Abstract

Abstract Wheelchair fencing is an adaptive sport that emphasizes the use of upper limbs in a static sitting position, and to date, there is still relatively limited study examining its physical condition profile comprehensively. This study aims to describe the physical condition profile of elite wheelchair fencing elite athletes based on the main biomotor components. The study method used is descriptive quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The study subjects consisted of 8 athletes, including 5 male athletes and 3 female athletes. Physical condition measurements included shoulder flexibility, shoulder muscle endurance, right and left hand grip strength, hand reaction speed, and aerobic capacity (Aeerobic capacity). Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics in the form of average values. The results showed that Aeerobic capacity values were 43.5 ml/kg/minute in male athletes and 36.1 ml/kg/minute in female athletes. Shoulder flexibility values were 112 cm in male athletes and 63 cm in female athletes, and shoulder endurance was 56 seconds in male athletes and 17.75 seconds in female athletes. In addition, the right hand grip strength value was 44.3 kg in male athletes and 17.1 kg in female athletes, and the left hand was 24.3 kg in male athletes and 18.1 kg in female athletes. The hand reaction value was 150 ms in male athletes and 175 ms in female athletes. The conclusion of the study shows that the physical condition profile of elite wheelchair fencers is at a varying level between biomotor components, with aerobic capacity and grip strength being relatively better than flexibility and reaction speed. These results can be used as a basis for developing a more specific training program and in accordance with the demands of the sport of wheelchair fencing. Abstract

Motor competence plays a fundamental role in supporting the physical, cognitive, and social development of primary school children. However, physical education instruction is still predominantly characterized by conventional, teacher-centered approaches that limit students' active engagement and motor development. This community service program aimed to implement Outdoor Physical Education based on the Joyful Learning framework as a strategy to enhance students' motor competence. The program consisted of needs assessment, school coordination, instructional planning, guided implementation of outdoor game-based learning activities, and evaluation through observation, documentation, and pre- and post-program motor competence assessments. The activities were conducted collaboratively with physical education teachers and primary school students. The findings demonstrated improvements in students' motor competence, active participation, learning motivation, movement coordination, balance, and agility. In addition, teachers enhanced their ability to design innovative, contextual, and student-centered outdoor learning experiences. These results indicate that Joyful Learning-based Outdoor Physical Education is an effective strategy for improving both the quality of physical education instruction and the motor competence of primary school children. The program provides a practical and replicable model that can serve as a best practice for strengthening physical education in primary schools.

Abstract

The success of developing young athletes is determined not only by the quality of training programs but also by parents’ understanding of the importance of structured, continuous, and developmentally appropriate physical training. Preliminary observations among athletes participating in the 2026 Continuous Sports Development Program (POPB) for Water Ski and Wakeboard revealed gaps in the understanding of parents, athletes, and coaches regarding fundamental principles of physical training, recovery strategies, nutritional support, and psychosocial assistance required to optimize athletic performance. This community engagement program aimed to enhance sports parenting literacy and improve athletes’ knowledge of the critical role of physical training in performance development and injury prevention. The program employed a participatory educational approach through seminars, interactive discussions, demonstrations of evidence-based physical training principles, and mentoring sessions involving parents, athletes, and coaches. Program effectiveness was evaluated using a pretest–posttest design to measure changes in participants’ knowledge, complemented by observations of engagement throughout the activities. The results demonstrated improved understanding of training principles, exercise periodization, warm-up and cool-down procedures, recovery strategies, nutritional requirements, and the importance of collaboration among parents, coaches, and athletes in supporting long-term athlete development. Participants also showed stronger commitment to implementing structured training support and positive parenting practices that promote sustainable athletic achievement. These findings indicate that sports parenting education is an effective strategy for strengthening the athlete development ecosystem within the 2026 POPB Water Ski and Wakeboard program through enhanced collaboration among families, coaches, and athletes.

Abstract

Physical condition is a fundamental determinant of success in water ski and wakeboard athletes, as it directly influences athletic performance and reduces the risk of injury during training and competition. Preliminary assessments of athletes participating in the 2026 Jakarta Continuous Sports Development Program (POPB) for Water Ski and Wakeboard indicated that several physical fitness components, including muscular strength, endurance, balance, agility, and core stability, had not yet reached optimal levels, highlighting the need for a structured and evidence-based physical training program. This study aimed to analyze improvements in the physical condition of POPB Water Ski and Wakeboard athletes following the implementation of a systematic physical training program. A quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The participants were POPB Water Ski and Wakeboard athletes who completed the entire training program. Physical condition was assessed before and after the intervention using a battery of tests measuring muscular strength, endurance, agility, balance, flexibility, and core stability. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics to determine changes in physical condition after the intervention. The results demonstrated improvements across all measured physical fitness components, with the greatest gains observed in muscular strength, balance, and core stability. These findings indicate that a structured, progressive, and sport-specific physical training program is effective in enhancing the physical readiness of POPB Water Ski and Wakeboard athletes. Therefore, this training model can be recommended as an evidence-based approach to support long-term athlete development and optimize competitive performance.

Abstract

Background: Successful execution of the Dwi Chagi kick requires rapid reaction time and precise kick placement. Although various training interventions have been developed to improve kicking performance, objective assessment during routine training remains limited because evaluations are still largely based on conventional coach observation. Objectives: This study aims to develop and evaluate an electronic reaction training device for objectively assessing reaction time and Dwi Chagi kick accuracy in junior taekwondo athletes. Methods:  This study employed a modified three-stage Research and Development model consisting of the Define, Design, and Develop phases. The device was designed, prototyped, and evaluated through expert validation involving three nationally certified taekwondo coaches and three sports instrumentation experts. Content validity was assessed using Aiken’s V coefficient, whereas operational performance was evaluated through field testing involving 16 junior taekwondo athletes. Measurement reliability was examined using inter-rater and test–retest Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICC). Results: The developed device demonstrated excellent content validity (Aiken’s V = 0.889) and good-to-excellent measurement reliability (ICC = 0.86-0.91). Field evaluation demonstrated that the system successfully generated randomised visual stimuli, objectively recorded reaction time, and automatically assessed Dwi Chagi kick accuracy, achieving successful detection rates of 82.0% for left-leg kicks and 88.0% for right-leg kicks. Conclusion: The proposed electronic reaction training device demonstrated satisfactory content validity, operational feasibility, and measurement reliability, indicating its potential as a practical tool for objective reaction-time and kick-accuracy assessment during taekwondo training. However, further criterion validation against established reference systems is required before widespread implementation.
