Abstract

This research utilized response surface methodology (RSM) to explore how the yield of liquid smoke obtained from ketapang wood (Terminalia catappa) is influenced by the size of wood particles and the temperature of pyrolysis. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to characterize the liquid smoke. To assess liquid smoke’s antifungal effects, a petri dish bioassay was conducted using 1.0-4.0% (v/v) concentrations against Schizophyllum commune. RSM was applied to optimize vinegar from T. catappa by varying the wood particle size and the pyrolysis temperature. The optimal yield, 24.67%, was obtained with a 3.22 mm particle size and a 425°C pyrolysis temperature. The liquid smoke produced at 400-450°C completely inhibited of S. commune growth at 2.0-4.0%. The primary components of the liquid smoke at 400°C were 2-methoxy- phenol (24.85%), creosol (8.39%), 4-ethyl-2-methoxy- phenol (7.21%), 2-5-methyl-furancarboxaldehyde (4.55%), and 4-ethyl-2-methoxy-phenol (3.74%). The primary components at 425°C were 2-methoxy-phenol (25.60%), creosol (15.15%), 5-methyl-2 furancarboxaldehyde (12.75%), and 2,6-dimethoxy-phenol (9.31%). At 450°C, the main components were 2-methoxy-phenol (25.26%), 4-ethyl-2-methoxy-phenol (8.46%), creosol (8.40%), 5-methyl-2-furancarboxaldehyde (4.02%), and 4-ethyl-2-methoxy-phenol (3.98%).

Abstract

Today's 21st century learning requires students and teachers to be able to adapt, have critical thinking skills, have the ability to solve problems, be able to communicate and collaborate, as well as be creative and innovative. In the 21st century learning does not only rely on knowledge but also skills. However, in reality this has not met expectations. To achieve appropriate knowledge and skills, teaching materials used by teachers should be accompanied by Student Activity Sheets (LKPD). However, there are indications that teachers have problems in preparing LKPD because most teachers do not understand how to bring up 21st century skills. The LKPDs developed are also not in accordance with learning models and methods for applying 21st century skills. Thus the LKPD making workshops conducted aim to shape teacher abilities in making good and interesting LKPD with the aim of making the learning process more qualified. The method used is socialization, various lectures consisting of delivery of material, questions and answers and discussions, as well as the practice of making LKPD accompanied by the implementing team. Workshop participants were teachers of SD Negeri 18 North Pontianak. The result of this workshop activity is that teachers understand the components that must be in LKPD, understand the steps for preparing LKPD, and are able to produce one LKPD product.

Abstract

Abstract

The success of education is greatly influenced by the role of teachers, not only as educators but also as professionals who continuously improve their competencies through reflection and research, one of which is through Classroom Action Research (CAR). This CAR is conducted by teachers to improve the quality of learning and solve problems in the classroom. Despite its importance, many teachers still experience difficulties in writing CAR articles, mainly due to a lack of training in scientific writing. Therefore, this workshop was held to improve academic skills and encourage active participation in scientific writing. This workshop was held offline with 10 teachers. The activity included four main stages: initial planning, socialization, presentation of material by resource persons, discussion and question and answer sessions, and evaluation through post-tests and participant testimonials. The results showed that this workshop was effective in improving teachers' understanding and skills in writing CAR articles.
