Abstract

Related to the news about the terrorist case, many opinions confirm that Islam is not a terrorist. Islam never teaches violent behavior in state life. Islam remains Islam and terrorists must burn on earth. The problem that happened was that mass media coverage always tended to link Islam and terrorists. To look more deeply at the agenda of media settings in reporting about Islam and Terrorists, researchers want to see this phenomenon in local media in Riau. From the two major media in Riau, namely Riau Pos and Pekanbaru Tribun, researchers studied more deeply about terrorist labeling of Islam through the perspective of critical and ideological studies which eventually gave rise to assumptions about the concept of labeling mass media in the formation of its agenda. So that an important question emerged which was formulated in this study, namely how the label of terrorists against Islam on news about terrorist cases in Tribun Pekanbaru and Riau Pos daily newspapers. This study uses Fairclough CDA model of the procedure for critical discourse analysis whose stages consist of three, namely description, interpretation and explanation. The research methodology in this research uses qualitative research methodology. Qualitative methodology is more intended to express a picture and / or understanding (understanding) about how and why a phenomenon or reality occurs. Based on the results of the research conducted,  it can be seen that the west has succeeded in discussing the labeling of Islam as a terrorist religion through mass media. This is evident from the absence of a review by the editors of the media on the meaning of the word terrorist labeled against Islam in every report about terrorists.

The results of this research show that the three news television stations studied, there were MetroTV, KompasTV, and TVOne has carried out construction on all the news that entered the newsroom, including news about the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). Constructivist approaches assess that partiality and certain values cannot be eliminated from media coverage. Ethics, moral choice, and journalist and media alignments are the integral parts of news production. Ethics and morals in many ways mean partiality to one group or partiality to certain values. And it is generally based on certain beliefs as well. In addition, there were framing models that tended to be carried out by MetroTV, KompasTV, and TVOne. The framing model that tends to be carried out by the three news television media also tends to be different. From the models, the message and meaning are different from the audience or television viewers.

The development of photography both directly and indirectly is in line with the development of the journalistic field. Digital technology that is growing rapidly at this time also provides a significant contribution. Photos that record an event can be immediately disseminated in seconds using digital cameras and computer devices that have internet facilities. the photos that analyzed the meaning of photo denotations that appear such as mass mobilization, burning actions due to clashes between the masses and the police as well as photos of the Jakarta Governor's trial non-active Basuki Tjahja Purnama or Ahok reinforces the narrative that delivers news showing the two daily newspaper media giving support or partisanship to the actions of defending Islam 411 and 212. The meaning of connotations that appear in photographs can be seen from the photo taking process which generally from the upper and front sides of the object gives an impression of object density in the resulting image, further reinforcing the assumption of daily media alignment who only saw the Defensive Action of Islam 411 and 212 as a news commodity not a movement that defended the banners of Islam or defended a suspect in the religion, namely Basuki Tjahja Purnama or Ahok.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the communication patterns of President Jokowi-Ma'ruf's campaign team in the 2019 elections in North Sumatra, the communication management of the campaign team, the response of the voters, and the results achieved by the campaign team. The data sources consisted of primary data, namely from the North Sumatra regional campaign team and secondary data from various books, documents, journals, articles, websites and others related to this research. The main informants were the campaign team which was determined purposively in accordance with the research objectives. Besides that, the community also distributed questionnaires to the voters for the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin presidential candidate in several cities and districts, namely Medan, Tebing Tinggi, Simalungun, and Tapanuli Tengah as a form of representation from the regions in North Sumatra because of the diversity of ethnicities, cultures, and religion. The results of the study indicate that the communication pattern of President Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin's regional campaign team in North Sumatra is carried out in broad lines through two forms, namely direct communication with the community and indirect communication or by using mass media. The delivery of infrastructure development work programs to the campaign masses received a response from the voting public. Campaigns through the approach and involvement of religious leaders can also attract sympathy from the voters. The voters for the Jokowi-Ma'ruf presidential candidate in North Sumatra generally answer because of the figure of the presidential candidate. Meanwhile, the position of Kiyai Haji Ma'ruf Amin as a vice presidential candidate is a factor that can influence or increase the electability of Muslims in determining the victory of a presidential candidate.
