Abstract

Background: Globally, the prevalence of gouty arthritis has doubled from 1990 to 2020, with the total of number cases 55,8 million in 2020. There is no Indonesian national data, yet, studies in some regions noted the cases, in North Sulawesi, in Depok, and in Bali. Prevention of gouty arthritis involves a healthy diet and lifestyle. Knowing the knowledge, attitudes, and practice about diet in people with gouty arthritis can help health institutions plan more appropriate interventions to prevent an increase in cases. To assess this, a valid and reliable instrument to measurement is needed. Aim: To test validity and reliability of a questionnaire of knowledge, attitudes, and practice towards to diet in people with gouty arthritis. Methods: This study is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach involving 13 respondents, patients in Manado City Health Center selected using purposive sampling method. Validity was assessed using r-count obtained through bivariate Pearson which was compared with r-table. Reliability was assessed through Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Results: The validity test using bivariate Pearson was valid for 9 statement in knowledge and attitudes section, and 8 statement in practice section of the questionnaire, with r-count>r-table, and the reliability test using Cronbach's alpha with values on knowledge, attitudes, and actions of 0.906, 0.924, and 0.864, ≥0.7, respectively. Conclusion: 26 out of 30 valid and reliable questions can be used to measure the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practice in people with gouty arthritis. Keywords: gouty arthritis, questionnaire, validity, reliability

Abstract

Elementary school-age children are still easily persuaded by friends, the environment, advertisements, and the seduction of hawker sellers. Therefore, we make elementary school students as an educational target, so that they understand the importance of precision in buying snacks. The purpose of this activity is to find out the influence of counseling on the knowledge of SD Kartika XXI-1 students about healthy snacks at school. The method of implementation in this PkM activity is the counseling method for students of SD XXI-1 Kartika Jaya, Wanea District, Manado City. Counseling activities are a two-way communication process between communicators (extension workers) and communicators in an interaction. This activity will be carried out in May 2024, starting at 09.00 WITA. This health education activity is evaluated through knowledge change through direct questions and answers with students where the results are obtained that the students already understand about choosing healthy snacks, especially at school. The conclusion of this activity is that counseling activities can increase the knowledge of SD Kartika XXI-1 students about healthy snacks at school.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Irrational antibiotic use remains a global health challenge and is a major driver of increasing antibiotic resistance. North Sulawesi showed an increase in the use of Access category antibiotics in 2021–2022, necessitating an evaluation to ensure clinical practices are in line with guidelines. Family doctors, as the frontline of primary health care, play a very important role in controlling the appropriate use of antibiotics. Aim: To determine the level of knowledge, attitudes, and actions of family doctors in prescribing antibiotics and to analyze the relationship between the length of practice of family doctors and their knowledge, attitudes, and actions. Methods: This study used a quantitative cross-sectional design through the distribution of a Google-form questionnaire to 91 family doctors working with BPJS in North Sulawesi. Univariate analysis was used to determine the frequency distribution of the research variables, while bivariate analysis used the Spearman Rank correlation test to assess the relationship between length of practice and knowledge, attitudes, and actions in prescribing antibiotics Results: The results showed that all respondents had good knowledge (100%) and attitudes (100%) regarding antibiotic administration, and most showed good practices (95.6%) while a small number showed adequate practices (4.4%). The correlation test results showed that there was no significant relationship between length of practice and knowledge (p = 0.556; r = -0.062), attitude (p = 0.714; r = -0.039), or actions (p = 0.801; r = -0.027). Conclusion: Family doctors in North Sulawesi have good knowledge, attitudes, and practices in prescribing antibiotics, and length of practice is not significantly related to these three variables.

Abstract

Background: Antibiotic Resistance is an increasing global issue that recently  been found in the aquatic environment, including rivers. Rivers that flow through a dense population are most likely carrying domestic waste, livestock residues and healthcare effluents containing bacterias as well as antibiotic residue. Such condition urges antibiotic resistence which will somehow transport to the coastal ecosystem.  Manado Bay, which receives water flow from multiple rivers, is at risk of accumulating resistant bacterial populations. Aim: To identify the presence and resistance patterns of bacteria in river water samples discharging into Manado Bay. Methods: A quantitative descriptive study was conducted at two river locations. Bacteria were identified using Gram staining, catalase, and coagulase tests. Antibiotic susceptibility testing used the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method following CLSI 2021 standards. Results: Four bacterial species were identified, which are Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus sp., Staphylococcus aureus, and Lactobacillus sp., each of which exhibited different resistance patterns to various types of antibiotics at each sampling location. Conclusion: Rivers flowing into Manado Bay contain antibiotic-resistant bacteria, indicating environmental exposure to antibiotic residues. These rivers may serve as pathways for the spread of resistant bacteria to coastal areas.
