Abstract

Environmental infrastructure planning that is effective and appropriate plays an important role in increasing the productivity of fishing communities and supporting sustainable regional development. Kampung Nelayan Seberang Belawan, where the majority of residents depend on the fisheries sector, requires better environmental infrastructure planning to support fishing activities and improve community welfare. This study aims to analyze the existing infrastructure conditions, identify environmental infrastructure needs, and formulate appropriate strategies for environmental infrastructure planning to enhance fishermen's urgent productivity and support regional development. The research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach, interviews, and direct observation. The results show that the current environmental infrastructure is inadequate. Coastal protection infrastructure, such as wave barriers and mangrove planting, is crucial for maintaining environmental resilience and preventing damage caused by abrasion and natural disasters. Proper management of waste and domestic wastewater will also improve environmental quality and public health. The provision of better educational and health facilities will improve the quality of life for fishing communities and create opportunities for a more creative and technologically literate younger generation. This has a positive impact on the environmental infrastructure planning of Kampung Nelayan Seberang in regional development. The planning of environmental infrastructure in Kampung Nelayan Seberang constitutes a strategic key in developing competitive coastal areas. The success of this arrangement greatly depends on multi-party collaboration, sustainable planning, and policy support for marginal areas. By maximizing strengths and opportunities and mitigating weaknesses and threats, this area can grow into an inclusive and productive community.

Abstract

Protecting sustainable food agricultural land is an important component as a forerunner in recommendations for the demolition of space as a food crop area plan, especially in Southeast Aceh Regency which has great potential in the agricultural sector. This research aims to analyze the challenges and opportunities in integrating urban development and agricultural land conservation, as well as providing strategic recommendations in determining the Regional Spatial Planning (RTRW) in Southeast Aceh Regency. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study in Southeast Aceh Regency. This research involves agricultural extension workers as executors in collecting data and filling in agricultural attributes based on actual conditions in the field which will later be processed into spatial data to become spatial data on potential land in Southeast Aceh Regency. The data analysis method was carried out using content analysis techniques to identify relevant main themes. This research involves the working group (Pokja) on sustainable food agricultural land (LP2B) as stakeholders who provide input regarding policies, directions and technical provisions in recommendations for the protection of sustainable food agricultural land. Current zoning policies and Regional Spatial Planning (RTRW) are not yet fully effective in protecting agricultural land. The government needs to strengthen regulations and introduce economic incentives to encourage farmers to defend their land. The establishment of conservation areas is also important to maintain biodiversity and important ecosystems. A sustainable development approach through Smart Growth strategies and green infrastructure can reduce urban land expansion and improve environmental quality. Community participation in the spatial planning process is also very important. Public involvement through consultation forums and environmental education programs can increase awareness of the importance of protecting agricultural land. The use of technology such as geographic information systems and remote sensing is very helpful in monitoring land use changes and planning sustainable urban development. This technology enables accurate spatial data management to support decision making. The strategic recommendations provided include strengthening agricultural land protection regulations, providing economic incentives to farmers, adopting sustainable development principles in spatial planning, and increasing environmental education programs. In addition, the use of geographic information system technology must be optimized for effective land mapping and monitoring. In conclusion, protecting food agricultural land in determining RTRW in Southeast Aceh Regency requires a holistic approach that includes appropriate policies, good planning, community participation and use of technology. With this approach, urban development can take place in a sustainable manner without sacrificing land which is important for food security and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Tourism is a potential source of local income, and can enhance a city's identity. Tourism in an area is of good value, it will also accelerate the development of that area. This acceleration can be achieved when the level of visits to the area increases and will ultimately increase economic activity. This potential can be maximized so that a city can become a tourist destination with its own characteristics, whether it is natural tourism, historical tourism or cultural tourism. According to the Medan City RTRW for 2010-2030, it is stated that the old city center area of Medan Labuhan District is a Nature Reserve and Cultural Heritage Area. Therefore, this study focuses on the concept of tourism in Medan Labuhan District. This study uses a subjective method with an inventory approach and identification of potential and related problems, analysis and ultimately providing strategic recommendations and regional planning plans.

Abstract

Traditional markets play a central role in the local economic system and the social life of communities, particularly in Medan City. However, the dynamics of urbanization, competition from modern retail, and changes in consumer behavior have posed significant challenges to their sustainability. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the strategic location of traditional markets and their economic performance using a mixed-methods approach and spatial analysis. The research focuses on six traditional markets in Medan City: Petisah Market, Sukaramai Market, Beruang Market, Ikan Lama Market, Sei Sikambing Market, and Pringgan Market. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires using a Likert scale and analyzed descriptively and correlationally, while qualitative data were gathered through field observations and in-depth interviews to interpret the socio-spatial context of each market. The key variables include accessibility, commodity diversity, and environmental comfort, which are linked to economic performance indicators such as visitor numbers, buyer loyalty, and sales stability. The results show that Petisah, Pringgan, and Ikan Lama Markets scored highest in these variables and demonstrated better economic performance. Correlation analysis identified commodity diversity as the most influential factor on economic performance, followed by environmental quality and accessibility. To strengthen the analysis, a SWOT model was also applied to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats faced by traditional markets. This analysis reveals that the primary strengths of the markets lie in their location and social interaction, while the main challenges stem from a lack of modern management and pressure from digital markets. This study recommends development strategies based on local advantages, infrastructure modernization, market information digitalization, and cultural promotion as steps to sustainably enhance the competitiveness of traditional markets amid urban spatial changes.
