Abstract

This article aims to explore Rahmah El Yunusiyyah's resistance against discrimination faced by Minangkabau women in accessing education.  The study in this article is conducted through historical methodology with a biographical and literature approach. The primary data source in this study is the manuscript Boekoe peringatan 15 tahoen Dinijjah School Poeteri Padang Pandjang. The data obtained was analysed using the historical analysis model. According to the analysis of the data obtained, it was found that Rahmah El Yunusiyyah's resistance and struggle against discrimination faced by Minangkabau women was motivated by the socio-cultural reality of Minangkabau society at that time. Minangkabau customs and traditions at that time considered women's lives to be under the power of men so that they did not need education. This study also found that Rahmah El Yunusiyyah's Islamic education thoughts were not only campaigned in the public sphere, but also realised by establishing special educational institutions for women based on Islamic principles. These ideas are women as Madrasatul Ula, Tertib-Sopan, and the integration of traditional Minangkabau values with "de harmonische ontwikkeling". The findings have significance as an academic resource and benchmarking for Indonesian women's struggle against discrimination through strong thought and impactful activism.

Abstract

Since their arrival in Indonesia, Pattani Malay students have played a pivotal role in fostering solidarity, strengthening Islamic identity, and expanding intellectual networks. One significant outcome of this dynamic was the establishment of the Association of Pattani Malay Students in Indonesia in Lampung, in 2009. Despite its importance, research on this organization remains limited, with most studies focusing on the broader history of the Pattani student diaspora in Indonesia rather than examining the continuity, transformation, and challenges of PMMPI in the specific local context of Lampung. This study adopts the historical method, comprising four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data were collected from organizational documents, activity archives, relevant literature, and interviews with core leaders spanning the period from 2012 to 2024. The findings indicate that PMMPI has sustained its continuity through systematic cadre regeneration and the affirmation of Islamic values as the foundation of identity. Organizational changes have occurred in terms of structure, nomenclature, and strategic orientation, demonstrating adaptability to social, political, and academic dynamics. At the same time, the organization has faced persistent challenges, including language barriers, social integration, and global crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Overall, the study underscores that PMMPI functions not merely as a student association, but also as an agent of identity formation, solidarity, and adaptation for Pattani students in Indonesia. The implications highlight the need for further exploration of the role of diaspora organizations in reinforcing religious, national, and academic ties within the context of globalization.

Abstract

This article discusses two important historical sites in the Banten region, namely the Kasunyatan Mosque and the Tomb of Maulana Yusuf, which have high spiritual, cultural, and historical value. The Kasunyatan Mosque, built in the 16th century by Kyai Dukuh, became a symbol of Islamic preaching as well as a center of religious education during the Banten Sultanate. The mosque's distinctive architecture and layout, rich in philosophical values, reflect a blend of Islamic traditions and local culture. Meanwhile, the Maulana Yusuf Mausoleum stands as a testament to the significant role of the second sultan of the Banten Sultanate in conquering Pajajaran and expanding Islamic influence. The mausoleum's proximity to his spiritual mentor symbolizes the harmony between political power and religious authority during that era. Today, both sites have developed into popular religious tourism destinations, especially during major Islamic holidays. Through historical research methods, this article demonstrates that the Kasunyatan Mosque and Maulana Yusuf's Tomb not only hold religious significance but also possess profound historical, social, and cultural value, and have the potential to be developed as religious tourism sites rooted in local culture.

Abstract

Document control is a crucial aspect of office work related to the management of records. Given the vital role records play in providing accurate, timely, relevant, and complete information, records management must be optimized to support decision-making and policy formulation by leaders. Well-managed office records are easier to retrieve when needed. This study aims to examine the management of inactive records as well as the inhibiting and supporting factors at BBPOM Bandar Lampung. The research employed a descriptive method with a qualitative approach, using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, literature review, and documentation. Data analysis included reduction, presentation, and verification, while data validity was tested through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that the management of inactive records at BBPOM generally aligns with established mechanisms, as BBPOM has implemented a Records Retention Schedule (RRS) for the storage and disposal of records. However, there are several challenges in record management, such as limited storage space and large volumes of records, which have resulted in many records being improperly organized. Additionally, data from 2018-2021 show that the lack of human resources (HR) in archiving and limited facilities also hinder the management of inactive dynamic records, causing delays in task completion within the set deadlines. According to ANRI regulations, HR is a key factor in records management. Nevertheless, there are also supporting factors for managing inactive dynamic records at BBPOM, such as scheduled record destruction, the existence of a comprehensive archiving SOP, and a proposal to increase HR in archiving by 2025

Abstract

Abstract: This historical study investigates the emergence and dynamics of hypocrisy (nifāq) in the early Islamic community of Madinah and explores the strategic responses of Prophet Muḥammad (SAW) in mitigating internal threats posed by the Munāfiqūn (hypocrites). Using a historical-analytical method, the research draws upon primary sources such as the Qur’an, ḥadīth, classical sīrah, and early Islamic historiography, while contextualizing the findings with modern scholarly insights. The study identifies a series of conspiratorial acts orchestrated by ‘Abdullāh b. Ubayy and his followers—ranging from military desertion, rumor-spreading, alliance with enemies, to attempts at division through rival institutions. The analysis demonstrates that the Prophet’s (SAW) leadership was historically grounded in restraint, long-term vision, and political maturity, prioritizing social cohesion over immediate retribution. By interpreting these responses as part of a conscious historical strategy, the research highlights the relevance of the Prophetic model in contemporary Muslim leadership, especially in managing intra-community tensions and ideological fragmentation. This paper contributes to Islamic historical scholarship by revisiting early Madinan society through the lens of conflict and governance and proposes further interdisciplinary research that bridges prophetic leadership with historical and political thought in Islamic civilization.

Abstract

This study examines the acculturation of agrarian traditions, particularly the Seren Taun ceremony, in the villages of Bojongsari and Sukamaju, Nyalindung District, Sukabumi, between 1986 and 2024. The Seren Taun ceremony, a harvest celebration, has historically been found in traditional villages such as Kanekes Baduy and Ciptagelar. However, interestingly, this tradition also persists in rural villages such as Bojongsari and Sukamaju, albeit with significant differences due to socio-cultural and religious acculturation. The main objective of this study is to analyze the contents of the traditional “Ririmbon Panen” guidebook found in both villages and to identify the forms of acculturation that influence agricultural practices and religious rituals. Using a qualitative approach, this research involves field methods (observation, interviews, documentation) and philology to edit and translate the texts, supplemented by content analysis to reveal the values contained therein. The results of the study show that the Seren Taun tradition in Bojongsari and Sukamaju, known as “Meteumeuyan,” has undergone profound acculturation with Islamic teachings. This transformation is evident in the replacement of amulets with prayers from the Qur'an and the use of the Islamic calendar in determining harvest times. Although pre-Islamic elements such as offerings and incense burning have been eliminated, other aspects such as calculating auspicious/inauspicious days and wind direction have been retained. In addition, the community still respects Monday as “Nyi Pohaci Day,” when rice processing activities are stopped. The Seren Taun ceremony in these two villages represents a concrete example of cultural acculturation in Indonesian agrarian communities, where indigenous traditions adapt to Islamic thinking, creating a unique blend that enriches cultural meaning without losing its essence. Keywords: Agrarian, Acculturation, Seren Taun, Islam, Sunda.

Abstract

The Islamic Library in Cordoba was one of the leading libraries of its time, offering various fields of knowledge, including collections of Islamic and European history. This research aims to understand the development of scientific civilization which became a mecca of progress in Europe during the Second Umayyad Dynasty. This research methodology uses a library research approach with data collection through literature, documentation (both printed and electronic), as well as data and information sources relevant to the study. The findings in this study show that the development of science in Cordoba during the Second Umayyad Dynasty was driven by the construction of academies and libraries. The palace library in Cordoba, built by Caliph Abdurrahman, was one of the best libraries in the Islamic world at the time. It was staffed by a librarian called a "bakiya," and involved copyists and bookbinders. The glittering development of Islamic libraries during the Umayyad period had a great influence on the civilization of Arab society, making the Cordoba Library a center of advanced civilization in Europe. The existence of this library became the foundation for increasing knowledge and learning throughout the region, having a positive impact on civilization and culture at that time.

Abstract

Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) was established to enhance the role of Muslim women in religious, social, and educational spheres. As a key figure, Solichah Wahid Hasyim played a pivotal role in transforming Muslimat NU from its early form as Nahdlatul Oelama Moederbond (NOM) into an autonomous NU body with a clear organizational vision. Guided by transformative leadership theory and gender and development perspectives, this study examines her leadership strategies in institutionalizing Muslimat NU through the establishment of local branches, member capacity building, and program innovation. This study employs historical research methods encompassing four stages: heuristic (collecting archival records and treatises), source criticism (evaluating authenticity and credibility), interpretation (contextualizing contributions within Indonesia's socio-political landscape), and historiography (systematic narrative construction). The findings reveal that Solichah challenged the entrenched domestic stigma faced by women from Islamic boarding schools by initiating campaigns to eradicate illiteracy, promoting vocational training, and advancing health education, while aligning these initiatives with Islamic values. Her influence extended nationally through active participation in the Indonesian Women's Congress (KOWANI) and the national parliament, where she advocated for policies related to women's rights and education. This study underscores the importance of integrating religious legitimacy with transformative leadership to achieve sustainable women's empowerment. The findings not only enrich leadership and gender studies within the Islamic context but also highlight Solichah Wahid Hasyim's enduring legacy as a role model for contemporary Muslim women leaders in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article examines the historical establishment of Fort Speelwijk as a symbol of Dutch and Banten Sultanate relations. The study aims to explore cultural acculturation and shifts in governance arising from their interaction. This research uses the historical method, including heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Built in Dutch architectural style by Hendrik Lucaz Cardeel and named after Governor-General Cornelis Janszoon Speelman, the fort functioned as the VOC's representative office in Banten. The findings reveal cultural acculturation in construction techniques, including brick and coral stone reinforced with lime, reflecting the local concept of “Gawe Kuta Baluwarti Bata Kalawan Kawis.” Economically, the VOC’s tax imposition led to rising commodity prices, burdening locals and weakening the Sultanate’s economic sovereignty. Additionally, the study explores local myths surrounding the fort, such as the story of Catharina Maria Van Doorn. After its 1994 restoration, Fort Speelwijk emerged as a prominent historical and educational tourism site.
