Data analysis in this study utilized the Partial Least Squares (PLS) modeling approach. The results showed that 1) Political risk did not significantly influence FDI for Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam, but did influence for Thailand and the Philippines. 2) Financial risk reflected by macroeconomic conditions significantly influenced Foreign Direct Investment for Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam. 3) The EODB rank moderated the influence of political risk on Foreign Direct Investment for Thailand but did not moderate for Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. 4) The EODB rating did not moderate the effect of financial risk on Foreign Direct Investment for all the studied countries. Finally, 5) the results of ranking the five studied countries based on country risk level from lowest to highest showed that Malaysia was first, followed by Thailand in second place, then the Philippines in third place and Vietnam in fourth, and the last was Indonesia in fifth (last) place. This means that Indonesia has the highest country risk value compared to the other ASEAN countries that became the objects of this research.

Abstract

This paper aims to identify the factors that affect the performance of shariah mutual funds. This study uses SEM to test the factors that hypothetically influence mutual fund performance, namely mutual fund manager skills, characteristics, and analyst coverage. This study uses a sample of 45 mutual funds registered with the OJK [financial services authority] for at least three years: equity funds, fixed-income funds, and mixed funds. The results indicate that fund manager skills negatively influence mutual fund performance but not significantly. In addition, the characteristics positively affect the mutual fund performance but are insignificant. Last, analyst coverage is positively influencing the mutual fund performance significantly. The results provide information that would benefit the investors in predicting the performance of shariah mutual funds and the fund managers to improve the performance of their managed funds. Further research will ascertain the inability of market-timing skills and asset allocation strategies to improve mutual fund performance.

Abstract

This study was conducted using the job demand-resource model to examine the effects of job demand, job burnout, and the role of social support as a measure of job resources in enhancing the influence of job demand on employee performance. Through 131 responses from the questionnaire survey, this study uses the responses obtained from a state-owned banking agency in Malang, Indonesia. Data analysis was performed using partial least square (PLS) with the WarpPLS.7.0 program and Sobel Test to verify the relationship between variables. The results of this study do not totally support the hypothesis since employee performance can be directly influenced by the degree of job demand that employees experience but not by the degree of job burnout that banking employees experience. As opposed to that, a high job demand also has a direct impact on an employee's job burnout. Another significant finding from this research is that social support has a role in enhancing the influence of job demands on employee performance, rather than mediating it. This research provides enlightenment for the banking industry regarding the importance of paying attention to employees' social support. High job demand causes a decrease in employee performance; with good social support, employees will be helped meet the job demand so that it does not impact the performance they are building. It is challenging to lessen how much job demand influences employee burnout. Banking institutions can work to provide social support while also attempting to alter employees' perceptions of their jobs' obligations. In order to successfully prevent job burnout syndrome in employees and reduce negative effects brought on by job pressures, banking leaders should provide assistance and demonstrate excellent leadership. This strategy ought to considerably lessen job burnout and directly result in improved performance.

Abstract

Background: Several studies have been conducted on the effects of job demands, job resources, work-life balance, and supervisor-resident relationships on burnout syndrome in cardiology residents globally, but no such study has been conducted in Indonesia. Objectives: To investigate the impact of job demands, job resources, work-life balance, and supervisor-resident relationship quality on burnout syndrome among cardiology residents in Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 42 cardiology residents from 10 Indonesian universities from March to July 2024, with data collected online using a validated questionnaire. Results: Our results indicated that there was no significant difference between the burnout and non-burnout groups regarding job demand variables such as emotional demand, mental demand, and work overload (p > 0.05). Similarly, job resources, including work independence, supervisor support, colleague support, schedule flexibility, and feedback, were not significantly associated with the risk of burnout (p > 0.05). Additionally, work-life balance factors such as work time, family time, break time, and supervisor-resident relationships showed no significant association with burnout among residents. Conclusion: The study indicates that job demands, resources, work-life balance, and supervisor-resident relationship quality do not significantly impact burnout in cardiology residents. Other factors may contribute to burnout, and further research is needed to identify these factors to improve prevention efforts.

Abstract

This study explores the indirect association connecting good corporate governance dimensions and firm performance, mediated through capital structure. This study utilized a sample of 67 manufacturing companies registered on the Indonesian Stock Exchange from 2014 to 2017. The data was also handled using the Eviews 10.0 version. The findings show that board of director size, board independence, managerial ownership, and ownership concentration showed no impact on the capital structure. Board size, board independence, and ownership concentration affected the financial performance directly. However, the board's independence, size, and ownership concentration failed to indirectly influence the financial performance. Further, the managerial ownership exhibited no meaningful influence on the financial performance, either directly or indirectly. The findings support that the dimensions of Good Corporate Governance impact firm performance, particularly when interacting with capital structure. The implications are valuable for policymakers and corporate leaders, as they highlight that good governance practices alone may not be sufficient; optimal capital structure strategies must also be incorporated. The findings provide new insights into corporate governance policy by demonstrating its role beyond traditional monitoring, suggesting that governance practices can influence performance when combined with effective capital management strategies. Therefore, the findings enrich the academic discourse by presenting a more thorough perspective on how the corporate governance dimensions relate to capital structure to enhance financial performance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of intellectual capital on firm value with profitability as a mediating variable. The focus is on both direct and indirect effects between these variables. The research method employed is explanatory research with a quantitative approach, using path analysis and Sobel test to examine the hypotheses. The sample consists of 100 observations selected through purposive sampling based on specific criteria during the period from 2019 to 2023. The analysis results indicate that intellectual capital has a significant direct effect on firm value. However, no direct effect was found between intellectual capital and profitability, nor between profitability and firm value. Therefore, profitability does not mediate the relationship between intellectual capital and firm value. These findings suggest that the role of intellectual capital in enhancing firm value is not dependent on profitability performance but can have a direct impact through other strategic elements embedded in intellectual assets
