Abstract

Styrofoam food packaging waste is plastic waste that can have a negative impact on the environment. The processing of Styrofoam food packaging waste into heat-absorbing composites is rife because it is a heat insulator and porous. This study aims to determine the porosity characteristics of the thermal properties of styrofoam composites. The process of testing composite morphology using a digital camera is then analyzed using Image-J Software. Composite heating rate and thermal conductivity testing using an electric heater with a temperature of 50ºC for 20 minutes. Composites with the lowest heating rate and thermal conductivity values are produced by porous composites of 0.173 mm2 with 0.52oC/min and 13.086 W/m.K.

Abstract

Styrofoam (Extruded Polystyrene) waste can be used as a soundproofing material. This study aims to determine the effect of the particle composition of Styrofoam and epoxy resin on the performance of soundproofing composites. The composition between Styrofoam particles and epoxy resin is 20:20; 20:30; and 20:50 grams. Sound absorption test using PVC impedance tube 100 cm long, 15 cm diameter, and 5 mm thick. The variation in the placement distance of the composite from the sound source is 25; 50; and 75 cm and was measured using the sound level meter application. This type of test sound uses a single tone in the frequency range of 0-600 Hz which is recorded per 5 seconds. Composite performance analysis is reviewed based on media density, composite morphological characteristics of Image-J software, and sound absorption coefficient values. The results showed that the greater the composition had increased the density value of composite particles accompanied by a decrease in pore area in the composite media which resulted in a sound absorption coefficient of 15.61 dB at a composition of 20:50 with a distance of 25 cm from the sound source.

Abstract

Briquettes are solid fuels derived from biomass waste obtained from the compression of the shaped powdered material. This study aims to obtain the physical characteristics and flame characteristics of leaf briquettes of Javanese bamboo (Gigantochloa Apus) and ori bamboo (Bambusa Arundinacea). The method used in this research is varying the pressing load of 5 kg, 10 kg, 15 kg, and the size of the briquette powder (particles) of 20, 40, 60, a cylinder-shaped mold with a diameter of 38 mm and an inner hole diameter of 9 mm. The analysis includes the characteristics of the fire products (area, color and temperature) and the surface morphology of the briquettes. The pressing load affects the characteristics of the resulting flame. The results showed that the type of bamboo, the size of the biomass particles and the pressing load affected the characteristics of the flame.

Abstract

Flame is a phenomenon of rapid oxidation of an element in a physical and chemical reaction process that produces heat, light, and other chemical products. Flame testing aims to quantify the presence of a particular element through the emission spectrum of each element. In addition, the physical characteristics of the fire object were also observed. ImageJ software is one of the practical supporting applications that is often used for observing flame objects specifically in the fields of chemistry, physics, and energy. Experimental results have shown the level of accuracy of object dimensions and spectrometry with an accuracy rate of 97%. Differences in measurement ranges are often triggered by the image of the object and the foresight of the researcher.

Abstract

Wood chipper machine is a tool used to crush wood waste into powder (particles). This study aims to determine the effect of the distance between the blades and the hopper angle due to wood chipper machine performance. The distance between the blades was varied by 2 mm and 3 mm. The hopper angle was varied by 45o, 50o, and 55o. Measurement of sengon wood particles is done by using wire-mesh with sizes of 1.19 mm, 0.25 mm, and 0.15 mm. The result of the study show that there is an effect of the distance between the blades and the hopper angle due to wood chipper machine performance.

Abstract

Water pollution is a major environment problem. Oil water separator can be used to solve this problem. This research is aimed to get the effect of vertical divider number and fluid flow rate due to oil viscosity. The research is done by experiment using gravity separator. Vertical dividers are varied as 5 and 7. Fluid flow rate is vary as 176,5; 106,6; 53,7 and 33,7 ml/s. Oil 0,5 litre is mixture with 10 litres of water. Oil viscosity is measured with simple flow gravity method. The data is analized statistically using SPSS 17.0. The result shows that vertical divider number and fluid flow rate have effect on oil viscosity.

Abstract

Cooling tower is an equipment that use to decrease water temperature by extracting heat and emitting it to atmosphere. Cooling tower buffle is an important component that effect water flow. This research is aimed to get the effect of cooling tower buffle due to its performance which are range, heat transfer rate and efficiency. The research is done by experiment. Cooling tower buffle are varied in plot angle which are 5o, 10o, 15o dan 20o. Water volume flow rate are varied as 50, 75, 100 and 125 ml/s. Inlet water tempersatur are varied as 50o, 60o and 70oC. The measurements are done for water and air temperature at inlet and outlet points. The result shows that buffle plot angle has effect due to cooling tower performance.

Abstract

The increasing concern regarding microplastic contamination in aquatic environments necessitates effective separation technologies. This study investigates the impact of flow rate on the performance of a dual-inlet hydrocyclone in separating dissolved microplastic waste. The hydrocyclone, known for its centrifugal separation capabilities, is adapted with dual inlets to enhance separation efficiency. Various flow rates were tested to determine their effect on separation performance, focusing on separation efficiency and the classification of successfully separated microplastics. Experimental results indicate that flow rate significantly influences the separation efficiency of the hydrocyclone. Higher input flow rates result in increased pressure drops, with pressure losses ranging from 98-99.59%. The output flow rates at both outlets (O1 and O2) increase proportionally with the input flow rate. The highest microplastic separation occurred at an input flow rate of 70 ml/sec, where the clean side output (O1) had a density of 1.03% with an average particle size of 98 µm. At an input flow rate of 80 ml/sec, the clean side output had a density of 1.28% with an average particle size of 51 µm. This study provides valuable insights into optimizing hydrocyclone design for environmental applications, particularly in reducing microplastic pollution

Abstract

The phenomenon of heat transfer is a science that must be learned by engineering students. Retreading process is one of the heat transfer phenomena in the process of repairing damage to rubber tires in vehicles. This study aims to reveal the effectiveness of the use of the heat transfer practicum module in the retreading process of the inner tube. This type of research is R and D, where the module contains several test parameters which include; surface pressure, heating temperature and time, and dimensions of the patched rubber compound. The 20 respondents selected for this study were mechanical engineering students at PGRI Banyuwangi University. The test includes aspects of the suitability of practical procedures and cognitive abilities in describing the process and mathematical solving of the heat transfer rate for each experimental parameter. The results show that the heat transfer module developed is quite feasible to use, this is based on the results of measuring the satisfaction of respondents in general, assessing it very well with an average of 59.8%. While on the aspect of learning effectiveness, it can be concluded that the practice module is included in the very effective category, where this is shown by increasing the percentage of respondents' abilities which are shown through changes in values before and after the implementation of the module.

Abstract

: The purpose of this research is to examine the utilization of flight simulator in Aviation Vocational School and its impact on increasing the interest and talent of cadets. Simulators have become crucial devices in training prospective pilots and provide real-life experience in facing diverse and complex flying situations. A total of 20 first-year cadets were the respondents in this study. The research method used an experimental study, where performance measurements were taken during the initial test, 5, and 10 hours of simulator usage. The test results showed a linear improvement in flying performance with the duration of simulator usage (calculated t-value > table t-value ranging from 0.375 to 0.530). The respondents experienced a relatively high improvement in performance (55.8%) compared to the first hour of usage (25.2%).
