Abstract

The increase in population every year and the relatively high economic growth in Balikpapan City have had a negative impact on the environment related to the use of water resources. Human activities in the protected forest areas have caused degradation and deforestation of protected forest areas resulting in the three rivers currently unable to meet water needs during the dry season. This study aims to assess the feasibility of river water in the Sungai Wain protected forest in terms of quantity and quality as an effort to provide alternative sources of raw water for the development of urban facilities.  Analysis of water samples was carried out at the Regional Health Laboratory, Balikpapan City Health Office. The results showed that the Wain river water discharge was 0.334 m3/s, the Bugis river was 0.258 m3/s, while the Sengkuang river was 0.032 m3/s. The physical quality of water from the three rivers meets the standards of environmental health quality standards. The chemical quality of water indicates the pH and iron parameters do not meet environmental health quality standards. The biological quality of water indicates the total number of coliform in Bugis river is 920; Wain River 350, and Sengkuang River 350. The results of analysis of Escherecia coli bacteria showed that the content of Escherecia coli bacteria exceeded the maximum allowed amount.  The results of this research can be taken into consideration for the Balikpapan city government to plan the development of river water utilization in the Sungai Wain protected forest area.

Abstract

The life of humankind has a close relationship with its surrounding forests. The interaction /relationship is often in a lame and brings a negative impact on the forest. The impacts of these unbalanced relationships are the destruction of all production, conservation and protection areas of forests. This study aimed to identify the  anthropogenic damages in Mutis Timau protected forest areas. This research was a qualitative research with a  descriptive approach using a purposive sampling and a snowball sampling technique. The purposive sampling was used to select resource persons of the FMU chiefs, forest police staff, retired FMU employees and village heads where the samples were undertaken. While the   snowball sampling technique was set according to a snowball pattern that began with the village leaders (village heads) and then progressed to other resource persons to obtain accurate information related to anthropogenic activities that caused forest destruction. The number of sources of informants were 62 people.  Methods of data collection in this study include observation methods, indepth interviews and documentation. The preliminary research results indicate that the  anthropogenic damages in Mutis Timau protected forest areas include forest encroachment, livestock grazing, shifting cultivation and forest fires, and illegal logging. Anthropogenic damage can be resolved by the management by involving community participation through joint forest management (collaborative) and can be conducted by using the social   forestry systems

Abstract

The mangrove forest in East Luwuk has been damaged. resulting in a reduction in area. The parties involved in ensuring that you are not optimal so that the condition of the mangrove remains degraded. This research was conducted to identify the stakeholders involved in the management, analyze the role of stakeholders and describe the relationship between stakeholders in mangrove forest management. The research was conducted in the East Luwuk mangrove forest, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. The results showed that the Key Players had not made a mangrove forest management plan which resulted in a lack of synergy in the activities carried out by the managers. In order for mangroves to be sustainable, it is necessary to increase the role of the community which was originally only a subject to become a key player through community empowerment activities. Provincial and District Governments as well as Universities need to improve from Crowd to Context Setters who have a big influence in policy making. It is necessary to form a Coordination Team for Mangrove Forest Management Strategy at the provincial and district levels to synergize policies and programs for managing mangrove ecosystems. Empowerment activities need to be carried out intensively to encourage a change in the role of mangrove management.

Abstract

AbstractLaw No. 26 Year 2007 on Spatial Planning (UUPR) mandated that all levels of government administration, ranging from the national, provincial, district/ city are obligated to prepare Spatial Plan (RTR). Until 2012, Central Kalimantan is one of the provinces which have not completed its Spatial Plan; one of the reasons was the lack of spatial integration of forestry spatial planning and provincial spatial planning of Central Kalimantan. The absence of spatial integration of forestry and provincial spatial planning of Central Kalimantan has the implication in triggering conflicts of land use. Forest areas were converted into oil palm plantations without any official procedures. There are 282 units of oil palm companies, occupying 3.9 millions hectares of forest area, with non-procedural procedures to convert forest area into oil palm plantation. To resolve this problem, the Government has revised the regulation of forest conversion by issuing PP No. 60/2012, provides opportunities for oil palm plantations, which under the Law of Forestry located in forest area but based on RTRWP of Central Kalimantan lies on APL or cultivation area, given the opportunity to re-apply the permit/license.

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem in Pangarengan Village, Cirebon District, provides benefits for environmental services, including as carbon sinks and stores. In estimating the carbon storage of mangrove forests, in general, allometric equations are used. Unfortunately, the allometric equations currently available are still composed of the stages of growth of saplings, poles, and trees. Thus, the purpose of this study was to develop an allometric model for seedlings in mangrove forests. The research was conducted in June 2021 in the mangrove forest of Pangarengan Village, Cirebon District. The equipment that used in the study were calipers, measuring tape, digital scales, and crop shears. Research materials were mangrove seedlings of Rhizophora mucronata, Avicennia marina, and Sonneratia caseolaris. The best allometric model in estimating dried weight biomass with base diameter predictor is Y = 35,013 Dp1,860 (R2adj = 0,873; SEE = 0,472) using tip diameter predictor is Y = 249.573 Du2,276 (R2adj = 0,524; SEE = 0,710). While the allometrics for estimating the carbon content of seedlings were Y = 5,835 Dp1,804 (R2adj = 0,831; SEE = 0,528) and Y = 35,750 Du2,107 (R2adj = 0,607; SEE = 0,805). Thus, the power allometric model with base diameter predictor was quite good in estimating dried weight biomass and seedling carbon content in the mangrove forest of Pangarengan Village.
