Abstract

This research investigates passengers' perceptions regarding the implementation of integrated railway Quick-response Code mobile payment systems. Their perception of the technology is crucial for determining the main factors that influence technology acceptance in transport tariff integration sector. The research locations are in Jakarta (Jaklingko application) and United Kingdom (Trainline application). The method used in this research was the technology acceptance model. The model was used to identify the construct and indicator variables hypothesized to influence acceptance. The model's dependability was then evaluated using the partial least squares – structural equation modelling method. After the model had been evaluated for dependability, it was tested on the determined hypothesis to determine factors that could increase passenger acceptance of the application. The analysis revealed that the technology acceptance model extension factors which influent the model were self-efficacy, informativeness, result demonstrability, subjective norms and perceived risk. This study's findings also suggest that policies implement travel behavior interventions, distribute information, instructing transportation operators to conduct targeted advertisement technology and comply with network security standards can increase technology acceptance. These results support previous research concerning the core concept of technology acceptance model but also found differences with several previous studies, namely that perceived risk does not influence perceived ease of use because the most significant concern of mobile telecommunication users is failure transactions. Moreover, the indicator difference between the two application models demonstrates that each technology implementation is unique and that there may be disparities in the indicators representing the model's construct variables.

Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized information gathering and daily activities, particularly in train operations. However, the implementation of IoT in Indonesia has not been optimally used, leading to delays in train location information. This research aims to explore the application of IoT for train location tracking systems in two countries, namely the UK as a developed country that adopts technology more quickly compared to Indonesia. This study employs qualitative methods with case studies approach to analyze IoT implementation in train tracking in Indonesia and the UK, focusing on regulations, and technology which support train tracking systems. Several research has discussed about how to use IoT in designing systems to produce train locations information and how this can help improve the safety of train operations. The originality in this research is exploration of how the implementation of IoT related to train tracking has been utilized and the benefits that have been felt by each stakeholder in both countries. The UK has implemented privatization, which has positively impacted infrastructure development. In addition, Office of Rail and Road (ORR) as an independent organization in UK regulates passenger information conveyed by train and station operators. In contrast, Indonesia's infrastructure is owned by the government and managed by KAI, the passenger train and station operator for mostly intercity train. The Ministry of Transportation supervises operators, implementing regulations from construction to operations. The comparison results indicate that specific regulations, data openness, and Darwin system in UK are the factors in real-time train information provision.

Abstract

Freight transportation has a positive effect on the development, on the other hand, transportation also has negative impacts that need to be considered. Rail as a mode that has the potential to be a solution is still little used compared to trucks. This research aims to investigate the weighting factors and actors in Indonesia to encourage the shift of freight transport modes from trucks to railways, to know the constrain the utilization of railways as a mode of freight transportation and provide policy recommendations by benchmarking from other countries. The research was carried out using qualitative and quantitative methodologies. A qualitative approach was carried out through a literature review covering various countries and sources, and interviews with experts. The analytic hierarchy process is formulated for quantitative analysis and executed with Expert Choice software. Data was collected through a questionnaire, with a purposive sampling method. The results show that Time, Service Quality and Area Coverage are considered as the 3 main factors with the highest weight. Government and Logistics Service Providers are the most influential actors in promoting the shift of freight from trucks to trains. Recommendations for priority policies are policies related to factors and involving actors with the greatest weight, and overcoming the obstacles that exist in Indonesia in using trains as a mode of freight transportation by increasing modal transfer facilities to increase the efficiency of freight transportation via train, with support from the government in the form of incentives as has been done by the Britain Railway.

Abstract

Manggarai Station serves as a transit hub for both commuter and airport trains, making it the busiest and the most crowded train station in Jakarta. This situation can lead to safety and security issues. This research was conducted to assess the safety and security facilities at Manggarai railway station and determine their compliance with the Minimum Service Standards for Railway Passenger Transport, comparing them with passengers' perceptions of the safety and security facilities. The analytical methods used in this research were crosstab analysis and Importance Performance Analysis (IPA). Crosstab analysis was employed to examine the relationship between respondents' socio-demographic characteristic and travel characteristics, as well as their relationship with safety and security variables at the station. IPA was used to assess the quality of safety and security facility performance at Manggarai Station based on passengers' perceptions. The research findings indicated that several safety and security facilities at Manggarai Station unable to meet the Minimum Service Standards for Railway Passenger Transport. These included wide gaps between platforms and train bodies, uneven platform and train floors, inadequate information and assembly points, and narrow and obstructed pathways within the station. According to passengers' perceptions, there were five attributes of safety and security facility performance that had low ratings: gaps between platforms and train bodies, platform and train floors, escalators, assembly points, and barriers between platforms and trains. safety, security, manggarai station, passenger perseptions, minimum service standards

Abstract

The integration of intermodal transportation services is a strategic necessity for improving the quality of urban transportation services. To realize the integration of services, it should be focused on the main transportation nodes in an area, such as Poris Plawad Terminal and Batu Ceper Station in the Poris Plawad Area, Tangerang City. This study aims to evaluate and determine strategies for improving the integration of intermodal transportation services in the Poris Plawad Area. The results of this study are expected to provide consideration for stakeholders to encourage the use of public transportation and realize the successful development of the Poris Plawad Area in the future. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with a total sample size of 202 respondents. Respondent data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to users of transportation services at Poris Plawad Terminal and Batu Ceper Station, as well as residents who are active within a radius of 800 meters from the terminal and station. This research uses the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) and Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) methods. The results of the IPA analysis show that there are five service variables that are considered important but low-performing, so they need to be prioritized for improvement, including the provision of pedestrian crossing facilities, the provision of proper sidewalks, disturbance-free pavement quality, and access into and out of the node that is free from traffic conflicts. Recommended solutions based on TRIZ principles include building a sky bridge and closing the south entrance for access into and out of the station; building a sidewalk connected to the node that is built higher than the road surface and uses high-quality materials; placing sidewalk bollards; and permanently closing the station access point that passes through the railway level crossing. These improvements are expected to enhance accessibility, safety, and walkability, encouraging greater public transport use and aligning with the area’s Transit Oriented Development goals.

Abstract

Coal is an important commodity for Jambi Province. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, in the first quarter of 2022, the value of coal exports reached 10.75% of the total export value. Apart from being exported, coal commodity is also used for domestic purposes. The transport used at this time is only through public roads. The use of these routes results in many problems such as traffic accidents, congestion, and social conflicts. Therefore, the number of vehicles allowed to pass on public roads is limited. This has resulted in the production target plan not being achieved, only 17.3 million tonnes out of 40 million tonnes in 2022. Hence the need for other routes for transport such as rivers, special roads, and railways. This research is intended to analyse coal transport trips using trucks, barges and railways. This research discusses the closest route, mode selection, and transport costs based on the distance travelled and the travel time of each mode. The search for the closest travel route is done by spatial analysis with Network Analyst on ArcGIS. Mode choice was analysed using the multinomial logit method. Meanwhile, transport costs are calculated based on the principle of generalised cost. Modelling results on the selection of mode, during the rainy season the most efficient mode is barging with a selected probability of 44%, while rail 28% and transport by truck 27%. During the dry season, the probability of transport by railway is 93%, barge 4% and truck 3%. The results indicate that the most efficient mode during the rainy season is barging and during the dry season transport by railway.
