Abstract

Cold bonded lightweight aggregate generated from fly ash (FA LWA) has become an interesting approach to increase the consumption of fly ash and prevent over-mining of natural aggregate. However, using the cold-bonded hardening method could increase the number of open pores in LWA, making the concrete containing this LWA face an increased risk of degradation due to water ingress. Thus, in this research, the effect of using FA LWA in concrete on the mechanical and transport properties in a salt environment is being investigated. Three aggregate replacement ratios of 0, 50, and 100% were applied, while the salt environment was mimicked with NaCl and Na2SO4 solutions. The results show that the optimum replacement rate of FA LWA was 50%. Regarding the transport properties, exposing concrete to a salt environment (NaCl or Na2SO4) proved to slow down the capillary imbibition rate slightly.

Abstract

Wood consumption in Indonesia, which is expected to reach more than 64.84 million m³ by 2025, is putting enormous pressure on forests, as evidenced by the reduction in forest area through the clearing of 96,230 hectares of forest in 2023. To reduce dependence on wood as a building material, alternative materials with comparable physical and mechanical properties are needed. Bamboo, especially laminated bamboo, was chosen because it has high tensile strength, a short harvest time, and abundant availability. This study examines the behavior of hollow section laminated bamboo beam-column connections with a glue-in-rod-bracket system to determine the ductility of the connection under unidirectional (static) loads. An experimental method was used with the independent variables of diameter and number of bolts, while the dependent variables included the moment-rotation of the connection, stiffness, strength, and ductility. The results show that the average ductility values for 4 and 6 thread rods D6, D8, and D10 mostly meet the SNI 1729 (≥1.25) and AISC 360 (rotation >0.03 rad) standards, with classifications ranging from "partially ductile" to "fully elastic." However, the 10-diameter 6-thread rod only achieved a ductility of 1.2, thus failing to meet the SNI standard. Based on the Handbook of Structural Steel Connection Design and Details, all connections fall into the non-seismic category because their ductility values are less than 3. These findings confirm the potential of laminated bamboo as an environmentally friendly construction material, while also providing technical guidelines for the design of non-seismic beam-column connections.

Abstract

This research examines the use of folding bridges as an alternative to mitigate the impact of natural disasters that frequently occur in Indonesia. Folding bridges have been used in Japan, but they are not commonly used in Indonesia. The use of folding bridges in Japan has been designed to accommodate vehicles with a maximum load of 13.8 kN, in addition to pedestrians. The folding bridge used in Japan takes up to 5 minutes to stretch over the river. This research was conducted by determining the design of the folding bridge, starting from the dimensions used to make test objects. The analysis conducted in this study is a numerical analysis of a folding bridge with a span size of 5,000 mm, utilizing a longbolt type A490 bolt connection with a diameter of 12 mm. In the longbolt connection, a 32 mm ball bearing is also installed to provide driving force for the folding bridge when it opens and closes. The main profile used in this study is the UNP profile with dimensions 75 x 40 x 5 mm. The steel girder used is a steel border plate with a thickness of 3 mm and plate specifications that have a pattern to prevent it from slipping easily. The manufacture of folding bridge test objects focuses on the primary function for pedestrians when evacuating an area affected by natural disasters. This research focuses on the numerical analysis of static loads, providing the results of deflection values, as well as the need for bolts used as connections on the main profile. Calculations related to the bolt requirements used refer to the requirements of SNI 1729: 2020. The determination of the deflection value produced by the folding bridge, which has been designed using software, refers to the requirements of RSNI T-03-2005.
