Abstract

This research aims to identify the diversity of lichen species in three different areas: Temon, Kulon Progo; Depok, Sleman; and Tegalrejo, Magelang. Besides that to analyze their ecological role as environmental bioindicators. The method used was direct field observation with visual documentation using a mobile phone camera, followed by morphological identification. The results of the study successfully identified nine lichen species: Flavoparmelia caperata, Physcia atrostriata, Dirinaria applanata, Phlyctis argena, Acarospora socialis, Ropalospora viridis, Pyxine sorediata, Cryptothecia striata, and Graphis sp.. These species exhibited unique adaptations to various substrates (tree bark, rocks, and urban environments) and showed sensitivity to environmental changes, particularly air pollution. The mutualistic symbiosis between fungi and photobionts (algae/cyanobacteria) is key to the resilience of lichens in marginal habitats. These findings strengthen the potential of lichens as natural bioindicators and ecological pioneers, while also highlighting the need for further research to map the distribution and applications of lichens in Indonesia.

Abstract

This development research uses the ADDIE model. The development design consists of five stages, namely, Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The learning approach used in this e-module is the SSI (Socio-scientific Issue) approach. The learning web-based e-module with the SSI approach was evaluated by material experts, media experts, practitioners and tested its effectiveness on students of class XI IPA SMA N 1 Jebus using a quasi experiment with a random control group pretest-postest design. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interview, questionnaire, test, and documentation. The data from this study were analyzed by descriptive and inferential stastics with the MANOVA test. The results showed that: 1) web-based e-module learning with the SSI approach is feasible to use in learning biology based on the assessment of material experts and media experts; 2) web-based e-module learning with the SSI approach is practical to use in learning biology based on the assessment of biology teachers and students; 3) web-based e-module with the SSI approach effectively improves students' critical thinking skills and self-awareness, as evidenced by the results of the MANOVA test which shows significant differences (Sig value 0.000 <0.05) between students who use and do not use the e-module.

Abstract

AbstractThe leather tanning industry in the Piyungan Industrial Area (KIP), Yogyakarta, generates liquid waste containing significant amounts of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)], which is toxic and carcinogenic. This study aims to isolate and evaluate endophytic bacteria from Pontederia crassipes (water hyacinth) as potential agents for Cr(VI) bioremediation. A total of seven isolates were obtained from the plant’s roots, stems, and leaves, and were screened for Cr(VI) resistance using the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) test. Three selected isolates (PCr5, PCr6, and PCr7) exhibited the highest resistance, tolerating up to 2100 mg/L of Cr, and were confirmed to be non-pathogenic based on hemolysis, hypermucoviscosity, virulence, and gelatinase tests. Molecular identification revealed that the three isolates belong to the genus Pediococcus. Physiological and biochemical characterization showed that the isolates are gram-positive, cocci-shaped, non-motile, and facultative anaerobes. Growth profile analysis indicated a reduced growth rate in Cr-supplemented media, suggesting a toxic effect of chromium. Bioreduction assays demonstrated that all three isolates were capable of reducing Cr(VI), with the highest reduction efficiency observed at a concentration of 50 mg/L, ranging from 54.29% to 67.18%. Keywords: Endophytic Bacteria, Bioreduction, Hexavalent Chromium, Pediococcus sp., Pontederia crassipes.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of an e-module assisted by augmented reality with a discovery learning model on virus material to increase scientific literacy and learning independence for class X high school students. The study employed the ADDIE development model by Dick and Carey, employing a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The study involved 60 grade X students from SMA Negeri 1 Pengasih, with class X1 as the control group and X2 as the experimental group selected through cluster random sampling. Various instruments were utilized, including questionnaires from media and material experts, assessments by biology teachers, student responses, as well as tests on learning independence and science literacy. Data analysis encompassed descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings indicated the e-module's suitability, with media experts rating it at 98.37% and material experts at 99%. The practicality evaluation by biology teachers yielded a score of 95.32%, while student responses reached 96.96%. The N-Gain test demonstrated a substantial increase, and the One-Way MANOVA test indicated statistical significance (p <0.05). This e-module has demonstrated its viability, practicality, and efficacy in enhancing scientific literacy and learning independence concerning virus material.
