Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Overweight and obesity are conditions characterized by excess body weight, which increase the risk of chronic diseases. One of the main contributing factors is dietary habits. A popular intervention for weight loss is the Intermittent Fasting (IF) diet, particularly the 5:2 and 16:8 methods. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of the 5:2 and 16:8 IF methods in reducing body weight among overweight and obese individuals. Methods: This research employed a pre and post test design involving 50 respondents, divided into two groups, and subjected to a 6-week intervention. Data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test (for IF 5:2), the Wilcoxon Test (for IF 16:8), and the Mann-Whitney Test for comparison between the two groups. Results: The results showed that the IF 5:2 group experienced an average weight loss of 3.38% (p < 0.001), while the IF 16:8 group had a weight loss of 2.28% (p = 0.000). The comparison between the two groups yielded a p-value of 0.081. Conclusion: Both IF methods, 5:2 and 16:8, are effective in significantly reducing body weight. Although the 5:2 method resulted in a greater weight loss, the difference between the two methods was not statistically significant.

Abstract

Overweight and obesity is a condition in which there is an imbalance between the entry and exit of energy for a long time. Intermittent Fasting is one of the dietary interventions that can affect body composition such as body fat percentage and thick folds of fat under the skin. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Intermittent Fasting type 5:2 on body fat percentage and thick folds of fat under the skin in individuals with overweight and obesity. This study is an experimental study using pretest and posttest group design. The number of samples was 50 people with a consecutive sampling method. The statistical test used was the paired t-test. The results showed that intermittent fasting had a significant effect on body fat percentage (p<0.001), thick folds of fat under the skin of the biceps (p=0.009), and triceps (p<0.001), while the supra iliac and subscapular parts decreased but statistically insignificant (p=0.093) and (p=0.217).

Abstract

Background: Proper complementary feeding is crucial for optimal child growth and development. However, many mothers lack knowledge about the correct preparation, timing, and nutritional composition of complementary feeding, increasing the risk of malnutrition and stunting in toddlers. This community service program aimed to enhance maternal knowledge on complementary feeding and conduct growth and development screenings for toddlers. Method: The program was conducted at Olak Kemang Health Center and involved 15 mothers and their children. The intervention included hands-on training led by nutrition experts on the proper preparation and nutritional composition of complementary feeding. Additionally, toddlers underwent growth and development assessments using anthropometric measurements and the Pre-Screening Questionnaire for Development (KPSP). Result: The majority of toddlers (73.33%) had normal nutritional status, while 13.33% were underweight and 13.33% were overweight. Growth and development screening showed that 93.3% of toddlers demonstrated normal development, whereas 6.67% had developmental delays. The training significantly improved mothers' knowledge of complementary feeding preparation. Conclusion: Regular educational programs are essential to improve maternal knowledge on complementary feeding and enhance early childhood growth monitoring. These efforts can help reduce the risk of malnutrition and stunting among toddlers.

Abstract

In the era of globalization and rapid technological advancement, the healthcare sector in Indonesia faces various challenges, including the need for innovation and more effective services. Medical students possess significant potential to contribute to creating relevant solutions for public health issues. However, many of them lack adequate entrepreneurial skills. Conventional teaching methods often fall short in providing students with the practical skills necessary. Therefore, the implementation of Project-based Learning (PjBL) in entrepreneurship courses becomes essential. Through PjBL, students not only learn theory but also engage directly in projects related to current health issues. This allows them to develop practical skills such as market research and business planning. The program involved 119 first-semester medical students, beginning with a Pre-Test to assess their initial knowledge about Community Service, followed by presentation sessions and a Post-Test to evaluate their understanding. Results showed that 60% of students were interested in entrepreneurship within the healthcare sector; 52.5% recognized its importance; however, 70% still lacked an understanding of business concepts in healthcare. A significant increase was observed after the Post-Test was conducted. The application of PjBL needs to be conducted continuously to further enhance students' knowledge about entrepreneurship. Abstract

ABSTRACT Based on a micronutrient survey in 12 provinces in Indonesia, it is known that children aged 6 to 11 months consume lower nutrients than other age groups. Toddlers who do not receive complementary feeding have a 7.4-fold risk of causing stunting in children. This community service aims to increase mothers' knowledge in making the correct complementary feeding, how to give it, when to provide it, and screening the nutritional status of toddlers. Community service activities were conducted at the Olak Kemang Health Center, attended by 15 mothers and children. Based on community service, it was found that most of them were toddlers aged 30 to 36 months (60%), had the highest anthropometric status of good nutrition (standard), namely 73.33%, and the assessment of child development using the Pre-Screening Questionnaire for Development found that 93.3% of toddlers had normal development. Routine activities are needed to increase the knowledge of mothers of toddlers regarding complementary feeding and screening the growth and development of toddlers to prevent stunting. Abstract
