Abstract

Classroom Action Research with the title of improving students' initial reading ability using the problem based learning (PBL) model assisted by word search media began with the low reading ability of students at SDN 060858 Medan. This study aims to find solutions to improve students' reading ability in class I of SDN 060858 Medan by using the problem based learning model assisted by word search media. The data collection techniques used in this study were observation and testing. This research method uses classroom action research consisting of 2 learning cycles. The stages of each cycle consist of 4 stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. After this research was conducted, it was found that each cycle in learning experienced an increase in students' reading ability and attracted students' attention in learning. In cycle I, the average student score was 62.85 with a completion percentage of 47.61%, then in cycle II it increased, namely with an average score of 81.90 with a completion percentage of 85.71%. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the use of word search media in the problem based learning model can improve the reading skills of students in grade I of elementary school

Abstract

Technology in elementary schools is increasingly needed to provide an interesting, meaningful, and modern learning experience. This research examines how integrating barcode scanning with diorama media influences the project skills of fourth-grade students at SB Kepong, Malaysia. Diorama media combined with barcode scans is designed to provide fast and interactive access to additional information, so that students can explore the material in more depth. A quasi-experimental quantitative design with a pretest and posttest control format was applied in this study. The research involved nine fourth-grade students who were organized into two groups. The experimental group learned through diorama media integrated with barcode scanning, while the control group participated in conventional classroom learning. Data collection was carried out using observation sheets to measure students’ project skills and questionnaires to capture students’ learning responses. The findings revealed that the mean pretest score was 20.2%, which later increased to 46% in the posttest. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test yielded a significance value of 0.007, which is below 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. These results suggest that the use of Barcode Scan Diorama as a learning medium significantly enhances students’ interest in science at the Muhammadiyah Kepong Malaysia Guidance Center.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the use of DND (Dividend and Divisor) learning media on the understanding of division material in fifth-grade students of Sanggar Belajar Kampung Baru Malaysia. Mathematics learning, especially on division material, is often considered difficult by students because it is abstract and requires a strong understanding of concepts. Therefore, learning media are needed that can help students understand the concept of division in a concrete and interesting way. This study uses a quantitative approach with an experimental research type and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 11 fifth-grade students. Data collection techniques were carried out through tests and documentation. The research instrument was in the form of multiple-choice questions that had been tested for validity and reliability. The data obtained were analyzed using the Paired Sample t-Test. The results of the study showed a significant increase in student understanding after the use of DND learning media. The average pretest score of 45.45 increased to 81.82 in the posttest. The results of the Paired Sample t-Test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), which means there was a significant difference between learning outcomes before and after the use of DND media. These findings indicate that the Dividend and Divisor learning media is effective in improving students' understanding of the concept of division. Therefore, DND media can be used as an innovative and effective alternative learning medium in elementary school mathematics, particularly for division.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to increase the interest of first-grade students at Gunung Pamah Private Elementary School in learning mathematics, particularly addition and subtraction, through the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. PBL was chosen because this approach involves students in solving real-world problems, encourages active engagement, and builds deep understanding, which is relevant for early childhood education to avoid passive learning. The research used a classroom action research method with two cycles, each comprising the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were first-grade students at Gunung Pamah Private Elementary School. Data were collected through learning interest questionnaires, observation of student behavior, and documentation of activities. Descriptive analysis was performed to identify changes in learning interest between cycles. The results showed a gradual increase in student learning interest: from a low category in the pre-cycle, increasing to moderate in cycle I, and high in cycle II. This shows that PBL is effective in making mathematics learning more interesting and meaningful for lower grade students. This study provides recommendations for teachers to adopt PBL to increase student motivation and prevent learning difficulties in the future.
