Abstract

Dari hasil ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pelatihan ini efektif dalam meningkatkan kompetensi guru bahasa SMA untuk menulis artikel ilmiah berbasis penelitian PTK.Writing scientific papers is an important effort to enhance teachers' capabilities and is a primary requirement for career advancement in Indonesia, as per Government Regulation No. 74 of 2008. However, many teachers face challenges in translating their research findings into scientific articles. Factors such as infrequent writing habits, lack of understanding of writing concepts, limited motivation, time constraints, and a shortage of references hinder teachers in scientific article writing. This community service activity aims to strengthen the competencies of high school language teachers in writing publishable scientific articles. Through exploratory mixed methods training, this activity guides teachers in developing their Classroom Action Research (CAR) findings into scientific articles. Data collected includes pre-training, training, and post-training phases, with activities conducted online to accommodate teachers from various regions in West Java. Pre-training results show that most teachers lack experience in publishing articles. The training sessions, focusing on scientific article writing, involved active discussions about CAR research and challenges in research report writing. The main obstacle faced was related to references. Post-training, teachers successfully produced drafts of scientific articles with faculty guidance. These results indicate that the training effectively improves the competencies of high school language teachers in writing scientific articles based on CAR research findings.

Abstract

The difference between the writing and pronunciation of the final consonants in Korean language has been considered as one of the causes that makes students learning Korean as a foreign language (KFL) find it difficult to pronounce Korean words correctly. This descriptive qualitative study aimed to investigate the beginner students’ pronunciation of the final consonants in Korean. Data were collected from 15 students of the Korean Language Education Department, FPBS, UPI, who were asked to pronounce 10 Korean words with final consonants. PRAAT application was used to analyze pronunciation errors. The results show that the percentage of final consonant error pronunciation is 37%. Based on the analysis, participanting students who have high GPA, knowledge of pronunciation theory, and Indonesian as a native language pronounced final consonants better. The data also shows that students’ knowledge of vocabulary was not always linear with pronunciation realization. It depended on the phonological and morphological environments of the vocabulary. These analysis results were then used to inform the design of our flipped classroom model for the implementation of blended learning on Korean final consonant pronunciation.

Abstract

This study adopts a Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL) approach grounded in Halliday’s theoretical framework to investigate Theme-Rheme structures in the Integrated Korean Language textbooks . This research is significant as prior studies on Korean language textbooks have largely overlooked the interplay between thematic structure and ideological representation, leaving a gap in understanding how discourse patterns contribute to implicit cultural messaging. The primary objective is to examine the deployment of marked and unmarked themes as well as the patterns of thematic progression within narrative and descriptive texts. The data are drawn from Volumes 3 and 4 of the textbooks, which encompass cultural, object-related, and activity-based themes. The findings indicate that the majority of clauses adhere to the Simple Linear Thematic Progression pattern, wherein the rheme of one clause becomes the theme of the subsequent clause, thereby contributing to a cohesive and logically sequenced discourse. In certain instances, Complex Linear Progression patterns were also observed, offering extended elaboration of central ideas. Material and relational processes are predominantly employed to represent actions and identity relationships, illustrating how lexical choices such as verbs and conjunctions function to structure the narrative. Furthermore, the analysis reveals the implicit integration of feminist ideology gender roles within the texts, particularly concerning evolving gender roles in contemporary Korean households. The thematic patterns identified reflect broader social values and ideological transformations embedded in the educational material, conveying underlying messages that promote gender equality and advocate for more equitable social roles. The thematic patterns identified in the texts function not only to organize information but also to foreground specific social actors and actions that align with feminist ideology. By consistently thematizing female subjects, progressive roles, or relational identities, the texts reflect and reinforce broader social values of gender equality and contribute to the ideological transformation toward more equitable gender norms.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the language learning strategies used by students in delivering Korean speeches. The research uses a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, and was conducted in the Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Korea at the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. It involved 21 students who had won Korean speech competitions at both international and national levels, placing from first to fourth. To assess their speaking strategies, the SILL (Strategy Inventory for Language Learning) questionnaire by Oxford (1990) was adapted. Additionally, interviews were conducted to gather more detailed information. The findings show that metacognitive strategies were the most commonly used, with an average score of 3.2, indicating a high usage level. These strategies include self korean speech practice that supports the successful speech delivery. Other strategies also used at high levels include memory strategies (3.1), cognitive strategies (3.0), affective strategies (2.9), compensation strategies (2.7), and social strategies (2.7). This study suggests that Korean language learners aiming for success in speech delivery can apply these strategies.

Abstract

This study discusses the phenomenon of code switching and code mixing in YouTube videos of Yannie Kim, a YouTuber who lives in an Indonesian-Korean bilingual family. Code switching and code mixing are common phenomena in bilingual communities, where individuals use more than one language in one conversation. This study aims to identify the types of code switching and code mixing used in video interactions on Yannie Kim's YouTube channel, as well as to understand the factors that influence their use. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques in the form of watching and taking notes on selected videos from Yannie Kim's YouTube channel. Data were analyzed based on the types of situational code switching, and metaphorical code switching and types of code mixing in the form of words, phrases, and clauses. The analysis was carried out by referring to sociolinguistic theory. The results of the study show that situational and metaphorical code switching occur flexibly in Yannie Kim's family conversations, often triggered by factors such as changes in audience, emotional expression, or communicative goals. Meanwhile, code mixing is used more to clarify messages or increase emotional depth, reflecting a modern communication style. These two phenomena play an important role in accommodating cultural and linguistic differences in bilingual families and communities. This research is expected to contribute to sociolinguistic studies, especially related to the use of code switching and code mixing in the context of social media and bilingual family life. This research is also expected to enrich the understanding of language dynamics in multicultural communities and how language is used as a means of cross-cultural communication.

Abstract

The use of prompt-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) has grown rapidly in academia, offering efficiency and improved research quality. However, student researchers as novice researchers still face challenges such as difficulty formulating research problems, finding and summarizing relevant academic sources, and limited skills in writing effective prompts. Furthermore, there is a lack of programs or training specifically teaching the optimal use of AI in a research context. This Community Service (PkM) was implemented to provide a comprehensive understanding of the use of prompt-based AI in the context of preparing academic research critically, creatively, and ethically, and to help students utilize it in complex research stages, such as literature searches, problem formulation, and instrument development. This activity collaborated with students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD) as partners. The training implementation method used a blended learning model (online and offline) and a mixed explanatory method (sequential explanatory) to measure the effectiveness of the training through quantitative data (pre- and post-training surveys) followed by qualitative exploration. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in all aspects of student research competency. Understanding of scientific research procedures improved from "quite capable" to "capable–very capable." Furthermore, their ability to formulate research problems, locate relevant references, and develop scientific article outlines also consistently strengthened. This PkM successfully equipped students to be more independently prepared to initiate and conduct undergraduate research and produced training modules that can be used continuously.

Abstract

Numerous folktales across global literature exhibit notable parallels, such as the Korean story Ureong Gaksi (우렁각시) and the Indonesian legend Keong Emas. This study examines the structural features of both narratives by analyzing their intrinsic elements through Claude Lévi-Strauss’s structuralism and classifying their magical components using Wendy B. Faris’s framework of magical realism. The primary sources are the picture-book versions of Ureong Gaksi by Han Seong-ok (한성옥) and Keong Emas by Tira Ikranegara. A descriptive–qualitative comparative method facilitates an in-depth examination and comparison of the two texts. Data are collected through library research and analyzed to identify structural similarities and differences. Findings indicate that both tales share a central theme but differ in character portrayal, setting, and plot development. Through Lévi-Strauss’s structuralist approach, six fundamental mythemes related to magical elements are identified and subsequently mapped onto Faris’s five features of magical realism: (1) irreducible element, (2) phenomenal world, (3) merging of realms, (4) unsettling doubt, and (5) disruptions of time, space, and identity. The analysis demonstrates that, while both stories incorporate supernatural figures and magical motifs, they display distinct structural patterns, particularly in their characters, supporting figures, and types of conflict. Nevertheless, each narrative fulfills all five of Faris’s criteria for magical realism.
