Abstract

The Dewa Buluran Farmers Group often faces difficulties in accurately and timely identifying corn plant diseases. This is due to a lack of knowledge and information about corn plant diseases and the appropriate control methods. Farmers heavily rely on chemical fertilizers and pesticides for pest control, and sometimes the application of these chemicals is not in the correct dosage, resulting in poor corn plant growth. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a mentoring activity to utilize the Coditor (Corn Disease Detector) application for identifying corn plant diseases and implementing appropriate and effective corn plant disease control using biological agents for the Dewa Buluran Farmers Group. This activity aims to improve the knowledge and ability of the Dewa Buluran Farmers Group in identifying corn plant diseases and being able to utilize biological agents in pest control. This activity was attended by extension workers, plant pest and disease control officers, and 25 members of the Dewa Buluran Farmers Group. The activity was held on September 26, 2024, at the Dewa Buluran Farmers Group's house. The community service activities were carried out in several stages, namely a survey of the problems faced by partners, training and mentoring, and evaluation. The results of this activity show an increase in farmers' understanding of identifying types of pests and diseases of corn plants, and farmers are able to apply pest management technology by utilizing biological agents.

Abstract

Indonesia has about 30,000 different kinds of medicinal plants, which is a very large number compared to the total of 40,000 that exist all over the world. In fact, Indonesia, along with other Asian countries like China and India, has one of the highest concentrations of medicinal plants in the world. An expert is required to identify functional medicinal plants, but the number that such experts is quite limited. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and transfer learning can be very effective tools for identifying Indonesian medical plants. These methods have been shown to be highly accurate at classifying different objects. Transfer learning was used because it can reuse the knowledge gained from previous training, which speeds up the process and improves accuracy. This study used 5,000 images divided into 20 categories. The MobileNetV2 model was used, and it achieved 100% accuracy for all categories in the experiments. The Identification Indonesian Medical Plants method in this study has been implemented in the I-NusaPlant mobile-based application. The app's performance was tested, and it was found to use a maximum of 17% CPU and 197 MB of memory. This app works on all Android versions from 8.0 to 13.

Abstract

Calamus acehensis (Rustiami), known as Aceh jernang rattan, is an endemic plant with high economic value in Aceh Province. This jernang produces red resin from its fruit which is used as a natural dye for rattan handicrafts as well as in traditional medicine, such as wound medicine, headaches, and post-natal pilis. The advantage of C. acehensis over other jernang species lies in its rapid growth and high resin production at a young age. At the age of two years, the plant has reached a height of two meters and started to bear fruit. Distinctive morphological features include stem internodes up to 50 cm, leaves up to 2 meters long, petioles 35 cm long, and black leaf sheaths with long and dense spines. This study aims to assess pollen morphology to determine its pollination system and taxonomic status. Pollen samples were taken from C. acehensis growing in Rieseh Tengoh Village, Aceh and from cultivation in Jambi. Analysis was conducted using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) at the UGM Integrated Research and Testing Laboratory. Results showed that both samples had small pollen size, 1.212 µm (Aceh) and 1.116 µm (Jambi), with a single monocolpate aperture shape and flat exine ornamentation. These characteristics indicate the potential for wind-assisted cross-pollination (xenogamy) (anemogamy), providing important insights for the conservation and cultivation of Acehnese jernang.
