Abstract

Psychological disorders are one of the chronic diseases that decrease patients' productivity and require long-term care and treatment. During the treatment process, patients often experience relapses due to the length of the treatment. One of the factors that can trigger relapse is medication discontinuation. Therefore, through this study, the researcher aims to obtain an overview of patients with mental disorders and relapse occurrences, as well as to determine the impact of medication discontinuation on the duration of mental illness, frequency of hospitalization, and severity of symptoms during relapse. This study is cross-sectional study involving 108 respondents. The analysis in this study utilized descriptive analysis and bivariate analysis using independent t-test. The results of this study indicate that one of the reasons family members bring patients to the hospital is the emergence of anger symptoms (26.1%), with medication discontinuation due to lack of patient medication adherence support being another common reason (23.5%). The research also shows a correlation between the duration of mental illness, frequency of hospitalization, severity of symptoms, and medication discontinuation in patients with mental disorders. Based on these findings, the involvement of family and effective discharge planning is crucial in reducing relapse rates and promoting rehabilitation towards independent and productive patient outcomes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of slow deep breathing and alternate nostril breathing on reducing blood pressure in patients with hypertension. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest group design approach. Friedman test results showed that there were differences in systolic blood pressure (x2 = 34.09; p <0.001) and diastolic (x2 = 28.74; p <0.001) in the slow deep breathing intervention group. Based on the post hoc test, measurements from time to time obtained p values (p = 0.001) for both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Meanwhile there were differences in blood pressure in the alternate nostril systolic breathing group (x2 = 15.50; p <0.001), diastolic (x2 = 17.18; p <0.001). Post hoc test found a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure from each measurement time during the intervention period with p values 0.005 and 0.025, respectively. Conclusion, in this study that slow deep breathing is much more effective in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Abstract

Pain is one of the common effects experienced by children during invasive procedures, such as infusion, injection, blood sampling, and others. Cold compresses are a non-pharmacological method believed to be effective in reducing pain in children prior to invasive procedures. The purpose this systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of cold compresses in reducing pain in children during invasive procedures. The study adopts a systematic review approach following the PRISMA guidelines. The synthesized articles were selected based on Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT) designs and met the inclusion criteria, namely children aged 0–18 years undergoing invasive procedures. Articles were sourced from PubMed, Cochrane, and ProQuest. The collected data included population, intervention, comparison, and outcomes measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and FLACC.  A review of three articles showed that cold compresses significantly reduced pain intensity in children before invasive procedures. Data analysis using a random-effects model of secondary trial data revealed a mean difference in pain intensity of 0.34 (95% confidence interval: [-0.76, -0.33]), assessed using VAS and FLACC scores. Cold compresses are proven effective in reducing pain intensity in children before invasive procedures. Further studies are needed to explore the influence of other variables, such as the type of procedure and the duration of application

Abstract

Hypertension in the elderly is one of the global health challenges with a high prevalence. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of isometric handgrip exercise and walking exercise in reducing blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with three intervention groups: (1) isometric handgrip exercise, (2) walking exercise, and (3) a combination of both. A total of 36 elderly were randomly selected and equally divided into the three groups. The intervention was conducted for eight weeks with analysis using Shapiro Wilk test, One Way Anova and Wilcoxon Test The results showed that the isometric handgrip and combination exercise groups had a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure (p<0.05). Meanwhile, walking exercise also had a positive effect, although not significant in all weeks of evaluation. The combination of both interventions showed the most optimal results, especially at weeks 5 and 8. This study concludes that isometric handgrip exercise and its combination with walking exercise are effective for lowering blood pressure in elderly with hypertension. It is recommended that this intervention be applied as a non-pharmacological therapy in elderly health services, with assistance by health workers to improve compliance and effectiveness of the program.
