Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the skill of the second grade students of SMAN 3 Rambah Hilir of in writing narrative text. The sample of this research were second grade students of SMAN 3 Rambah Hilir Kabupaten Rokan Hulu. The class consists, of 21 students; the researcher used total sampling technique to determine the sample research. The research was descriptive qualitative .The purpose of this research was to described the situation objectively. This research was done with some steps. They were collecting the data, analyzing the data, making conclusions, and reporting result. The result of research showed that the skill of second grade students of SMAN 3 Rambah Hilir in Poor category was 0%, in good category was47, 61%. In excellent category were 19, 04 %. Then, in fair category was 28,57%, in very poor category was 4,76%. The average score was 74, 19 %. So, it can be concluded that the students writing skill in narrative text at second grade of SMAN 3 Rambah Hilir was good.

Abstract

This research is conducted to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at fifth grade of Elementary school 016 Rambah Samotrought Cartoon movie. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) which conducted to solve the students’ problem in Vocabulary Mastery. This research conducted in two cycles, in every cycle consist of plan, action, observation and reflection. The data were gathered through qualitative and quantitative data. The finding of this research indicated that the implementation of cartoon movie was successful since there an improvement ofstudents vocabulary mastery. Based on the finding mentioned, the researcher suggests that English teacher could implement cartoon movie media in teaching English vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

Essay is the most essential part in writing critical essay. It is one of the subjects that learned by English students. CIRC is a method to improve students’ writing ability. Cooperative integrated reading composition (CIRC) was implemented on students’ writing skill through quasi experimental research; post-test only group design. Sample of the research was thirty nine students. Writing test was used to collect the data and analyzed by using independent t-test. The finding was students who were taught by cooperative integrated reading composition (CIRC) had better scores of writing critical essay than those who were taught by small group discussion. It meant that CIRC give an effect toward students to improve their writing skill.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menjelaskan dan menyimpulkan bahwa eksistensi pengajaran membaca teks naratif bagi siswa SMA dengan menggunakan strategi yangbervariasi telah menyentuh area substantif. Paired Annotation dan One Tray Two Stray, dua strategi pembelajaraan kooperatif telah merekonstruksi pengajaran individual yang selama ini diaplikasikan di sekolah-sekolah. Menurut beberapaahli, belajar secara berpasangan (Paired Annotation) dan berkelompok (One StayTwo Stray) juga menawarkan outcome yang berbeda ditilik dari kemampuan awalyang dimiliki siswa.

Abstract

Writing critical essay can be simple and complicated in the same time. Critical essay is more than presenting and summarizing. It is an analitycal work.Dealing with statement above, a descriptive research is conducted in University of Pasir Pengaraian. The aims of this research are (1) to find out students’ ability in writing critical essay and (2) to explore factors affecting students’ writing critical essay skill. After analyzing the data quantitatively and qualitatively, it is found that the students’ ability in writing critical essay is 57,63 while factors affecting their writing skill are motivation, types, length and content of texts.

Abstract

This study extends the knowledge garnered with civil engineering populations by determining the reading comprehension strategies most important to students’ success on adult literacy outcome measures and aligning them with previously researched interventions. Concept Mapping should benefit from strategies that teach looking for clues in or generating questions about a text. A pre-experimental design is used. The result showed that post-test is higher than pre-test. It means that there is an improvement of students’ reading comprehension achievement who are taught byConcept Mapping Strategy.

Abstract

This paper attempts to provide insight views in English Language Teaching practices in Thailand. Given the understanding of educational system, later it is engaging a brief overview of challenge in English Language Teaching. This paper is to explore teachers’ understanding of the students-centered approach and their actual classroom practices in Thai schools. It is also grounded concepts and practices of ICT. This paper may adopt some practices or features in Thailand context that might be implemented in Indonesia where these two countries; Indonesian and Thailand share similarity in educational system.

Abstract

Different instruction is needed to meet the different needs of learners in a given classroom. The range of instructional need within one classroom is large. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of strategy instruction on 26 students in English Study, Program at University of Pasir Pengaraian. Students were assigned to be an independent learner. Self regulation strategies were required. The instruments were observation, interview, and test. The result indicated that students were more creative in providing passive voice sentences. They also performed their understanding on passive voice in writing subjects.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aimed at examining the types and the function of codes switching found in Indonesian Modern Literature Syafrina Siregar‟s novel „Dengan Hati‟. A review of related literature in code switching were provided for the analysis of the data. The data were taken from the conversation among the characters in this novel. This study is categorized as descriptive qualitative with content analysis. The finding showed that intersentential are dominantly used. While the function of code switching referred to cultural identity.

Abstract

The use of cooperative learning in classroom activities is not a new thing. The current study investigates the strength and weaknesses of dynamic and static group formation. 33 students of English Study Program participated in the study. The study mainly focused on students’ perception regarding the group formation during classroom activities. By applying open- ended interview, students’ perception were recorded about possible benefit and disadvantages related to group formation. Overall, this study provides evidence both dynamic and static group formation can facilitate learning.
