Abstract

Jamu atau ramuan herbal merupakan ramuan tradisional yang menjadi ciri khas budaya Indonesia dan telah diwariskan kepada generasi penerus secara turun-temurun. Dalam proses pembuatannya, jamu dibuat berdasarkan resep dari leluhur dan berperan upaya melestarikan keanekaragaman hayati yang berkhasiat obat serta turut melestarikan kebudayaan Indonesia sebagai ciri khas tradisi yang dimiliki. Yogurt merupakan minuman fungsional yang baik terhadap kesehatan gastrointestinal dan kardiovaskular. Telah diteliti, kombinasi jamu dan yogurt mampu meningkatkan kadar antioksidan yang berperan dalam melindungi radikal bebas. Aur Duri adalah salah satu kelurahan yang berada disekitar 10 km dari Kampus Universitas Jambi Mendalo dan juga merupakan tempat domisili peneliti pengabdi. Beberapa penjual jamu gendong adalah ibu-ibu produktif kerap ditemui pengabdi dikelurahan ini.. Metode yang dilakukan adalah metode pengenalan terhadap produk inovasi,pelatihan dan pembekalan terhadap produk inovasi, monitoring dan evaluasi. Hasil pengabdian berdasarkan prestest dan posttest kuisioner menunjukkan bahwa mitra antusias dan memahami terhadap materi yogurt dan dapat mempraktekkan sendiri dirumah masing masing, feedback kegiatan berjalan lancar dan berkeberlanjutan.

Abstract

Waste management has become a central issue due to the growing population and the increasing amount of unmanaged waste. This management should be implemented across all aspects of life, from small to large scales. At the smaller scale, waste management is introduced starting from schools, where values are instilled in students that they will carry into adulthood. The habit of managing waste from an early age is expected to become a positive practice in the future. State Senior High School (SMA N) 3 Muaro Jambi is a well-regarded Senior High School in Jambi Province, holding an A accreditation. Currently, SMA N 3 Muaro Jambi does not have an effective waste management system, particularly for organic waste. Additionally, the school is planning to implement the Adiwiyata program, which includes waste management as one of its key points. This community service activity is carried out in three stages: a survey and analysis of the waste problems, socialization of organic waste management into liquid organic fertilizer as an environmentally friendly solution, and practical training in organic waste management. It is hoped that this activity will provide students with knowledge that can lead to business development, serve as a benchmark for other schools in Jambi Province, and help fulfill the requirements for the Adiwiyata program.

Abstract

Marsidudu is a traditional steam bath tradition performed by the Mandailing Batak sub-ethnic group. This research was conducted to determine the knowlodge of the Mandailing Batak ethnic community about the marsidudu tradition. Data collection was carried out through in dept interview. The results of the study show that the Mandailing Batak ethnic community utilizes 29 types of plants used for the marsidudu tradition. The perceived benefits of marsidudu are refreshing the body, relieving muscle pain, relieving stress, relieving aches, improving blood circulation and the body feeling more fragrant and having bright vision. In the process of carrying out this marsidudu there are 3 stages, namely boiling the ingredients, carrying out marsidudu and after doing marsidudu. The results of quantitative data analysis showed that Nypa fructicans was the type of plant that had the highest ICS value of 600. The part of the plant that was most used for marsidudu was the leaves (52,7%).

Abstract

The disease caused by pathogenic bacteria is one of the main problems in aquaculture in the Jambi Province. One of the diseases that occurs in cultivated catfish is due to infection by bacteria Edwardsiella tarda and Edwardsiella ictaluri, which cause Edwardsiellosis with a mortality rate above 50%. The antibacterial properties of the sappanwood extract (Caesalpinia sappan, L.) can be used to overcome problems in aquaculture, while reducing the use of antibiotics that can have negative impacts. This research aims to explore the antibacterial potential of sappanwood extract (Caesalpinia sappan, L.), a local plant believed to possess strong antimicrobial activity. The study began with isolating bacteria from catfish that showing symptoms of the disease, identifying the test bacteria, followed by extracting sappanwood using 96% ethanol solvent. Subsequently, the antibacterial activity was tested using the disc diffusion method with extract concentrations of 1%, 5%, and 10%. The research results indicate that sappanwood extract at a concentration of 5% has a very strong ability to inhibit the growth of E. tarda and E. ictaluri bacteria. The inhibition zones produced show significant antibacterial activity equivalent to the antibiotic ciprofloxacin used as a positive control.

Abstract

Penyakit diabetes melitus merupakan masalah kesehatan global yang memerlukan terobosan dalam pengembangan terapi alternatif yang efektif dan terjangkau. Kayu secang dikenal memiliki sifat antioksidan dan antiinflamasi yang mungkin berkontribusi dalam mengelola kadar glukosa darah. Fermentasi kayu secang menjadi kombucha dapat memperbaiki cita rasa dan meningkatkan aktivitas biologis. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas kombucha kayu secang (Caesalpinia sappan L.) dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa darah pada model mencit (Mus musculus, L.) diabetes. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental, menggunakan 6 kelompok perlakuan, yaitu kontrol normal (tidak diberikan perlakuan apapun), kontrol aloksan (diberikan induksi aloksan 200 mg/kgBB secara intraperitonial dalam 1 kali pemberian), kontrol glibenclamide (diberikan induksi aloksan dan obat glibenclamide 0,013 mg/20 gr BB), dan 3 perlakuan dosis kombucha (diberikan induksi aloksan dan dosis perlakuan masing-masing : 0,26 ml/20 gr BB, 0,52 ml/20 gr BB, dan 0,78 ml/20 gr BB). Setiap perlakuan terdiri dari 5 ulangan dengan durasi perlakuan selama 14 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa induksi aloksan meningkatkan gula darah pada semua kelompok perlakuan hingga 7 kali lipat dibandingkan dengan kadar gula darah awal. Kenaikan kadar gula darah tertinggi terjadi pada kelompok kontrol aloksan, yaitu dari 70,4 mg/dl menjadi 518,2 mg/dl. Setiap kelompok dosis perlakuan kombucha menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan dalam menurunkan kadar gula darah dibandingkan dengan kontrol glibenclamide sebagai obat anti diabetes, hal ini menunjukkan potensi fitokimia kombucha kayu secang yang lebih unggul dibandingkan dengan obat anti diabetes. Setiap perlakuan dosis kombucha menunjukkan penurunan kadar gula darah dibawah 200 mg/dl terjadi setelah 7 hari perlakuan. Sementara kelompok kontrol glibenclamide baru menunjukkan penurunan kadar gula darah dibawah 200 mg/dl setelah 14 hari perlakuan. Dosis kombucha 0,78 ml/20 gr BB merupakan dosis yang paling efektif karena menunjukkan efek hipoglikemik yang signifikan setelah induksi aloksan, dengan penurunan kadar gula darah dari H+3 sampai mendekati normal pada H+14. Hal ini menunjukkan potensi kombucha kayu secang sebagai alternatif pengelolaan hiperglikemia.

Abstract

Fruit rot disease is one of the main obstacles in the cultivation of guava (Psidium guajava) because it directly reduces the quality and selling value of the harvest. This research aims to identify and characterize the fungus that causes fruit rot disease in guava. The research was carried out by observing disease symptoms in the field, isolating the pathogen from infected fruit, as well as macroscopic and microscopic characterization of the fungus using Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) media. The results of the research show that the initial symptoms are blackish brown spots on the surface of the fruit which develop into sunken lesions and spread to cause the fruit to dry out. The fungal isolate has white colonies with a flower-like pattern and forms black aservuli. Microscopic observation shows that the conidia are fusiform, insulated, with darker pigmented middle cells and have a transparent appendix. Based on these morphological characters, the fungus that causes fruit rot disease in guava is thought to belong to the genus Pestalotiopsis sp. Further research is needed through molecular approaches, such as PCR or DNA sequencing, as well as pathogenicity tests to strengthen and confirm the role of this fungus as the main cause of fruit rot disease.

Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and requires effective and sustainable management. The use of natural ingredients as alternative therapies is gaining increasing attention, including bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum). This study is a literature review aimed at assessing the potential of bay leaves as an antihypercholesterolemic agent based on existing scientific evidence. The methods used included searching and analyzing various scientific articles covering in vivo studies, clinical trials, and in vitro and in silico approaches. The results of the review indicate that bay leaves can consistently reduce total cholesterol, LDL, and triglyceride levels, while improving the overall lipid profile; these findings are also presented in diagrammatic form to facilitate visualization of the data distribution. Identified mechanisms of action include inhibition of the HMG CoA reductase enzyme, decreased intestinal cholesterol absorption, improved lipid metabolism, and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and polyphenols work synergistically to produce multitarget effects on lipid metabolism. Several clinical trials have also shown significant effectiveness in patients with dyslipidemia, although there are variations in some parameters such as HDL. Despite its promising potential, the development of bay leaves as a clinical therapy still requires further research, particularly large-scale clinical trials, extract standardization, and long-term safety assessment. Therefore, bay leaves have the potential to be developed as an alternative or complementary herbal therapy for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia.

Abstract

Penulisan karya ilmiah menuntut integritas akademik dan pengelolaan referensi yang sistematis, tetapi banyak mahasiswa masih kesulitan melakukan sitasi sehingga menimbulkan kesalahan format dan risiko plagiarisme tidak disengaja. Program pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan literasi digital mahasiswa Biologi Universitas Jambi melalui pelatihan terstruktur penggunaan aplikasi manajemen referensi Mendeley. Kegiatan mencakup sosialisasi, pendampingan instalasi, pengelolaan database referensi, serta fungsi sitasi otomatis. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan respons yang signifikan: kategori “Sangat Tidak Setuju” turun dari 14% menjadi 1%, “Tidak Setuju” dari 36% menjadi 4%, sementara pemahaman materi (“Setuju” dan “Sangat Setuju”) meningkat hingga 72%. Peserta menunjukkan peningkatan nyata dalam kemampuan mengelola referensi secara efisien dan akurat. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa penguasaan alat manajemen referensi digital berperan penting dalam meningkatkan kualitas dan integritas penulisan ilmiah mahasiswa.
