students at Pesantren Gontor Putri, Campus 3, Ngawi, East Java. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The findings revealed that 81 students demonstrated a high level of self-regulation, while 115 students exhibited a high degree of academic resilience. Furthermore, the regression analysis produced a significance value of 0.00, which is below the 0.05 threshold, indicating that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This means, there is an influence of self-regulation on academic resilience among female students at Gontor Putri. These findings underscore the importance fostering students' self-regulation skills as a means to sustain academic resilience within pesantren curricular systems.
