Abstract

Telah dilakukan ujicoba pembuatan minyak beriodium oral dengan bahan baku minyak jagung. Pembuatan dilakukan menurut metoda Wijs. Pengukuran kandungan iodium produk yang dihasilkan dilakukan dengan cara-cara gravimetri dan cara fotometri. Uji keefektifan minyak beriodium yang dihasilkan dilakukan pada domba. Kadar iod minyak yang dihasilkan rata-rata 3,7 g I/10 ml, dibanding 4,7 g/10 ml dalam lipidol. Pola ekskresi iodium dalam urin domba yang diberi minyak beriodium buatan sendiri mirip dengan pola ekskresi iodium dalam urin domba yang diberi lipidol. Jika disimpan tanpa tutup pada suhu biasa, dalam tiga hari warna minyak beriodium buatan sendiri telah berubah dari kuning kecoklatan menjadi coklat hitam dan makin hari makin hhitam. Juga ditemukan kesulitan cara memisahkan kelebihan pereaksi maupun iodium yang ditambahkan.

Abstract

Dalam upaya mendapatkan cara pendistibusian tablet besi untuk wanita hamil, dilakukan penelitian ujicoba dengan menggunakan empat cara distribusi. Masing-masing cara terdiri atas tiga kegiatan yang sama tetapi berbeda frekuensinya, yaitu pembagian tablet besi, penuluhan anemi gizi dan kunjungan rumah (supervisi). Pada cara (A), pembagian tablet dan penyuluhan anemi gizi dilakukan sekali seminggu dan kunjungan rumah sekali dua hari. Pada cara (B), (C) dan (D), frekuensi kegiatan, secara berturut mansing-masing sekali seminggu, sekali dua minggu dan sekali empat minggu (sebulan). Keefektifan cara distribusi ditentukan berdasarkan perbandingan masukan (frekuensi kegiatan) dan keluaran (jumlah tablet yang diminum, kenaikan kadar hemoglobin dan peningkatan pengetahuan gizi). Kegiatan distribusi dengan frekuensi sekali dua minggu (C) merupakan alternatif pilihan yang terefektif diantara keempat cara distribusi yang diujicobakan.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian pengaruh pemberian konsentrat minyak kelapa sawit pada mencit terhadap status vitamin A dan perkembangan kanker mammae. Mencit strain C3H dikelompokkan menjadi 7 kelompok perlakuan dengan 6 kali ulangan. Masing-masing perlakuan adalah (1) Kontrol tanpa diberi apa-apa. (2) Kontrol, dicekok minyak 0.1 ml/hari selama 14 hari. (3) Kontrol, dicekok minyak 0.1 ml/hari selama penelitian. (4) Dicekok karotin 120 ug (0.1 ml)/hari selama 14 hari. (5) Dicekok karotin 120 ug (0.1 ml)/hari selama penelitian. (6) Dicekok karotin 500 ug (0.1 ml)/hari selama 14 hari. (7) Dicekok karotin 500 ug (0.1 ml)/hari selama penelitian. Makanan untuk semua kelompok adalah makanan basal dalam bentuk pellet dan diberikan ad libitum. Pengambilan darah dilakukan pada hari pertama setelah pencekokan, pengambilan kedua bersamaan dengan inokulasi bibit kanker dan pengambilan ketiga pada akhir penelitian atau pada waktu terjadi perubahan pada pertumbuhan kanker sesudah inokulasi. Inokulasi bibit kanker dengan cara disuntikkan secara sub cutis di daerah axilla. Pengamatan pada mencit dilakukan terhadap pembesaran tumor, dengan mengukur besar tumor menggunakan caliper. Pemeriksaan histopatologis dilakukan terhadap jaringan tumor. Kadar vitamin A serum, tertinggi didapatkan pada kelompok yang diberi 500 ug karotin/hari selama penelitian yaitu sebesar (40.69 ± 4.48) ug/dl dibandingkan dengan kelompok tanpa diberi apa-apa (17.28 ± 0.99) ug/dl. Ukuran tumor terkecil juga didapatkan pada kelompok yang diberi 500 ug karotin/hari selama penelitian yaitu (5.38 ± 3.85) cm3, dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol (9.50 ± 5.72) cm3. Keadaan ini menunjukkan bahwa konsentrat minyak kelapa sawit dapat meningkatkan status vitamin A dan menghambat terjadinya perkembangan kanker mammae. Hasil ini diperkuat dengan pemeriksaan mikroskopis dari sel tumor yang menunjukkan deferesiasi lebih baik pada kelompok yang diberi karotin dengan takaran lebih tinggi dan waktu lebih lama.

Abstract

Effects of Solid Fermentation on Protein Content and Amino Acid Composition of Cassava.This study was carried out to assess the protein and amino acid quantity of solid fermentation of cassava (Manihot esculenta) using pure culture of the Rhizopus oligosporus and traditional inoculum (laru). The protein content of the fermented product was analyzed by Biuret method, and the animo acid composition by HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) method. The results showed that solid fermentation of cassava increased the protein content from 2.1% to 4.0% and 4.7%. The animo acid contents of the fermented product increased 2.5 folds of that of cassava. Higher increase was seen in substrates fermented with traditional inoculum. This is due to the addition of coconut oil and ammonium to the cassava substrate which improved the growth of mold.Key words: cassava (Manihot esculenta), food fermentation, protein content, amino acid composition

Abstract

Effectiveness of High Dose Vitamin A Supplementation on The Recovery Rate and Immune Status of Underfive Children Suffering From Tuberculosis.Tuberculosis (TB), the infectious disease, is still one of the health problems in Indonesia. TB does not just make the people sick physically, but also interfere the immunity. As we have known that vitamin A can improve the immunity. The aimed of this randomized double blind study was to know the effect of high dose vitamin A on the improvement, immune status and the relationship between vitamin A and immune status in TB. Sixtyfive underfive children were selected from the Pediatrics Wards for out patient in Salak and Clsarua Hospital. They were grouped into 11 treatment group who received standard regimen therapy for TB plus high dose vitamin A in each month for 6 months and 21 control group who received the same TB regimen plus placebo also in each month for 6 months. Data on physical examination, weight, height, hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Ht), blood sedimen rate (BSR), serum vitamin A, immunoglobulin G (IgG) to TB, chest X ray (CXR) and food consumption were collected before and after (6 months) intervention. Information on morbidity and socioeconomic also were recorded. To evaluate the degree of improvement, score on nutritional status, BSR and CXR were made. The results showed that after 6 month there were improvement in anthropometry status, morbidity rate, Hb, Ht, BSR, IgG and CXR for both groups. The treatment group was improved in 7.2% subjects meanwhile the control group was improved in 58% subjects. Analysis for scoring improvement showed that the treatment group had better improvement 2,4 times than the control group. The conclusions are that the high dose vitamin A has a positive effect on the recovery and immune status of underfive children suffering TB. This study suggests to give high dose vitamin A to the regimen therapy for TB in children to get better results.Keywords: tuberculosis, vitamin A supplementation, IgG, recovery rate.

Abstract

It had been conducted a study on "The Effect of Weekly Iron Supplementation on The Status of Hb and Iron among School Children Receiving PMT-AS". The main objective of the study was to investigate the effect of iron tablets supplementation to iron status of school children receiving PMT-AS. The subjects of this study was primary school children in the fourth, fifth and sicth grades in six schools receiving PMT-AS in sub-district of Sidomulyo, south Lampung. The schools were randomly assigned into three groups. The first group received iron tablets given by school teacher. The second group received iron tablets given by school teacher and under supervision of researcher (nutritionist), and the third group was control. Iron tablets containing 60 mg elemental iron were given weekly for the duration of 4.5 months. The results of study showed: 1. The percentage of anemia subjects at the begining of study in group I, II, III were 60.0%, 58.0%, and 55.1% respectively. 2. Weekly Iron Supplementatioon reduced significantly the percentage of anemia subjects (p<0.05). 3. Weekly Iron Supplementation increased Hb status and iron status significantly (p<0.05). 4. Iron tablets distribution conducted by the school teacher without supervision was as effective as iron tablets distribution under supervision of researcher.Keywords: anemia, PMT-AS (School Feeding Program), iron tablet, hemoglobin status.

Abstract

THE EFFECT OF VITAMIN A AND IRON ADDED INTO IODIZED SALT ON NUTRITION STATUS AND LEARNING CONCENTRATION OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN.Background: It was assumed that in some areas of Indonesia previously recognized as area of endemic goitre, thenutrition problem in that area became more complex due to crisis of economy. Probably some people in that area not only suffering from 100 but also vitamin A and iron deficiency. In this condition intervention of multinutrient is more reasonable than of single nutrient in improving nutrition status.Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of vitamin A and iron added into iodized salt on iodine status and learning concentration of elementary school children in moderate endemic goiter area.Methods: The study design was "field trial". Study sites covered two subdistricts, namely Nagak subdistrict and Pelabuhan ratu subdistrict of Sukabumi District, West Java. A total of 221 boys and girls students in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades with positive goitre at grade I, by palpation were randomly assigned into four groups. Each group received different treatment. Group I received iodized salt (43 ppm of Iodine) + 180 ppm of vitamin A (A formula), group II received iodized salt (52 ppm) + 1500 ppm of iron (8 formula), group III received iodized salt only (37 ppm) (C formula) and group IV received iodized salt only (20 ppm). Data evaluation was collected 18 week after intervention.Results: The result of study revealed that proportion of goitre measured by palpation decreased in all groups, group I (14%), group II (7%), group III (21%) as well as group IV (19%). The increment of serum tetraiodotirosine (thyroxine) hormone (T4) of group II (5.02 ug/dl) and group I (4.60 ug/dl) were significantly higher than that of group Ill (2.04 ug/dl) or group IV (2.91 ug/dl). There were no significant differences in the increment of serum triiodotirosine hormone (T3) among group. The haemoglobin level of group II increased (0.36 g/dl), while group I and group IV were slightly decreased. The proportion of student suffering from anemia in group I decreased (25%), while in the other groups increased (4.3% to 9.8%).Conclusions: The increment of T4 was not followed by improvement of learning concentration measured by using 'Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children" method.Keywords: 100 (Iodine deficiency disorder), nutrition status; iodine status; learning concentration; endemic goitre area; palpation; tetraiodotirosine (thyroxine); triiodotirosine; Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children".
