Abstract

The problem mostly experienced by EFL students is the assumption of difficulty in reading English texts. Thus educators are always looking for the best teaching approach methods to develop skills, especially in reading skills.  The present study mainly describes the students’ voices about using SQ3R in improving reading skills in the Indonesian higher education context. This study belongs to a descriptive qualitative study. Data were gathered through observation and interviews with students. The results of the study demonstrate that most students believe that the existence of the SQ3R method can have an impact on the learning process of students. It has benefits including improving students' reading comprehension skills, increasing high curiosity, and being able to provide experiences of understanding discourse more easily.

Abstract

Parenting is the interaction process between parents and early childhood to instill and develop early childhood’s characters through natural since early age. The present study aims to analyze parenting styles applied by the parents to develop the early childhood’s independent character. In addition, this study employed a case study at which the reseachers gathered the data through observation and interview towards 13 early childhoods and 13 mother (parents) as the respondents. The results of the study revealed that 61,54% of the respondents apply positive parenting style to develop their early childhood’s independent character, 23,08% of the respondents apply permissive parenting style to develop their early childhood’s independent character, and 15,38% of the respondents apply mixed parenting style (positive and permissive parenting styles) to develop their early childhood’s independent character. Thus, the majority of the respondents apply positive parenting style to develop the early childhood’s independent character at home. In conclusion, the 3 parenting styles can be collaborated each other by the parents based on the characteristics of the early childhood, the tasks given, and also the situation.

Abstract

Characters are closely related to morality which is underpinned on the moral strength based on the value system instilled as early as possible in a family. The study aims to discuss the Qur’anic methods used to instill the early childhood’s characters in a family. To gain the data, the researchers employ qualitative method under descriptive approach. In addition, to analyse the data, it is used content analysis technique. The results of the study assert that characters education needs to be taught and instilled as early as possible to early childhood at home. Through the education, the parents need an enormous efforts to instill characters education to the early childhood. One of the efforts is using the Qur’anic methods used to instill the early childhood’s characters in a family. The Qur’anic methods consist of the Amtsal method, the Kisah (story) method, the Ibrah Mauidzah method, the Targhib wa Tarhib method, the Tajribi method, the Uswah Hasanah method, and the Hiwar method. In conclusion, instilling characters to early childhood in a family needs the suitable methods, so that its implementation is going to be in harmony with planning and achieve the goal to create early childhood to be ‘Insan Kamil’.

Abstract

Smart classroom-based learning is a digital learning concept that combines the integrated digital technology and information system to improve the quality of learning process and interaction between lecturers and students. The study aims to identify benefits, difficulties, and solutions towards the implementation of smart classroom-based learning for the students at Islamic private higher education in Ciamis, West Java, Indonesia during participating the lecturing process. The study employs qualitative method under a case study. The findings of this study show that the implementation of smart classroom-based learning at Islamic private higher education in Ciamis, West Java is very useful for the students during participating the lecturing process. The evidences are shown by the percentage of 67.71%. In addition, (2) the most difficulties faced by the students during participating the lecturing process through the implementation of smart classroom-based learning is they cannot operate laptop and available digital tools. The evidences are shown by the percentage of 37.5%. Finally, the most solutions chosen by the students are asking for help to the IT staffs. These evidences are shown by the percentage of 41.67%. In conclusion, the implementation of smart classroom-based learning is very useful to support the quality of lecturing process at Islamic private higher education in Ciamis, West Java, Indonesia.

Abstract

Early childhood discipline is the obedience character possessed by early childhood to apply rules or norms. The present study aims to find out the teachers’ strategy and the realization of the implementation of the teachers’ strategy to develop early childhood’s discipline in early childhood education in Kawasen, Banjarsari, Ciamis. This study uses a qualitative method under the Phenomenological approach. The results of the study show that there are two strategies carried out by the teachers: habituation and giving rewards strategies. The habituation strategy is carried out by the teachers, such as: the teachers motivate the early childhood; the teachers guide the early childhood by directing and inviting to behave disciplinedly; the teachers provide an understanding to do discipline; and the teachers instill the values of discipline character to the early childhood. Then, the giving rewards strategy is carried out by the teachers, such as: the teachers give star stickers; the teachers give praise to the early childhood who behave discipline; the teachers invite highs, so that the early childhood feel happy when they behave discipline.

Abstract

The Independent Curriculum is a curriculum giving teachers the flexibility to determine learning media according to the students’ learning needs and interests. This study aims to find out the implementation of the Independent Curriculum and the factors that support the success in learning Islamic Religious Education in elementary school. The method used in this study is a qualitative under a case study approach. The results of the study show that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in PAI education in grade 1 MI NU 03 Kebonagung is in the form of the students learn to know, recite, memorize the Alfatihah letter and its verse numbers, the students know the content of the Alfatihah letter, and practice in daily life. In addition, the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in PAI learning in grade 4 MI NU 03 Kebonagung in the form of the students are able to recite the letters of Allahab and Attakatsur correctly, the students are able to write the letters of Allahab correctly, the students are able to express opinions about the meaning of the letters of Attakatsur, and the students understand the content of the letter Alma'un and its practice in the real life. The supporting factors for the successful implementation of the Independent Curriculum in PAI learning at MI NU 03 Kebonagung include: the teachers' understanding of the implementation of the Independent Curriculum, classroom management, principal leadership, financing, facilities and infrastructure, and the students’ readiness.

Abstract

The development of religious and moral values is the ability of early childhood to act and behave according to the religious and moral values he/she embraced. This study aims to find out the effect of using Youtube to instill religious and moral values for early childhood in Kober El Karim, and to find out the benefits of using Youtube for early childhood in Kober El Karim. The method used in this study is a qualitative under a phenomenological approach. The results of this study showed that the use of Youtube has an effect to instill religious and moral values for early childhood in Kober El Karim in the form: the early childhoods read basmalah in every activity, the early childhoods feel more enthusiastic to pray before and after studying, before and after eating snacks, and before going home. In addition, the early childhoods try to tell honestly and maintain noble characters while at school. In addition, the use of Youtube for early childhoods at Kober El Karim is useful in fostering their creativity according to what they watch, developing their motor aspect, and increasing their linguistic vocabulary. In conclusion, the use of Youtube has positive effect to instill religious and moral values for the early childhoods in Kober El Karim, Ciamis Regency.

Abstract

Vision and mission are the main parts which should be formulated, socialized, understood together, and implemented collectively and consistently to achieve the goals of an institution. This study aims to identify the vision and mission formulated and socialized at Islamic college Putra Galuh Ciamis. In this study, the researchers used qualitative approach under phenomenological method. The results of the study showed that the vision and mission were formulated and socialized within 6 stages: forming a team to develop the vision and mission of Islamic college Putra Galuh Ciamis; preparing a draft of the vision and mission plan for Islamic college Putra Galuh Ciamis; revising the draft that has been designed; creating harmony between the vision, mission, goals, and programs conducted at Islamic college Putra Galuh Ciamis; making decision by listening the inputs from the lecturers, the students, the users and other stakeholders in a forum taken place at Islamic college Putra Galuh Ciamis; and socializing the vision, mission, goals and programs to the whole academic community at Islamic college Putra Galuh Ciamis. In addition, the barrier factors at which vision and mission are hardly known and understood by the whole stakeholders, including: lack of awareness of each academic community to memorize well the vision and mission that had been socialized; the socialization of the vision and mission has not been conducted sustainably; and the vision and mission that have been socialized have not been posted in every room, so that the whole students have not read them. The new findings as the novelty of the present study is in the form of the supporting factors as the solutions to overcome the barrier factors. Those supporting factors include: the setting of banners containing the vision and mission of Islamic college Putra Galuh Ciamis were taken place in the leaders’ rooms, lecturers’ room, and administration room; the vision and mission are written in the student's thesis writing guidebook; and the vision and mission were also posted in the website of Islamic college Putra Galuh Ciamis, so that it can be easily accessed by online.

Abstract

One of the efforts to improve early childhood’s aged 5-6 years fine motor skill can be carried out through origami game. This study aims to find out the implementation of origami game, obstacles, and solutions for the implementation of origami game to develop early childhood’s aged 5-6 years fine motor skill in Kober Al Hidayah. In this study, the researchers employ a qualitative approach under a phenomenological method. The results of the study show that the implementation of origami game run well which could assist to develop early childhood’s aged 5-6 years fine motor skill at Kober Al Hidayah. Furthermore, there are obstacles in the implementation of origami game, such as some early childhoods still have difficulties to produce an origami result from paper independently. To overcome the difficulties, a drilling technique is used combined with a mentoring strategy and rewards in the form of praise and giving stars. As a result, the use of drilling techniques, mentoring strategies, and providing rewards can be a solution to overcome the difficulties faced by some early childhoods. In conclusion, origami game combined with drilling techniques and accompanied by teachers diligently, besides given rewards in the form of praise and giving stars can assist to develop early childhood’s aged 5-6 years fine motor skill at Kober Al Hidayah.

Abstract

One of the efforts to result qualified generation is to instill religious and moral values to early childhood since early age. This study aims to find out how to implement learning religious and moral values through the habituation method in PAUD Al-Barkah, and what strategies are used by teachers to implement learning religious and moral values through the habituation method at PAUD Al-Barkah. The method used in this study is a classroom action research (CAR). The results of this study show that the implementation of learning religious and moral values through habituation method to early childhood is categorized very good. This is referring to the increase on the average score in the pre-cycle by 56.5% to 69.8% in the cycle I, and the average score increased to 84.8% in the cycle 2. In addition, the implementation of learning religious and moral values through habituation method has a positive impact on the entire early chidlhoods on the indicators: doing worship, behaving honestly and politely, maintaining personal and environmental cleanliness, and knowing religious days. To conclude that the use of habituation method has positive and significant impact on applying religious and moral values to early childhood at PAUD Al-Barkah.
