Abstract

Digital literacy is critical in the current era of digitalization. However, several studies show that digital literacy in Indonesia still needs to be improved and strengthened. Less than optimal digital literacy can impact low student learning outcomes. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the effect of the Reading Concept Mapping Think Pair Share (Remap -TPS) learning model assisted by the Xmind application to improve digital literacy and student learning outcomes. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 9 Malang, Lowokwaru, East Java, Indonesia, in the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. This research is a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest non-equivalent design. Respondents in this study were classes X Science 3 and X Science 4 with 70 students. Data was collected through questionnaires to measure digital literacy and essay questions to measure learning outcomes. The research results show that the Remap-TPS learning model significantly affects digital literacy and student learning outcomes. This indicates that the Remap-TPS model, assisted by the Xmind application, can be an alternative solution in designing learning processes to empower digital literacy and student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The 21st-century skills needed by students today are science literacy and collaboration skills. One model that can empower science literacy and collaboration skills is the Complexity Science Problem-Based Learning (CS-PBL) model. The CS-PBL model is supported by the GitMind application, which addresses the limitations of CS-PBL by leveraging technology for collaboration. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the CS-PBL model assisted by GitMind on science literacy and collaboration skills of high school students in biology learning. Independent variables in this study were the CS-PBL model assisted by GitMind as an experimental group, the PBL model as a positive control, and conventional learning as a negative control. The dependent variables in this study are science literacy and collaboration skills. The research was conducted at SMAN 6 Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The population of the study was Grade XI students who were in the odd semester of the 2024/2025 school year. The sample taken from the population was grade XI students, consisting of 3 Biology specialization classes. The quasi-experimental research design used a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. Students were given a pretest and a posttest in the experimental group and control group using the same instrument. Data were collected using essay tests to measure science literacy, questionnaires, and observation sheets to measure collaboration skills. Data were analyzed using a one-way ANCOVA test and followed by an LSD test before the ANCOVA test, a prerequisite test was conducted, namely a normality test and a homogeneity test. Novelty/new findings in this research are the integration of the CS-PBL model with GitMind. The results showed that the CS-PBL model assisted by GitMind was more effective in improving students' science literacy and collaboration skills than PBL and conventional learning, with the highest increase of 88.11% for science literacy and 88.53% for collaboration. Suggestions for the implementation of the CS-PBL model assisted by GitMind need to provide a more in-depth explanation of the description of the mind map task to students before learning.

Abstract

Shrimp paste is a commonly employed condiment or flavoring in culinary preparations. As a result of the nutrients present in shrimp paste, fungi and other microbial contaminants are able to proliferate and develop on the paste. This study aims as follows: 1) to determine ALT measurements of mold colonies to assess the quality of two brands of pre-treated shrimp paste; and 2) to identify contaminating mold species present in steamed and unsteamed shrimp paste prior to storage. Descriptive quantitative and qualitative research methods were employed within the Biology Department of FMIPA UM's Microbiology Laboratory. A series of three samplings were conducted on treated shrimp paste brands A and B, one week apart between each sampling. A volume of 90 ml of 0.1% peptone water was used to dissolve 10 grams of shrimp paste, resulting in a dilution of 10-1; this process was repeated until the dilution reached 10-5. 0. The surface of PDA (Potato Dextrose Agar) medium was inoculated with 1 ml of suspension from each dilution. The medium was subsequently incubated at a temperature of 25oC for 7x24 hours. The findings of this study indicate the following: 1) At the 28th day of storage, both brands of shrimp paste that underwent treatment with steamed and unsteamed shrimp paste remained of acceptable quality for human consumption. 2) In steamed and unsteamed shrimp paste, thirteen species of mold contaminants were identified: Chrysosporium corda, Cladosporium sphaerospermum, Penicillium frequentans, Penicillium chrysogenum, Rhizoctonia sp1., Aspergillus candidus, Fusarium equeseti, Colletotrichum ti, Moniliella acetobutens, and Rhizoctonia sp3
